Armor Template

The new protection, absorption, and hindrance ranges for body armor are now live. (Shield protection is still on a separate scale, which has not changed.) I recommend changing the armor template so that it accepts new and old scales (but flags old scales as outdated), which is similar to the current Weapon template. --Isharon 19:37, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Weapon Forging Templates

What kind of syntax would you suggest for weapon templates? Multiple weapon types use the same template, and it would make sense to link them all together and not make them dependent on the name. Let me know what you think works best so I can start flowing in data. —TEVESHSZAT 19:04, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

...I'm going to have to think about that. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 19:10, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Alrighty. Just let me know whatever system you prefer. I was thinking something like Weapon:Forged_TYPE_PRIMARYDAMAGE_SUITED_VOLUME could possibly work. So, for example, the template used by the Briquet/Dagger/Misericorde would be Weapon:Forged_le_puncture_balance_2. There might be some times we'd have to do something like an _(1) or _(2) for some templates, but I don't think it would be too terrible. —TEVESHSZAT 21:05, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Okay, set it up like this Weapon:Forged <template>
The template can be your choice of whichever of them you like, but also mention in the article it covers the other templates, and set up redirects. We'll try that for now. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:11, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Template:ItemProperties

I would like item pages to say, "This item's type is unknown" when the type field is blank. --Isharon 22:05, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

While in theory I could add it, it would just about double the size of the template, and double the amount of work it would take with each update. So.... no. :P -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:21, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Forum Post Properties

For some reason, when I tag a post as being about "PvP," it doesn't list that under the "Facts about" section. However, if I go to the PvP article, the post is archived there. --Isharon 19:13, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

That is bizarre. And I can't figure out why. sigh -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 07:41, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

New Forum Posts

Now that the Play.net forum has been moved, what do you want to do with the Forum field? Previously, we placed the board number after the category and topic, but the forum no longer uses numbers. Should we just omit the numbers from now on (for example, Discussions with DragonRealms Staff and Players \ Game Master and Official Announcements? --Isharon 18:56, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Also, the date format on new posts is a bit different. There are now zeroes before single-digit times (for example, "06/01/2011 05:42 PM CDT"). ----Isharon 19:09, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
Eh, omit the forum folder numbers and just keep the times as the forum displays. Easier to copy and paste that way. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 23:13, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
It looks like the forum post time no longer displays the second, so it is theoretically possible (though unlikely in practice) for two different posts to have the exact same page name. --Isharon 06:48, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Mining

Two things: could you remove my BOT status? I haven't really had the chance to move much DFP stuff recently, been busy for a while. Also, what is spoiler-ish about the mining section? Would it be possible to just move the spoilers to a secondary article? --Leito 01:38, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Sure.
It's spoiler-ish, because I put the page up right when mining came out. It was a warning to people who wanted to PAFO. I'll remove it in a couple more days. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 01:44, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Guildfest 401

Would you mind adding Guildfest 401 to the "Improvement Drive" section of the home page? Thanks!----Isharon 08:54, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

The current drive section lists "Guildfest 401" in May 2010. This should be changed to May 2011. ----Isharon 17:30, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Template:ItemProperties

When you select "writing" as the item type, nothing appears in the completed item. I think it should say something like "This item is a writing implement or something that can be written on." --Isharon 05:59, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Turns out that's cause I hadn't added support for it. Huh, I wonder why. Anyways, fixed. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 09:21, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Any way you could add something for "anatomy chart?" It's a listed property, but the completed item doesn't say what it is if you use it. See, e.g., Item:Silverfish anatomy chart. --Isharon 06:38, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
I could, but at this point, I'd actually be inclined to remove that option. It doesn't seem like they're variable enough in form to need to have their own tag. In fact, I suspect I might have removed it from the template and forgot to remove it from the form and property. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 07:07, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

I would like the item pages to say when an item cannot be worn. Thanks! (wearloc=-) ----Isharon 23:58, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Done. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:25, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Post Form

I have no idea why, but every time I try to create or edit a post with the form, I get the following error: --Isharon 18:43, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/khodges/public_html/w/extensions/SemanticForms/includes/SF_FormPrinter.inc on line 291

Fixed. Oops. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 04:07, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Item Template: Read

It would be nice if there were a dedicated field for item reads. --Isharon 00:53, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

The default (-) value would be There is nothing there to read. --Isharon 00:53, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
It could be done, but that seems like it might just be another step to template overload. Do you really see a huge need for it? -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 04:14, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
It would just make it easier to generate forms (especially by script). --Isharon 04:39, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Mmmmmm, lemmie see. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 04:41, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
(The main issue with my Elanthipedia Items script is that the look ends at the end of the line, and reads are on a separate line. I can't capture that with one regular expression.) --Isharon 04:50, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Ampersands in Post Page Names

How should we handle post titles that contain the ampersand (&)? It seems to be cutting off everything after the ampersand. For example, Post:Crossbows & Tinkering - 4/30/2011 - 8:32:54. (See how it redirects from Post:Crossbows.) --Isharon 22:46, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

It has to do with the & being used as a control character by the wiki in addresses. If necessary, just replace it with "and." -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:00, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Shield Template Bug

The shield form is missing at least one value (incredible). Here is the shield appraisal scale:

  1. very poor
  2. poor
  3. rather low
  4. low
  5. fair
  6. better than fair
  7. moderate
  8. moderately good
  9. good
  10. very good
  11. high
  12. very high
  13. great
  14. very great
  15. impressive
  16. very impressive
  17. tremendous
  18. incredible
  19. god-like

--Isharon 22:28, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Fixed. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:51, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
I see the option in the shield form, but on the finished shield page, it shows up as "Unknown protection." --Isharon 01:18, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Okay, now it's fixed. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 07:41, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Now "incredible" is showing up as "Tremendous (10/11) protection." (See above item.) --Isharon 08:07, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
No it doesn't. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 08:19, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
It's showing up as incredible now, but is there a reason that the Paladin-only values aren't considered part of the scale? Incredible should be 18/19, not 10/11. --Isharon 18:59, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Because the vast majority of shields are not paladin appraised, and I want them to still be as accurate as possible when attempting comparisons. For example, if you tried to find all shields better or equal to a paladin level, it would miss many of the shields that were actually that, but not listed as such. Thus, the Paladin more specific appraisals are the same rank as the value a normal person (no, Paladin's aren't normal) would appraise it at. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:41, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Reference Tag Bug?

When I use the {{RefAl}} tag, something is wrong with the formatting. The "Related Forum Posts" and "Also See" sections are not recognized as headers. --Isharon 18:10, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

I know, and I've been trying to figure out why. Gimmie a bit. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:10, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Fixed. I know what I had to do to fix it, but I don't know why it had to be done. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 10:00, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Item Template: Fest Items

Does the item template still support the fest= tag, and should we be filling that out? It's not in the form when you click "create/edit with form." --Isharon 22:57, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Nope, it's superceded by the rare= tag. Thought, it technically will work, since I didn't want to have to track down the ones I'd tagged fest. I also, more or less meant it as an advanced option... though that doesn't seem so smart now that I think about it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 09:20, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
If you still want us to flag things as rare (fest, auction, etc.), can you add a rare field to the "create/edit with form" option to the weapon, shield, armor, and item pages? (This field is useful if you're using the query pages.) I think that the main reason that it hasn't been added to more items is that people don't know that the information is requested. --Isharon 18:17, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Rareness is automatically populated for festival store weapons as long as the source store is set as a festival store. That field is reserved for odd source equipment, such as auctions or quest which the system doesn't understand. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:10, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Is rare automatically set to no for items whose source is set to a permanent shop? --Isharon 22:45, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
It SHOULD be, but I'm not sure if it is. I don't remember whether I figured out an easy way to do it. I'll check when I have a moment. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:49, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Bug With Brawling Template

When the puncture/slice/impact type variable is set to No, the page looks like the puncture/slice/impact damage info is missing.

