Journal of the Creatures and Monsters of Elanthia
Since coming to the Crossing I have had the opportunity to hunt or confront many of the creatures and monsters that inhabit the land.
Most of my experiences so far have been within the bounds of Zoluren, but I have begun to branch out more as my skills grow.
I have decided to keep my notes on the creatures I have faces, as well as those I have researched, within this journal as a reference tool for the future. It will also aid in planning for potential hunts or encounters later on.
This journal is organized into two primary sections. The first is my personal hunting log complete with short notes. These are the creatures and monsters I have faced and are in the order (mostly) that I encountered them.
The second section of the journal are collections of creatures I have researched by specific criteria. These notes are for ease of future research and reference as my horizons broaden.

Hunting Log
Creature | Min Skill | Skill Cap | Skinnable | Boxes | Undead | Found on map | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Rat | 0 | 30 | true | false | false | RanikMap1f, RanikMap1h, RanikMap7a, RanikMap30, RanikMap67, RanikMap90, RanikMap150 | Everyone starts here. You can easily train on these until you're an Able Novice. They do swarm which can be deadly if your are young and heavily hindered by armor. |
Forager goblin | 12 | 34 | true | true | false | RanikMap4 | Forage, Field and Scavenger goblins are all a good way to practice your martial skills along with skinning and locksmithing. |
Field goblin | 17 | 42 | true | true | false | RanikMap3, RanikMap4 | These goblins, like the Foragers, carry an assortment of poor quality armor and weapons. Individually they aren't challenging, but for a novice hunter they could be very dangerous in groups. |
Scavenger goblin | 18 | 36 | true | true | false | RanikMap4 | These goblins are slightly more challenging than the other goblins, but not terribly so. |
Goblin shaman | 20 | 50 | false | true | false | RanikMap4, RanikMap32 | Goblin shaman are a step up from their Forage, Field and Scavenger kin. You'll want to make sure you're comfortable with the others before trying these. You can't skin them though so you're just looking for treasure and boxes here. |
Grass eel | 25 | 50 | true | false | false | RanikMap4, RanikMap32, RanikMap71 | Grass eels tend to swarm and as such are an excellent way to train your overall defensive skills. |
Ghoul | 26 | 44 | true | true | true | RanikMap7b, RanikMap13 | And easy first step into the practice of hunting the Undead. Be careful, they can inflict disease with their strikes. You may also need a light source depending on how far you venture in their territory. |
Cougar | 30 | 49 | true | false | false | RanikMap3, RanikMap5, RanikMap7a, RanikMap41, RanikMap60, RanikMap148 | Found in the vinyards with Wood Trolls, Grendels (at night), and Meadow rams. Quick and agile, these beasts can hurt if you're not prepared for them. |
Wood Troll | 36 | 53 | false | true | false | RanikMap3, RanikMap7a, RanikMap41 | Not at all easy to injure at first and are very hardy. |
Small grendel | 35 | 50 | true | true | true | RanikMap7a | Found in the vinyards with Cougars, Wood Trolls, and Meadow rams. |
Faenrae reaver | 35 | 52 | true | true | true | RanikMap12 | Found with Wind hounds. Be careful as the Wind hounds swarm and can inflict a lot of damage fast. |
Wind hound | 35 | 73 | false | false | false | RanikMap12 | Found with Faenrae revers. Be careful, these hounds swarm and can inflict a lot of damage fast. |
Meadow ram | 45 | 70 | true | false | false | RanikMap32 | Found in the vinyards with Cougars, Wood Trolls and Grendels (at night). These rams can pack a hefty punch when they ram into you and are more agile than you may think. |
Rock Troll | 60 | 73 | true | true | false | RanikMap9a, RanikMap68 | Rock trolls have a lot of stamina so they don't die easily. They also have a spell that can knock you down if you don't have the wherewithal to remain steady. |
Suw bizar | 70 | 90 | true | false | false | RanikMap150 | These creatures really are bizarre, but they're an excellent test of skill. They can cast an Ethereal Shield and carry various weapons. They also tend to swarm so beware. |
Skeletal kobold headhunter | 85 | 110 | true | true | true | RanikMap64c | These undead menaces carry spears which they will hurl at you. They have no skin, but you can still acquire parts. |
