Crime in Elanthia is regulated by the justice systems of the various provinces and local villages. The JUSTICE verb will tell you if the area has justice enforced or if it is a lawless area. If you are wanted guards will, in time, capture you as you pass. If you wish to surrender yourself to clear charges against you, you may do so with the SURRENDER command. The RECALL WARRANT command can be used to recall any outstanding criminal warrants you have.

Justice Type Messaging Notes
Standard Justice After assessing the area, you think local law enforcement keeps an eye on what's going on here. Also referred to as "City Justice".
Clan Justice After assessing the area, you believe there is some kind of unusual law enforcement in this area.
Dirge Justice After assessing the area, you believe there is some kind of unusual law enforcement in this area.
Hara'jaal Justice You're fairly certain this area is lawless and unsafe.
Non Justice Area You're fairly certain this area is lawless and unsafe.

The Thief Guild and Trader Guild also employ their own form of justice.

Old Charges that may not be used in the current justice system:

  • Assault
  • trafficking guild secrets

Criminal Fines and Debt

  • The WEALTH command will show you outstanding debts owed to provincial governments.
  • The PAY command will show you which cities have debt collection offices in the province you're currently in.

Upon arrest, your worn inventory is seized by the town guard. After a period of time spent incarcerated in the jail, you'll face a judge and be asked to PLEAD INNOCENT/GUILTY to the crime you've been charged with. After judgment, you must settle any and all debts to the arresting province before claiming your property (collected in a sack at the local guard house). Debt collection office (to pay your debt) and guard house (to retrieve your property) locations are listed in the table below.

You may need to TAP <ORDINAL> SACK in the guard house to find your sack of items among other sacks.