For example: Weapon:Gold elbow spikes

Appraisal:

You are certain that it could do:
no puncture damage increase
quite a bit of slice damage
quite a bit of impact damage

Form Values:

|puncture=none
|puncturetype=Yes
|slice=quite a bit
|slicetype=No
|impact=quite a bit
|impacttype=No

Page says:

Puncture: none

Slice: Unknown

Impact: Unknown

The "Facts about" item box at the bottom is also missing damage stats. --Isharon 00:36, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Yea I know. The problem is that I can't set up the template till I have information on how they relate. Is "quite a bit" better or worse than "some?" -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:47, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
I've fixed it so it will display, but without more information on how brawling weapons compare, I can't do much more. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 01:57, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Is there any way that the display could add (increase) when "the damage is the special brawling increase type"? For example:

Puncture: none (increase)

Slice: quite a bit

Impact: quite a bit

--Isharon 15:32, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Leading Articles (Items)

Currently, a, an, and some are leading articles that are not included in page names or item names. However, other potential articles are not treated consistently. For example, in some items, "a pair of" and "a set of" are treated as leading articles, but in others they are not.

Do you have a full list of leading articles that should be excluded from page names? --Isharon 17:35, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

To be honest, I have no idea why people have decided to leave out the "pair of" etc, but I've been too lazy to do anything about it. On one hand, it is part of the item, but on the other hand, it doesn't add much to the info.
What's your opinion? -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 19:11, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Ignoring the amount of work that it would require to make all of these items consistent, I would only count a, an, and some as leading articles. Phrases like "a pair of" are not articles (grammatically speaking); they're quantities. Unless we exclude all "leading quantities" from page names, we'd have to decide which to include and which to exclude, and that would breed inconsistency.
It seems that more of the items that I've looked at omit "pair of" and "set of" than include those terms, so it would be more work to add those terms than remove them. Another issue is that many of the store pages also omit these articles, so it may not be immediately obvious which pages need to be edited. --Isharon 20:27, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
I agree, include them from now on, and I'll work on updating the old ones where possible. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 20:28, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Most of that would be from me, based of this post. Category talk:Items#Pairs and Sets?. If memory serves, it was a decision to the achieve the same effect as the List field.-Glimmereyes 21:40, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Just an FYI, the FAVICON.ICO for elanthipedia doesn't appear to be working in any browser. (Chrome, FF, IE). Possibly missing.

... I don't actually know what that means. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 03:57, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
It's the icon that appears in the browser for the page/bookmarks for example, the greyish sphere for play.net page, the facebook "f" icon, etc. It looks like Elanthipedia's is missing (it should be at http://elanthipedia.com/favicon.ico according to the source, but it doesn't appear to be there.) Crafts Items

Hi Caraamon,

Do we want to set up item pages for basic, mastercraft versions of forged items, based on a standard metal? (thinking medium carbon steel is probably easiest)

--Hithrael 03:47, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

That sounds fine, but let me think of how to do it properly. Using Template:Weapon would mess a number of things up. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 05:22, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Tab titles

Now that I look at it, the whole URL is very un-elanthipedia like. Is this just something weird or what? Healfdene Rokk 02:36, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

What's wierd about the tab?
The URL is just odd because the query stuff is an add on. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 07:28, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Sortable Lists

I want to move most of the information from my Ship and Travel site to Elanthipedia and would like to create a sortable table of Ships and their types and owners. As I recall, somebody has to make a special code to create a sortable table. Here's the table I want to make sortable: http://www.kraelyst.com/travel/roster.html. Can you help? - Kraelyst

That would be great, Kraelyst! If it's just a regular sortable table, you can see an example of the wiki code here. I usually make mine in Excel and export them to a text file. --Isharon 16:05, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Template Suggestions

Creature Template

Hey Caraamon, any chance of adding box ranges to creature templates? They would be easier to update if they were listed on the creature page. Would be nice to use them as a variable that would show up in the Box Range lists as well. --Leito 00:13, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

It's a possibility. Lemmie think about how to best do it. Remind me again if I don't get to it this week. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:29, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Item Template

I think that the item template should have a field that asks whether the item hides any features or items (f=features, i=items, b=both, n=neither). --Isharon 21:35, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Post Template

I think it would be a good idea to modify the post template so that it automatically includes a link to the forum post. I realize that old posts often disappear, but while they're online, it would be useful to have a link to the original. The post template already contains the information that you need (category, topic, and post number).

The format for a forum link is:

https://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=20&category=#&topic=#&message=#

--Isharon 19:45, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
It can't currently do that since it currently cannot "process" the folder info. Those would have to be stored in separate fields... assuming there isn't anything odd about trying to format external links. It's possible, but would take a lot of extra work both with the template AND with transferring posts. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 09:28, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Will there ever be a post query? If so, separating the folders into separate fields might be worthwhile. --Isharon 02:04, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Considering that I often find info in folders that have NOTHING to do with it, I'm not really sure it would be. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 05:59, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
That's true, but sometimes you remember which folder a post is in without being able to find the actual post (unless you're willing to scan dozens of pages). --Isharon 18:07, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Spell Template

With the advent of Magic 3.0, I think that it would be good to add a category for obsolete spells. (Currently, they are listed in planned spells, which is misleading.) --Isharon 16:56, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. Lemmie see if I can set up the template to handle it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:38, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Done, and recategorized. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 23:26, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Constellation Template

Hi Caraamon,

Any chance the default for not having the "hours in sky" be "all night" or something like that? I ask because hours of night are seasonal dependent, and the constellations with specific hours do not have a varying time.

Thanks, --Hithrael 03:21, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm, I've got an idea. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 10:16, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

In theory, it should be done. I haven't had time to fully test it, so let me know if it goes wonky. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:57, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
There seems to be some ambiguity about the "End Date." Are you listing those as the first day they can't be seen, or the last day they can be seen? -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 03:02, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Start date should be first date visible, end date should be the last date visible.--Hithrael 03:09, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Good, because that's what the template assumes. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 03:10, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Generally, I go, "Huh we need new mods. Lets check the recent activity list. Okay, he/she's been doing a lot of work." If you haven't been asked, it means that I just didn't happen to see you, not that I've decided you aren't good enough (usually). -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:03, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Deletion Requests

Please delete Post:The Big Post of Magic Techniques - 1/29/2011 20:41:38. I forgot the hyphen in the date and didn't realize that it had already been posted. --Isharon 17:00, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

I noticed that a person by the name of UliannaMiddleton made an account, posted an article on MCSE, and uploaded a picture about that, all within 1 minute. Looked like a spam bot to me so I edited away the info on the article. If you would please, delete everything else? Dezmis 08:58, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Nice catch! -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 09:25, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Change of Page names

hey chief, a couple of pages i thought could use a name change, and i'm not sure how... 'sky hawk' - are actually called 'giant snow hawk' in Forf (i added the desc and some notes) 'year 400 fireworks' - i think should be called a 'spectacular show' maybe, since that's what it was called when observed in the sky Powerhaus jan 8, 2011

Moved Hawk page after some fumbling. I don't know much about the fireworks so I'll leave that decision to someone else.
-Glimmereyes 05:06, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
I added a redirector for it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 05:09, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Durability Changes...

Ok, so with durability changes comes new "ranges" in appraisals...

Do we have anything setup that recognizes "Was appraised with old ranges" vs "Was appraised with new ranges" in wiki, if not should we? [2] --Callek 20:12, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Yup. Items not marked with "newapp=yes" get tagged with Template:OldApp. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:15, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Not sure if this is a result of the new durability changes... but when doing database search/sort, the highest to lowest order goes 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 10, 1. TEVESHSZAT 21:21, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, I'll look into it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:44, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Can you post a link to an example? It doesn't seem to be doing that for me. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:54, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
When I sort this page by balance, it does the 9, 8, 7, etc etc etc 10, 1 thing, but ONLY when I do from most to least. When it goes from least to most, it sorts properly. Sorry for the super long and messy URL. It seems owly and bitly etc are all blocked as spam options.

Okay, I see it. I suspect it's a bug with the semantic programming, considering how specific it is. I don't think there's anything we can do. I'll do a bit more checking. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:33, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Just wanted to give you a heads up. It's a really specific oddness and I doubt people would often even run into it. TEVESHSZAT 22:34, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Multiple Shops

I was thinking about this on my ride home from a road trip, would it be easier to use other designations for festival shops that change year to year instead of (1), (2) etc? For example, for Hallow Eve fests, they could be (HE2008), (HE2009). Most fests are able to have a two letter designation, HE, GF, EL(Feast of Eluned), EL2(Feast of Eluned2), etc. then that way, we know which year which shop much easier. Just a thought. --Ysselt 03:04, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

In general, I would agree, except that it seems that some versions show up at multiple festivals, before they get switched to a new version. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 01:36, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Sysops

I've named you "lead sysop" even though you've been in that roll for a while now. Please glance over the current admins listed here and let me know who you think we should bump down due to inactivity and let me know if you want to bump any current editors up due to their contributions to the wiki. I trust your judgement.--Naeya (talk) 21:46, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Wow, I'm flattered. Thanks for your trust.
Congratulations. You do tons on this site so if anyone deserved it, it's you. TEVESHSZAT 01:06, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
As for admins, I think we need to drop Farman and Aetherie, as the most recent post by either of them was January 2009. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:46, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Shops by Type subcategory not sorting properly

As the title says, when you get to the lowest level of shops by type everything is bunched together under a single heading based on the level higher. So for example, instead of Magic Shops sorting each shop by the shop's first letter, everything is listed under M for Magic Shops. I checked a few other random subcategories like Shops by Town, etc and they all seem to be working fine.