Skeletal kobold savage | 85 | 110 | true | true | true | RanikMap64c | Like the headhunters, savages have no skin, but you can still acquire parts. |
Moss mey | 90 | 135 | true | true | false | RanikMap61a, RanikMap98 | You must have blessed weapons to strike these creatures. Beware their kiss as it can inflict serious damage. |
Blue-belly crocodile | 100 | 140 | true | false | false | RanikMap14, RanikMap35a | The hardest challenge of the crocodiles is finding your way out of the marsh after slaughtering them. |
Giant thicket viper | Beware the viper's venom! It is highly recommended you have an Empath with you, or well-above minimum defenses before attempting to hunt these. The poison can cause a great deal of internal damage, and/or stun you for a decent period of time. If you are stunned, the likelihood of dying before you can recover is very high. | ||||||
River sprite | 140 | 190 | false | true | false | RanikMap60b | These devilish little creatures are spell casters, and they love to hide and ambush their prey. |
Quartz gargoyle | 135 | 190 | true | true | false | RanikMap150 | These constructs are pure brute force, but they use it effectively. The confined spaces reduce engagement times and make escaping harder for the unwary. Their skins are also harder to obtain perfect examples of than their lesser brethren north of Crossing. |
Twisted dryad | 175 | 220 | false | true | false | RanikMap60c | Do not underestimate these creatures. They carry spindly short swords and are skilled at wielding them. |
Fendryad | These creatures can be exceptionally dangerous in groups. They fight and cast at ranges so you must be prepared to negate, block or dodge their magic. Swamp Trolls often wander this area as well and don't hesitate to join the Fendryads in attacking. | ||||||
Blue-dappled Prereni | 180 | 250 | true | false | false | RanikMap66 | These creatures tend to attack as a herd. |
Lanky Grey Lach | 210 | 316 | true | true | true | RanikMap64d | These undead creatures should not be engaged lightly. They hit very hard. They employ stealth to sneak up on their victims. |
Sinuous Ice Adder | 200 | 300 | true | false | true | RanikMap138, RanikMap139, RanikMap140 | These frozen beasts will exhale a cloud of frozen vapor that burns the throat and lungs due to the cold. Make sure you have some means of protecting yourself or you may find yourself choking to death. |
Elder Blue-dappled Prereni | 250 | 300 | true | false | false | RanikMap66 | These small deer are hyper agressive and roam in herds. |
Zombie Nomad | 260 | 410 | false | true | true | RanikMap46a | These zombies are nothing to scoff at, but are not the most dangerous undead one can face. The desert is more of a danger. |
Research Notes
The following sections are collections of creatures by specific criteria.
Depending on hunting goals or acquisition needs these may be helpful to choose what to hunt or what to avoid.
Skinnable creatures with boxes | All
As a Cleric, Rhoran hunts a mix of living and undead/cursed creatures with the occasional construct thrown in.
His primary two criteria for hunting targets are that they are skinnable to help his training as an Outfitter, and that they carry treasure chests, boxes, etc. that can be picked and disarmed.
The list below shows the creatures and monsters that fit these requirements.
Skinnable creatures with boxes | Living & Construct only
If you prefer to avoid the undead, however, Rhoran has edited his list for your use.
Skinnable Creatures | Corporeal Undead only
Sometimes, as a Cleric, you need the skin or pelt of an undead or evil creature. Rhoran has provided the list below to help you find what you need.
Non-skinnable creatures with boxes | All
Finding creatures and monsters to skin is fairly easy, but finding treasure boxes... not so much.
If you need to work on your locksmithing skills here's another version of Rhoran's list narrowed to remove skinnable creatures, and just list those known to drop a box - living or dead.
Non-skinnable creatures with boxes | Living & Constructs only
Again, if you prefer to avoid the undead, here is a version of the list above edited to show only the living or constructs.
Undead | All
Just need to smite some Undead and don't really care if they're corporeal or not? Rhoran has a list for that too.