It may take a bit to repopulate, it but should be fixed now. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 23:27, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Weapon Search Page

Is there a way to search for weapons that are multiple types, i.e. HT/pike vs. HT/HB or 2HE/HE vs 2HE/2HB? If not can that be added in? Love the feature btw. --Thilan 15:51, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

You mean items that are both? Hmmm... Lemmie think about how to do it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:52, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Blacksmithing

Since you are putting so much work into the new blacksmithing pages, I wonder if you could ad something rather important that is missing: What can you actually make? A list of items which can be crafted I think would be highly useful. Russell 18:49, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Workin on it :P -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:15, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Snow Elf Page

Hey there! Is there any way we could get a player page for the Snow Elf category? I had originally had mine on there (just because there wasn't one) and noticed that there were a couple other PC's under the regular Snow Elf category. --Slecker 17:02, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Go ahead and make one. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 18:00, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Age

I undid your redirect on Age, it created a circular redirect and the page and info became lost. I am not sure which page you wanted the info to be on (Age or Age command) but it ended up on neither with both redirecting to each other. I was scratching my head for awhile trying to find that info that I knew existed before. Go ahead and set it back up how you intended, but I had to undo it for now. Russell 07:10, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Wasn't paying attention and I didn't notice the Age command redirected to Age. Ooops. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:41, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for Helping!

I couldn't get the toy sources to link to the treasure box without it displaying oddly. TEVESHSZAT 02:13, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Just make sure to set the source type to "other." That should fix the issue. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:15, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Plat Timeline Differences

There's been an interest to record how IG events worked out differently in Plat than they did in Prime, so both players and GMs are better at remembering all the minor differences that tend to happen. Would you recommend just having people add a "Plat Differences" section where appropriate? TEVESHSZAT 17:08, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Go for it. Knock yourself out. I have 0 issues with that. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 23:59, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Congrats!

Hey, Caraamon, congrats on being made admin! I like what you did with {{spell}} and {{item}} templates, automatically adding {{incomplete}} when the infobox is missing certain info, that's nicely coded. I made a few tweaks to {{incomplete}} to make it look better, hope you agree with my choices. --Farman 10:56, 19 April 2008 (CDT)

Alicia Crowther

Hi, I see you've moved the Alicia Crowther article from "Alicia" to "Alicia Crowther". How to name articles has been an ongoing concern for the Elanthiedia which has received much discussion in the past. A while back, however, everybody was able to agree on the first-name-only format (with a few exceptions) enough that it has been entered into the Elanthipedia:Manual_of_Style. Hope that helps. --Basselope 12:59, 29 April 2008 (CDT)

I just noticed the discussion over at Elanthipedia:Manual of Style/new. --Basselope 13:20, 29 April 2008 (CDT)

Site Layout in Firefox 9.0

I have some information about what is causing the left-hand menu to be pushed down in Firefox 9.0. --Isharon 20:29, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

This is caused by browser sniffing that has been broken in Firefox 9. The property navigator.taintEnabled is no longer supported so the wrong css file gets loaded which sets the margin-left of the div column-content to zero. As a result there is less room for the navigation div which is pushed down.

Sounds like we may need to update stuff. Lemmie see if I can find someone to do that. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 04:21, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

I just caught a thread while doing my Mozilla Work, so I actually do know what is causing that, I'll plan to launch AIM and touch base with you this week to figure out if there is a stopgap we can do to fix it short-term, and try to schedule a time/date to do a larger site-maintenance with you. ... Unless you have someone else in mind who can do devote more time here for you. --Callek 18:03, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

PC Template

Would you mind adding a status (y/n/r) to indicate whether the PC is active, dead, or retired? Some PCs have been killed off, and their players would like to indicate this in the infobox. Thanks! --Isharon 05:56, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Done. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 11:39, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Doesn't seem to be working. In fact, I have grown a weirdness on some PC pages. "Status {{#if: | " I attempted adding this field but it does not result in a normal look to the field, just gives the addition of a letter before the bar |. The forms for PC and the help pages should be updated, also, once this field is working properly. I do not have sufficient access to edit those.  :) --Steph 12:51 PM Wednesday, November 30, 2011 (UTC)
The display is not working correctly. I changed "alive" to "active" (to contrast with retired). Would you consider moving the status line from the top to beneath the "instance" line? Thanks! --Isharon 17:55, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Oops. Fixed. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 20:06, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! It's working now. --Isharon 20:16, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

....well #^^#$^#$. If I update the weapon template, we're going to have issues with slowdowns like before... I think I'll wait on it a week or so. Let the folks finish updating the fest stuff. Remind me in a week if I forget. <mutter> -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:53, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Are the spam accounts not being made from any common IP addresses? It's possible using admin controls for the website to disable account creation by IP or a range of IP addresses. Just trying to save you admin guys a some trouble. Personally, I want to punch them in the face, even if they are just bots.--Zamara 18:42, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

We have IP disabling abilities, and we use them. But apparently they have IPs to burn. [shrug] -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 23:04, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Adding Content

Hey buddy. If you notice some incomplete pages for the Rakash Library, its because I'm in the process of adding the content to the 'pedia --Alexii 14:01, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Going through the futurepast site and adding old information about the Ghost ship quest to the quest page. Parts and Skins and Templates, Oh My!

Requesting that the critter info template lets us confirm what "types" of stuff a critter has. parts/skins/etc. --TEVESHSZAT 17:26, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

I'll add it to the list. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 17:57, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Done. Even set up to handle the eventual addition of bones and organs. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:25, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Doesn't appear that there's a section to input the weights for the various skin options. Since it hasn't come up, probably not a high priority, but when you have a moment. -Glimmereyes 17:57, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
I was just going to leave that to the Crafting Materials page. Do you see a need for it on the critter page? -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:22, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Either add it to the Form, or remove "Skin/Part/etc Weight" it from the Template so it stops nagging me to add it! I'd go with remove from the Template, the info is on the Materials page, don't really need it on a seperate page. -Glimmereyes 22:02, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I had the weight in the template but not the form, so I probably had a plan for it. Considering I can't remember it, I don't want to just yank it. Weight has been added to the form. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:23, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Weapon Requests

I would like to put in an order for the following weapons:

broadsword HE 02- poor 11- great 05- fair 06- decently 07- reasonably 35

throwing hammer HB/HT 00- no 01- dismal 11- great 05- fairly 06- decently 36

marauder blade 2HE M 02- poor 16- v.extreme 05- fair 06- decently 08- soundly 44

My IGN is Eshum. Also had a question about what adding tyrium to these weapons would do to the stats......I have some in the vault so I would provide the materials.

Your stuff has been ready for a while, I can't seem to find you. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 01:43, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Worn without armor item template bug

The drop down menu says "worn with out armor" but the system itself wants it to say "worn without armor" --TEVESHSZAT 04:05, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Think I got it, but I wouldn't mind a double check since I don't do much with Forms. -Glimmereyes 04:30, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Form:Critter listing provinces

The Critter form had issues with multi-province creatures (E.G. Rock Troll (1)), it would only allow one province to be selected. If you manually edited the field, subsequent use of the Form would remove the field. I took a stab at changing it from a dropdown to a list and nothing appears to have exploded, but may want to double check when you have a moment. -Glimmereyes 04:48, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Dash redefined?

Did the way dashes work in the editor change? It looks like any list that includes a dash now has the item after the dash become it's own line. As an example, see how loot displayed on the Quelling the Riot page. --TEVESHSZAT 22:12, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

No, looks like I might have broken the linking template. Hold on. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:15, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Fixed. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:16, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Housing Template

Would it be possible to alter the Housing template to allow multiple Classes and Restriction options. Riverpine has housing for Low and Middle. Raven's Court is restricted to Thieves and Traders. Is there a reason the date from Last Update is a link, or just force of habit? -Glimmereyes 19:21, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Planned, planned, and ... I'd have to check. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:34, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Leather Data

Feel free to copy my data as needed. -Kasrendyr Windrustle

I appreciate it! -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:46, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Okay, the shield data should now be fixed. I think it was just the target shield hinderance was off. I also removed the harness and durability columns as they aren't really relevant once the shield is made. I created a new targe and kite shield and added the stats for them as well. Tanned large shields appear to be nerfed now, but I didnt spot any changes to the medium or small shields. I have over 400 appraisal, so I am getting Paladin level reads on the stats.

Rare tag?

First off, awesome idea. That said, is this available to add via template yet? I assume it's generally meant for treasure map prizes, auction items, and high-tier uniques? --TEVESHSZAT 17:18, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

As it's meant generally to be an advanced user option, my inclination is not to add it to a form. Just add "|rare=true" to the page, within the template variables. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:10, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Haralun Partisan?

Hey Caraamon, I know you specialize in weapon making, but wondering if you could pump out a Haralun Partisan if I provided the material? The other thing is would you need the 13 volumes of haralun in one ingot or do you make a special mix? I have no idea how the upper echelons of forging goes with rare metals and special mixes and what not. Shoot me an IM at HealfdeneDR --Healfdene 07:09, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

critter range set as a number?

Not sure if this was something that broke and was overlooked or not. It shouldn't be set as a number, right? --TEVESHSZAT 06:30, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

It was supposed to be, but the version change broke how it was suppose to work, and I've been putting off finding a way to fix it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 04:05, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

just a heads up on serrated instructions

Looks like they create gore weapons. --TEVESHSZAT 04:28, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Or just verby ones. Might have spoke too soon, hah. --TEVESHSZAT 04:30, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Yep, I've played with one, slightly verby weapons with a damage different distribution than others. I still need to get my hands on the instructions before I can do an accurate comparison.-Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 04:57, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Weapon request

Like to request a couple of weapons:

  • hunting sword * HE 05- fair 10- v.heavy 06- s.moderate 06- decently 07- reasonably 50
Increase the balance by one at the cost of one suitability, reduce weight by one at cost of impact
  • nightstick * SS M 00- no 03- low 09- heavy 07- reasonably 08- soundly 44
  • kris LE 05- fair 06- s.moderate 02- poor 09- well 04- inadequately 14

I'll check the page back tomorrow if you have any questions.

First off, which character are you, and second, the sword can only be balanced OR honed, not both. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:40, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Caelric is my main, and balanced is what I would choose, then.

They're ready. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 06:46, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Spell Template Request

I would love to see a category for contested spells, with two boxes to indicate the type of contest (attacker vs. defender). I would also like a category for skill type (Augmentation, Debilitation, Targeted Magic, Utility, or Warding). Thanks! --Isharon 07:39, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Done. Some of the stuff was being broken by a stupid typo on my part. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 09:36, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! I am planning to go over all of the Paladin, Empath, and Analogous Patterns spells to make sure they're all filled out completely. --Isharon 20:44, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Spell templates

It seems that theres something odd about the Bard spell templates where it is adding extra info parts that no longer apply like enchant type, pulse timers, etc. You can look at Hodernia's Lilt and see what I mean. Is there any way that this can get removed since Bard magic is now identical to other casters? --DkAngel23 21:10, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I'll do it when I have a moment of spare time. There are some other time-sensitive stuff that needs doing first. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:14, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Any timeframe for going through and combining the 3.0 information into the mainstream stuff? Are you wanting to wait till Sat morning when they take the game down? --DkAngel23 07:22, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Yep. We'll start moving stuff over once the game goes down. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 07:48, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

What are your thoughts about the approach to do that, in terms of renaming articles etc? --Farman 19:55, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

I think it might be worth making a discussion in the town green to discuss policies on how Epedia will handle article management for the transition --Farman 20:16, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

I think having a conduit to direct people to things to update would be great. I tried putting up a nomination for the Category:Articles_for_DR3_Updates page as an Improvement Drive, but can't quite figure out what I need to do to get the heading to show with a link to the category page. Its a quick, easy way to direct people to an auto-populated page that lists articles needing updates after 3.0 hit. Any thoughts on it? --Leito 06:47, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Spell Categories

It looks like there may be an issue with the Area of Effect and Spell Scroll categories that were created. They dont seem to be linking any of the area or scroll 3.0 spells. Figured Id toss a heads up. -- DkAngel23 12/9/12 09:41AM

Changed how the templates handle it. Let me know how that works. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 20:47, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Still seems to be an issue with the Area of Effect section on the spell categories. I set TKS and MS as area of effect with the updated spell form to check it and they still dont show. New Multistrike and Scroll categories work great now. --DkAngel23 20:48, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Also on a side note Buffing section isnt taking into account the Augmentation type spells, Defensive section isnt taking into account the Warding type spells, and we should probably have a Debuff category for Debilitation types. --DkAngel23 20:52, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I removed all the old tags like buffing, etc. no longer function. They've been taken over pretty much by the skill options. If you feel like others need to be added, go ahead and suggest them. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 03:01, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Well if we want to update them the Buff Category could be either renamed Augmentation or stay Buff and just link the Augmentation spells over. Defensive category is the same just in regards to Warding. As I mentioned above a Debilitation or Debuff category should be added. On the Healing category thats fine but might add in a way to tag the healing type spells in the spell forms somehow. I can go back through them in that case and update the new Empath 3.0 spells for it. And I saw you made a Battle spells category which could be added to the Spell Types page. --DkAngel23 20:22, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Go ahead, you don't need me for those. I'll let you know if I disagree with anything you do. Have at it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 05:24, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Spell 3.0 templates?

Are there such things? I noticed that some folks are using a template that appears different from the one used in many of the current spell pages? Can you clarify this for me? I was going to add all the Ranger spells... --Luckysevens 01:37, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

The current spell template has been updated to work with 3.0 spells. So knock yourself out. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:23, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

If you go to the main page under the Contributing section there is a link to forms. The spell link in there is the new 3.0 form. --DkAngel23 8:23 30 November 2012

spam filter suggestion

Would it be possible for the signup process to require initially using a play.net address with a verification link in the email? Might greatly cut down on all these spam accounts you're having to deal with lately. --TEVESHSZAT 18:01, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Title Forms

How do you format requirements in the forms:

Must know at least X spells from the YY book.
At least X ranks in 1st highest (ranged|melee|blunt) weapon.
Must be at least X circle

Could this information be added somewhere for future reference? I'm trying to update the guild title pages with a buttload of data, but am having trouble with formatting.

booze question

A chunk of the bootlegger crate boozes have item sections as their drink name, but not bottle/jar/jug/etc included. Is that the style we're going with? I thought the one I fixed was just a mistake but it looks like a few are set that way. --TEVESHSZAT 02:34, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Just the booze name, because they can come in a variety of containers. If there are ones that are different, feel free to fix them. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:44, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Festival combine question

Hey Caraamon, I noticed there is a page for Jeolandu Festival 389 and a page for Chris's Mass Festival 389. These are in fact the same festival. I can verify from two sources, plus I was there. :) Which one is better to combine them all (the shops) under, Jeolandu or chris's mass?

Or do you have a better thought of how to get all the merchants on both maybe? but I didn't see the sense in duplicating it all on both. The Chris's Mass page is way more filled out, map link, etc, so it would be my pick. Let me know please. Thanks! Linett 9/7/12 around 7:20am

Fest and Quest

Hey champ, just wondering if the e-pedia team would entertain the idea of a Festival and/or Quest link on the main page? Perhaps in "The World" section?--hexedbythenet 06:39, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Sure, fits nice under "The World" section. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 06:43, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Plat rare metal pricing

I really have no frame of reference, so I picked a rough guess of what was affordable in plat given the supply/demand.

What does stuff cost in Prime for rare metals?

Material Price
Lumium 2plat kronars per vol
Gold/Plat/Silver/Electrum 60% of app value
Damite 80 plat kronars per vol
Glaes 80-100 plat kronars per vol
Haralun/Kertig 100 plat kronars per vol
Silversteel 200-500 plat kronars per vol
Caraamon can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this data to be current, give or take. --Zamara 22:42, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
Yep, that's more or less accurate. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 10:14, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Necroing this thread a bit, but is there a place (or do you even think there should be?) for this kind of information on the crafting metals page? Sort of a current market snapshot? --Naeya (talk) 22:03, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
It would depend on whether or not someone wants to constantly maintain it. My personal view of it is that it's probably not worth the effort, and I'd rather steer away from something so subjective and might have people ranting about us fixing prices. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 03:48, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Guild ability templates

Noticing that there isn't really a standard guild ability page format, specifically for beseeches:

http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Beseech_Elanthia_to_Cradle
http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Beseech_the_Sun_to_Dry

Which format do you prefer? I personally don't like the latter as it looks just like a spell, which may be confusing. Is there an updated template that we should use?

Also, is this your preferred avenue for questions regarding epedia? Thanks --Luckysevens 20:32, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

The guild ability template came into existance after many abilities were written up and have yet to be converted. I'd prefer using the template, and you're more than welcome to suggest changes if you don't like the way it looks.
As for contact me, this page works as does IM (CaraamonDR). -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:01, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Punctuation marks in post titles

Let me ask you something: Do we include them or not? The previous time I made a post with a question mark, it was replaced for one without (it was a while ago, I forget what it was about). So I wrote it down so I wouldn't forget. This time I make sure to leave it out and then boom there's this one: Post:Crossbows_and_Stats?_-_02/06/2013_-_15:50

Critter Template & Manipulation

Since there is no longer a heavy cost and upkeep for manipulation (this was changed years ago) can we modify this template section on the Critter Temp? Leave the can it be manipulated (yes/no/unknown) and instead of Cost and Upkeep it should have: Empathy required to manipulate 1 creature, required for 2 creatures, Empathy teaching cap. I think the old tiers listed there were for the cost per number of creatures, but it's now capped at 2 creatures. I looked at it and it seems pretty easy to adjust this, but I didn't want to break half the wiki. --Zamara 00:29, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Good catch. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 19:43, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Just give me the word on when you *can* put up the names. I'm thinking a short blurb the same as is done with the Thief guildleaders, along the same guidelines thus preserving the secrecy. Can give short descriptions of Looks, when you give permission to do so. Additionally, saying which provinces guilds is associated with Philosophers, Perverse, etc was in a GM post on Simutronics boards so thus would *not* be considered a secret except In-game, so that could be reposted here Kydosha 07:10, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

I don't have an issue with the allegiances being listed, but no names for now. I'll see if I can track down a GM and find out whether or not they care about these guys. If you think the descriptions are useful without including the names, go for it, but make sure they don't give anything away. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 11:43, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
Spoke to a GM about this. Basically, once the GLs are general knowledge (one is, one isn't explicitly known to be a GL, the other ones are basically unknown), the GLs can be listed. For now, the only one that can be really listed is the P1 one. --TEVESHSZAT 21:14, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Elriic Issue

Elriic has an issue with a perceived attitude problem. He also seems to believe that he can threaten to write a shell script to keep inserting his version of the auction table ("I can revert my changes every day. I will write a shell script that checks this page every 5 minutes if I have to. Tev, STOP undoing people's changes. I'm not joking. This is your one warning to not start a pissing contest with me. You will lose." - Guildfest_409_Auction history page note).

While I have no issue with him taking issue with my editorial stance on the auction page, I consider his desire to keep overriding moderator edits a reason to be banned. You'll probably want to talk to him about this since you are more likely to be much more diplomatic and patient with him, as he generally has issues with me on the DragonRealms forums themselves. --TEVESHSZAT 14:44, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Tev, you're correct. I have massive issues with you. You have a God Complex and have no clear understanding what a community is. A community does not = You delete information and put your crap in replacement. A wikipedia is a fluid site that encourages contributions from the COMMUNITY. Your desire to see your fingerprint on EVERYTHING whether or not its here on the pedia or on the forums is beyond pathetic. I don't care if you delete other people's work. Do not touch mine and we won't have a problem. --Elriic 17:25, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
I've set the auction page to administration-only edits since Elriic is flying off the handle. We seem to be on the same page when it comes to wanting item specifics on the pages about the items themselves, and I'm not sure why he refuses to do that instead of continually trying to do it on the auction item directory itself. --TEVESHSZAT 18:01, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Congratulations on proving my point. You might as well just remove all user edits from this site since you clearly don't want a community and want a Tevipedia. --Elriic 19:14, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
By the way, the least you can do is spell my name right. But then you're Tevipedia and are infallible. --Elriic 19:16, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
The page was locked because you clearly don't want to wait until Caraamon and I can talk about this later tonight. I still don't understand why you don't just add the information to individual item pages. I also noticed that you gave Isharon a similar threat last month, where you said "Just saying before the festival starts. If you start mass overwriting people's information, with things you get from a script that is patently wrong, I'll personally write a script that runs every twenty minutes and restores the older information from multiple IP addresses. Try me." This seems like a running problem you have with moderators, especially ones that seem to be having to check and double check Linett's work. --TEVESHSZAT 19:32, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Actually this has nothing to do with Linett. I realized I was being unreasonable with Isharon and quite frankly I intended to post on your talk page. I also deleted it. Isharon's a reasonable person who understands how to work with others as opposed to what you do. I'm still trying to figure out why I'm wasting my energy feeding your ego, and I keep coming back to the fact that I don't want information to be lost. Stop deleting useful information and replacing it with useless crap and this whole issue ends. Do you not get that deleting contributions from other users on this site is wrong? --Elriic 19:46, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
The general format that the community has developed for auction tables is for the note column to describe only the general nature of the item. Additional details, such as the stats of a weapon or itemized contents of a container, are posted on the individual item pages for those who want more information. This reduces clutter and makes the table easier to read. --Isharon 19:55, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
I can understand wanting to preserve information for future additions to the individual item pages, but I would suggest posting that on the auction's Talk page rather than cluttering the "official" table. --Isharon 19:55, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Once again, if you are concerned that information is going to be lost, post the information on the individual item pages. That is why they exist. I'm also wondering what edits of mine you were talking about when you "accidentally" threatened Isharon instead of me, since I (1) don't use any epedia scripts and (2) you posted that to her on May 31, 2013, and the Festival map edits started taking place on June 1st, and (3) how does preemptively threaten a moderator make you look good? --TEVESHSZAT 19:53, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
I'm done with you. A moderator would have moved the information to the appropriate place rather than discarding it. This is your ego, plain and simple. If you wish to create Tevipedia, then so be it. I'll stick to editing my user page, maintaining the trailblazer page, and the vela'tohr page. I want nothing to do with a community that is not a community. I apologize for threatening you. That was childish and reflects the degree to which I'm disgusted by your actions. Which does not for ONE MOMENT change the fact that your ego is getting in the way of common sense.--Elriic 20:04, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Building out individual pages with item details is already on the docket. You would have known that if you spoke to me (or Caraamon) before going off the handle. Sadly, instead having time to build those pages, I had to deal with a crazy person with an obvious grudge. --TEVESHSZAT 20:19, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Enjoy yourself Tevipedia. Site's all yours now. --Elriic 00:29, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Okay, several things:
First and foremost: anyone who uses a script or any other means to repeatedly alter a page will be banned. I don't care if you're right, I don't care if you're a mod. I do not want to have to do this to anyone.
Second, both of you have some good points, but this is a bad place to explore them. I'll contact you on IM and I'm sure we can work out something everyone will be satisfied.
Third, I've set up this page to make clear the procedure for dealing with issues like this. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 09:04, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Crafted items and semantic search

So I recently created a specific item page for the ribbed cougar-bone aventail becuase I was interested specifically in that item as a whole. It's both a "ribbed aventail" recipe, but also made of cougar bone material. So I was making an effort to create a generic "ribbed aventail" recipe page that would use a semantic query to fill out all the different bone types from their armor items. For example, the "ribbed cougar-bone aventail" and the "ribbed rat-bone aventail", etc. would all show up there. I see that you redirected the page away from the specific item and back to the recipe's page, but that defeats my goals. I was hoping these crafted items could show up in armor queries. Do you have a plan for how to represent crafted items that you can explain to me so I don't keep stepping on peoples' toes? Juugcatm 15:38, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Take a look at Weapon:Carving knife (metal). That's how we've been doing it so far, though I admit it's only been for weaponry. The important factor is to have a setup that works for both metal, bone, and leather armors/shields.
The problem is when you look at each and every possible combination of item piece plus material, you end up with a huge number of combinations, especially when you toss in reinforcing and lightening.
My thought was to have one page for armor type (since in theory all armor pieces of the same type and material have the same properties, excepting hindrance and weight) and then an individual page for each piece that will list hindrance and weight.
That being said, if you want to do a mock up of your idea, just indicate it's a test page and I'd be more than happy to hammer out the details. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 13:27, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
Armor:Ribbed Bone Armor (crafted) and Armor:Ribbed aventail (crafted)‎ is how I imagine it working. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 13:33, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm getting the impression

You're "suggesting" that we All Capitals the monster pages. Almaz 08:10, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Correct. That's been the way monster articles have been named since before I took up the reigns of the site. Why? Dunno, but it's a bit late to change it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 08:12, 18 October 2013 (UTC)
While I'm not really that fussed about it, it does get awkward when linking in actual articles, since wood trolls would, for instance, be linked as wood trolls, and it auto-capitalizes the first letter (making it transparent with first-in-sentence capitalizations in English) but not the second. Capitalizing it seems to require substantially more effort. Almaz 08:27, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Bestiary Level List

How does the table generate values for things like min/max rank caps? If I edit an individual critters page to update the min/max caps, will it reflect in the table, or do I have to edit the table itself? I can't seem to figure out how to do the latter. If it doesn't auto-update, is there an easy way to make that happen?--Luckysevens 18:30, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

The Bestiary Level List is automatically populated by data from the individual creature pages. --Isharon 05:51, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
What Ish said. It draws it's data from each of the individual critter pages. If you edit those, then it will alter the table, though there may be some lag between the two. If you do make an edit and it never seems to pop up, then edit the level list page, make no edits, then save it. That should refresh it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 05:54, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
Gotcha, looks like I was just being impatient. :) Thanks! --Luckysevens 18:14, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Shard alchemy shop pyramid

So I have an item that is purchased from a shop catalog, and the catalog link is just 'Wayerd pyramid', but when you buy it, you get 'a bone-trimmed wayerd pyramid'. The shop link currently points to a generic 'wayerd pyramid' item page. Want me to go ahead and just make up the correct item and let you worry about the shop link? The shop is Shard's Osut'vie. --Kythryn 06:19, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

alchemy-ish items

Ok, new question before I start in on my next round of adding in new alchemy stuffs. Bottles, jars, jugs. Things like this are useful in alchemy now for consolidating water from a fresh water source, but they don't have any analyze to them because they aren't tools. I'll be making a note of how many parts of liquid each will contain in my sandbox notes, do you want me to add that as a 'free text' note to the e-pedia listings too? And since they are alchemy-ish, I want to make sure you want them tagged with the 'alchemy' property as well (even though they aren't tools).
And, in practice, jugs & bottles are the same thing (containers with 'stoppers'), do you want separate top pages for these if we consider them 'alchemy tools' or do we have just a single top page and mention in the descriptive text there are different types (jugs, bottles, beakers, etc.)?
Also, I was working to bring in-line all the primary alchemy tool pages to match the Wayerd pyramid page and saw that the Unlonchai bucket page had been redirected to unlonchai bucket. Can I go ahead and put it back to the Unlonchai bucket so that it matches the other tool top pages?
Thanks! --Kythryn 05:38, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

If the jugs, bottles, etc. are no longer used for mixing or anything but collecting water, then they're not alchemy tools, they're just odd containers, so go ahead and pull off the alchemy tags. Go ahead and pick a generic term if they all act the same, just note they come in a variety of forms. Go ahead and add container amount, no issues there.
From now on, assume that if it doesn't have an analyze, it's not a tool (for those crafts that are released) unless you can think of a good idea why not. My preference would be to err on the side of labeling too many things, rather than too few, as it would be far harder to dig through "not tools" looking for the "semitools" compared to just skipping over a couple of "semitools" when going through the tool list. However, I'll leave it to your judgement.
For ease of use, if an item is used in one of the old crafts, but not the new ones (for those released) don't label it as a tool for that craft. For example, the tincture jars (at least, I don't think they're used now, ignore if they are). Eventually the supply of old herbs/etc. will be gone and they won't be usable, but by then we'll probably have forgotten.
Also, go ahead with the bucket page, make a top page, as I expect they'll start coming in a variety of forms like the pyramids, eventually.
And as always, if I've overlooked something that makes any of these suggestions stupid, go ahead and work out something that works better. I'm not nearly as tyrannical as the constant beheadings would indicate. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 13:34, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Searching Forum Posts

Sometimes I remember which GM posted something I want to look up, and it'd be nice to be able to have a query to search for archived posts under that GM. Is there an easy way to do that currently? Normally I just use a wildcard search for the GM's name, but the results are pretty ugly. --Zamara 18:18, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

New Form for Player-Owned Boats/Ships and support

Looking over the information for the player owned ships, I find that it's pretty lacking in information on the actual ships out there. I'd like to suggest a form for adding the information in there, and support for searching/listing the information as well as a category for Player-Owned Boats. I see from your archive that you've been asked in the past for help setting up a table. Unfortunately, the old roster on Kraelyst's site is down so I'll be attempting to build up this information from scratch. --hexedbythenet 19:41, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

It would also be need to add a link to the ships page either to the "player" section or the "world" section on the front page. :)--hexedbythenet 19:59, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

If I'm understanding you right, you want a form for PC boats like Form:Weapon? I'm not entirely sure that's necessary, or even reasonably easy. Forms work oddly, and I'm not sure they're suited for that. Let me think on it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 23:37, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

The form would just make it easier to log the information from the 50+ boats. It would also make going though the existing listings easier. Start with the page name/boat name. Select player owned or public. Put information for Rooms, Pilot, Captain, etc. If a form would be unreasonable, a template could also work for what I envision. Have all ships go into the Category:Boats and split that into two sub-categories for Public Vessels and Private Ships. I pretty much picture this looking like a list of the boats with each page containing information displayed in the same manner as a shop would instead of the paragraph of text approach. --hexedbythenet 17:17, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Ahhh, that is more doable. I thought you wanted a form for setting up a listing on a single page. Yes, that can be done. What information fields would you like present in the form/template? -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 18:49, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Awesome. I think fields for the following criteria would make the most sense. First, Public or Private vessel. Second, type of vessel. (I think these would make good options for selection: ferry, cog, cutter, brig, galleon, skiff, frigate, barge, schooner, sand barge, air ship, gondola and animal.) Third would be Rooms total, broken down into three sections. (I think these should be the following: on mast, on deck, below deck.) A section for the Pilot/Driver/Operator name. A section for the Captain's name if applicable (like the public transpo to islands have the Captains doing the wheelwork, not Pilots.) And lastly, a section for Notes on the vessel. Stuff like history for public boats and auction boats. Places for ship owners to add details about their vessel. ETC.

I think this would be amazing to house in just the Travel section now that I think about this and present this less as a template for boats specfically, but more as a template for adding in the information for the various travel services both game provided and player owned. Animal section could not only include the sea mammoths, but also perhaps even horses and all those other odd racial mounts. Giving all those methods of getting around a nice umbrella to rest under. How does that sound?--hexedbythenet 20:27, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

That's going to be a bit of a large task, as I'd have to write both a form and a template. Okay, I'll start on it when I have some time and motivation. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 01:51, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

I totally understand. However, I'm sure you would agree that it would be a huge step toward organizing the travel section as a whole and providing the information in a clean manner. I appreciate you taking the time to consider this and if you could just drop a message on my talk page whenever you decide to take it on, I'd appreciate that too. Thank you. --hexedbythenet 02:32, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Search Functionality

--Elriic 19:39, 25 August 2013 (UTC) - Hey Caraamon, do you guys have the incategory search option disabled? If so, could it be enabled? Trying to help someone do some research which needs to be narrowed down to the http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Category:Book category, but the standard wiki search keyword doesn't appear to be working.

Through the standard search or the advanced search? As far as I'm aware, absolutely nothing has been done to the search. It should be completely standard. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:22, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Advanced search. Try it. If you search for Bardic incategory:Book If should be returning only items in the Book category and is returning other stuff too. --Elriic 21:58, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
I'm not sure where you got those terms, but as far as I can tell they're not part of the basic mediwiki search. They might be part of a more advanced search package you can install. Do you happen to know which? -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:12, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
incategory's a basic search function. (I think, I haven't set up a wiki myself in about 10 years). At any rate, I'm curious, what engine are you using to produce your search results? Do you have a sphinx server running standalone? Are you caching the data at all or are you doing hardcore fulltext searches on the database tables. If you're doing this, we need to talk as there's some serious optimizations we can do that'll save processor time, cut down lag, and generally make things a lot more awesome. --Elriic 10:38, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
Using whatever basic search engine comes with the mediawiki package. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:22, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Weapon elemental properties not showing?

It looks like the longsword crafted from pure flame should be showing that it does fire damage, but I don't think the weapon template is set to actually show that. --TEVESHSZAT 18:02, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I need to add that, but I don't have enough time right now to fully add it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:42, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

weapon incomplete bug thing?

I'm not sure why the Jewel-hilted Gnomish long blade incised with a blood channel is convinced that it should have a third weapon type entered into it. --TEVESHSZAT 17:46, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Seems to be a thing with all 2-mode swapable weapons like the Dwarven tunneler's axe or bastard sword. But the ristes are still working because they've got all three. --Otterino 18:17, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Huh, sounds like I added a bug when I was messing around. Lemmie take a peek. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:23, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
I'm going to blame Tev for this, cause I want to. That thing that couldn't possibly have been my fault under any possibly circumstances (possibly) mysteriously fixed itself. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:30, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Re-direct request

Because I am still scared of breaking the world (aka. epedia...:P), in retrospect this page:
http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Ulhari
should be "Ulhari prisim" instead. Sorry, was just in the 'adding new materials' zone. --Kythryn 06:58, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

ugh, looks like there are 2 to do, sorry! I tried looking through HELP on how to do redirects myself, either it's an admin thing or I'm losing my mind. Anyhow, in addition to the Ulhari prisim thing above, the TARINAS page should be redirected to the TARINA page. Both got crated, but looks like the non-plural one is the one that's getting the information-love. Thanks again! --Kythryn 17:43, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
Redirects are fairly simple.
#REDIRECT [[where you want it to go]]
Just make sure that's the first code on the page. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:47, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
Perfect, thanks Caraamon! This will lead me to my next question too, which I'll put on a new sub-section...:P --Kythryn 14:44, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Trader Owned Shops & ilink (or similar)

Sooo...I was driving home earlier...er, Kythryn was taking the gondola back to Ilithi earlier...heh...and I was thinking about how it might be interesting to have the Trader Owned Shops be able to use ilink, like the festival shops do. Maybe only something similar to how ilink works though, by calling a link to the target page if it's already in the system, but slightly different (ie. a new template or whatever called "tlink" or "tloot") to keep the crafting material page from blowing up with common things. What I was imagining was a way to allow the item on a shop table to link FROM a Trader Shop page to the item page directly, but would go through a "search clearing house" when going back TO the Trader Shop page if that item was called in a search or SOURCE/MATERIAL automatic listing.
For example, when someone searches epedia for say item:bear-bone stack, not only would Zasele's Rewards and similar come up, but if a trader had some on one of their tables, it would also show up as a search link. You'd see as a Source on the Crafting Material page "bear bones, Zasele's Rewards, Darkbox, Trader Shops", and when you clicked on the "Trader Shops" it would list all the shops currently run by players that are carrying that item. It would, I imagine, encourage more traders to come post their stuff here on epedia. And, it would be another handy way for people looking for stuff to have a way to cross-link what they need with where they can get it.
Just something to mull over. I'm (slooowly) getting used to wiki-code, maybe someday I'll have enough mad-skilz to tinker around with trying to make that work. But, it might be something easy to code and play around with too. I just don't know! But I did want to put the idea out into the epedia universe as maybe something to put on the future projects list to think about. --Kythryn 02:07, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Interesting idea. I'll have to think about it. I think a search page might be a better solution. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 02:11, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Question

Any reason for rolling back all the zeros I put into the crafted gloves/armor pages so that you could sort them properly? Sorting doesn't work if some entries have the zero and or others go over 10... Wepwaet (Nov 25th)

I broke it

I did something weird to the ranger spell page. I think I must have had one of the lines out of order. I tried reversing my changes but it still looks weird. Halp. --GAMERGIRL151 (talk) 21:14, 22 June 2014 (CDT)

Order Gifts

So, I was thinking about all those gifts from different events over the years. Many of them are already in the database, just floating around here and there, and I was wondering if there was any way to list them on the pages for the groups they came from. Could this be done at the bottom of the pages, or would this be something that would be better on its own page with a link placed on the group's page? --hexedbythenet 16:53, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

You can either set them up on the page for the organization they came from, the event they came from, or a generic page for gifts from that organization, depending on what data you have and how you'd like to set it up. Use the {{sloot}} template to ensure they autosource. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 07:51, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Okay, I'm not familiar with exactly how to do that. :D So, any chance you can show me what you mean using this page as an example Thick_leather_liquor_sack_stitched_with_a_pink_war_mammoth --hexedbythenet 14:57, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Error when uploading image

I'm trying to upload a .png file of the new 3.1 Moon Mage spell tree and it is returning these errors:

  • Could not open lock file for "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/4/41".
  • Could not open lock file for "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/4/41/3.1_Moon_Mage_Spells.png".

I've tried various sizes of files thinking it might be a file size issue, but no luck. I've tried both creating a new upload as well as a new version of an existing upload. Not sure what else to try. --ABSOLON (talk) 10:05, 14 May 2014 (CDT)

Yeah, there's a technical issue with uploading images right now. So hold off till we nail it down. -CARAAMON (talk) 17:04, 14 May 2014 (CDT)

GMs and Approval

More a housekeeping thing, but I'm guessing that GM accounts shouldn't need to have their edits reviewed? I noticed that all of User:DR-MELETE's edits are on the patrol list, for example. --TEVESHSZAT (talk) 10:54, 16 May 2014 (CDT)

I prefer it for 2 reasons. 1) I like to see what the GMs add, and 2) not all of them are extensively wiki fluent (not that I'd expect them to be), so I prefer to do a quick check over. -CARAAMON (talk) 22:18, 16 May 2014 (CDT)

Possible category or category restructuring for spell scrolls

Over in this thread on the forums, there is a discussion about what to do with a list of spells that are possible to be found on scrolls that is in an odd spot. Short version: One suggestion is to either create a category for it or repurpose the current Category:Scroll_Spells with a sub-category for Scroll Only Spells. I was hoping to get your feedback on whether this is a good idea or not. I will make any necessary changes whichever direction is decided upon.--ABSOLON (talk) 10:08, 1 June 2014 (CDT)

Started poking around and realized that spell templates would have to be adjusted to factor this stuff in, so while the page is set up I'm leaving the rest to Caraamon himself. --TEVESHSZAT (talk) 11:40, 1 June 2014 (CDT)
I have made adjustments to the spell template before, specifically the adjustment to make it track spells via intro, basic, advanced, and esoteric rather than first, second, third, and fourth tier, so if you're willing I could go ahead and do that myself. The grunt work will be updating each individual spell's page once the template is in place.--ABSOLON (talk) 11:59, 1 June 2014 (CDT)
I've gone ahead and done a quick edit of the template to add the new Scroll Only Spells category as an option for source= and making sure the scroll graphic displays for the new category instead of the old repurposed one. I also edited Tangled Fate to test it. I'm holding off on doing more until I get the go ahead to continue just in case I didn't do it quite right or it should be done in a slightly different way. One thing I'm noticing is that Tangled Fate is showing correctly on the new Category:Scroll Only Spells page, but it isn't populating on the Category:Scroll Spells page despite it being a parent category. What is the best way to handle this?--ABSOLON (talk) 12:42, 1 June 2014 (CDT)
After doing some testing I've come to the conclusion that Tangled Fate is just not populating correctly, since I just updated Tezirah's Veil and it is displaying as expected. It probably has to do with the order I made the edits to the template and category pages and it will likely correct itself eventually. Since Tezirah's Veil is working properly I will go ahead and start updating every spell's page to properly reflect the new source categorization.--ABSOLON (talk) 00:19, 2 June 2014 (CDT)
Project completed, aside from filling out missing information and confirming existing information is correct.--ABSOLON (talk) 03:03, 2 June 2014 (CDT)

Database error

I think this is something the office will have to resolve, but there is a sql database error on the Item Hider page:

I'd be totally willing to be, but I have no webcam, so I don't know how much use that'd be. Usually I handle stuff like this on AIM, but I don't know if that's suitable for you. -CARAAMON (talk) 16:40, 16 July 2014 (CDT)
Actually, I just remembered I have one buried somewhere, so that could work too. -CARAAMON (talk) 16:45, 16 July 2014 (CDT)

Categories

I have noticed a strange problem I can't seem to figure out. The spell categories pages seem to be collecting spells in a strange way. For example, Gar Zeng is listed in Multistrike Spells rather than Multistrike Abilities. Fire Shard is listed in Multistrike Abilities rather than Multistrike Spells. As near as I can tell there is no difference in the wikicode. I have noticed some other spells that inexplicably don't show up in the proper categories like Dazzle not showing up in Category:Debilitation_Abilities -or- Debilitation Spells but likewise can't see any difference compared to Compel that is. I would be happy to chase these down and fix them if you have any idea how to do it.Ithrios (talk) 10:44, 7 August 2014 (CDT)

There's two things happening here. First, the entries on a category page only update when each individual entry is updated thereby resetting it's cache. This does happen automatically over time, but can be quite unpredictable as to when it will happen. You can force it to update on the category list by editing the individual page and saving it without changing anything.
The second is related, but works in the reverse. The spell tables on the spell category pages don't automatically repopulate when you update a spell, but rather only repopulate when the table itself is updated. Editing the category page and saving it without an edit should force this.
On occasion you might need to do both in order to get a spell/ability to show up in a table, so do a no-change edit/save of the page followed by the same for the category. Don't worry about spamming the recent changes either, since no-change edits don't register a history at all.
P.S. You don't want to know how many times I've had to do this to every single spell page when converting everything over to 3.0 standards. ^^;;--ABSOLON (talk) 11:22, 7 August 2014 (CDT)
Pretty much what Absolon said. Sometimes there's a lag time between when something is changed in a template, and when that change registers on pages that use that template. If something is every acting odd, the first thing to do is edit, make no changes, then save. -CARAAMON (talk) 14:15, 7 August 2014 (CDT)
So, yeah, I fixed it. I have even *more* respect for Absolon and the work he has done with spells if he has done that more than once. As a follow up question (now that I seem to be ripping my way through the magic pages and updating them), is it feasible (and desirable, I suppose) to add additional categories to some of the spell types like singe-shot targeted spells, integrity/potency/ablative/non-ablative wards and so forth? The latter, especially, is useful information if you want to stack wards (you are better off stacking two integrity wards that one of each, for example).Ithrios (talk) 15:52, 7 August 2014 (CDT)
Is it possible? Sure. But more categories means going back over every spell or ability, and either manually adding links/categories or rewriting the template to automatically do it, then rewrite the individual entries to update the infobox. And the question is whether a sufficient number of people would find it useful to be worth the effort. It is entirely possible to excessively categorize and label things. -CARAAMON (talk) 16:21, 7 August 2014 (CDT)

Titles 3.0

Is there a specific way we should update titles for 3.0? I'm just not really seeing how we are differentiating what reqs on a page are from 2.0 or are verified as being 3.0. Take Far Seer for example. I found in 3.0 that it still requires 500 Astro exactly like the 2.0 title, though it no longer requires 350 Perception skill, and if it does require perception it is 300 or less ranks. The spell req is still unknown if it is the same or not. Would it be best to make a note in the title's discussion page, or perhaps in the title's page add 3.0 req fields and still keep the old 2.0 reqs for reference, or create a new 3.0 title page for said title or somehow put a checkmark or the word 3.0 VERIFIED or something next to verified 3.0 reqs, or a question mark after old 2.0 unverified reqs? I rambled on there a bit, but I figure that there should be some way to make it known if a req is 3.0 verified or not, just not sure how to do it. -SYDNEE (talk) 17:34, 9 August 2014 (CDT)

Hmmmm, let me dig up the old code and see if I can't do something simple. -CARAAMON (talk) 21:20, 9 August 2014 (CDT)
Okay, added something. -CARAAMON (talk) 02:08, 10 August 2014 (CDT)

Bestiary - Missing Creature?

I noticed that Faenrae Assassins aren't on the bestiary page. It this because the skill caps have ? at the end? If so, is there a way to display all creatures, even if the exact skill isn't known? Alternately, should we just remove the '?'? -DRSCOTT

Yes, the ? make the page throw up an error which means as far as the system is concerned, those properties are blank. This causes some issues with the dynamic table. -CARAAMON (talk) 13:06, 11 August 2014 (CDT)

Player Organizations Page

I noticed a few missing links on the Player Organizations Page. Therengia Cavalry is among the missing organizations needing to be listed on that page, and Therengia Cavalry has had a page to link to on Elanthipedia for many years. I also wanted to suggest a Player Militias link on the main page, so the page listing all Provincial Militias can be accessed easily, instead of having to search for each one individually, and listing Official Order Militias along with them. I see the Inactive official Positions is actually the front page to which all active pages are linked, which should be changed to Official Positions, with the Inactive page link found on the bottom of that page. Thanks! Gwenddolyn

Okay, go ahead and fix them. -CARAAMON (talk) 15:57, 31 August 2014 (CDT)

Converting my guide

I'm going to gradually be moving the bulk of my guide for WM's over to the newbie contest thinger, but I plan to keep the spell reviews on the current page to prevent information bloat. When the time comes, would it be possible to rename that page to something like "Warrior Mage Spell Recommendations" or something? I am not strong in wiki-fu.

Shouldn't be a problem. -CARAAMON (talk) 17:30, 28 October 2014 (CDT)

"Item Tester" page

So this never made it over to the new server...it was where you could copy/paste the contents of your container into the box and it would show which ones were still red links (http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Item_Tester). I found some junk bags of stuff when I was looking for other bags of stuff and am grumbling about going through them all 1 by 1...hehe. --Kythryn 00:35, 30 October 2014 (CDT)

Oh gods. That was NOT a simple piece of code. Uh... lemmie see what I can do. -CARAAMON (talk) 14:03, 30 October 2014 (CDT)
It isn't a huge deal, it was just pretty useful for those of us who tend to throw everything into a bag to "sort later" and stumble over said bags years after the fact. But, if you DO get it going again, that'd be awesome! Thanks for checking into it. --Kythryn 14:25, 30 October 2014 (CDT)

That's the one! Thanks Absolon! I had just changed the link information from the old elanthipedia.org to elanthipedia.play.net and when the link came up broken, I thought it was a victim of the transfer. --Kythryn 14:48, 30 October 2014 (CDT)

Diminutive cambrinths

I've got a bunch of these, and before adding them all and possibly needing to go back and change all the listings, I put one up to see how you want them sourced. The one I added is Item:Diminutive cambrinth reaver. These are items from the Choryu cake random prizes. Do you want me to do an "sloot" list on the cake page so that the diminutive's source populates from that, or just manually enter in the cake information on the form SOURCE section as I've done with the reaver? Thanks! --Kythryn 14:06, 28 November 2014 (CST)

Yeah, do the sloot list off the cake. Understand that due to broken systems, the sourcing won't show up properly any time soon, so don't worry if it doesn't look like it's working. If you also want to manually add the source, that's up to you.
Another thing to look at is if all the figures are the same except for the creature. For example, if the LOOK and TAP are identical except for creature, make a single article for all of them under Item:Diminutive cambrinth creature and redirect any specific ones to that. An example of how we've done that in the past would be the Item:Gnomic bolt page.-CARAAMON (talk) 18:03, 28 November 2014 (CST)
Thanks Caraamon, I'll do the re-direct thing when I do another day of cambrinth additions. Also, I noticed that when a moderator checks the addition pages, some moderators leave (or add) cambrinth as a MTag, and some remove it. Should cambrinth be considered a material or should I stop adding it to the MTag? --Kythryn 20:13, 4 January 2015 (CST)
The system automatically tags any cambrinth item as having cambrinth material, but I personally prefer to be overly cautious and add it. Either is fine, just be consistent. -CARAAMON (talk) 21:39, 4 January 2015 (CST)
This has been completed: Item:Diminutive cambrinth creature. The only thing I was thinking I might do to finish up is to make a REDIRECT page for each of the known versions to point to the creature page. --Kythryn 15:24, 25 January 2015 (CST)

Stand-alone food & drink

heya! I put this question on a TALK page but I realized it might have gotten lost in the shuffle. There are a fair number of food & drink items in the game that aren't found in notable places. For instance, the stew in the link above is found in a building near Corik's Wall that doesn't do anything else (no shop, no housing, etc.). Since red-links are the enemy, it sucks to see it on the SOURCE for that item, but it also seems weird to make a page for just that room when it doesn't have anything else going on.

That being said, I can totally do that for the SOURCE rooms. If I do that, do you want me to put a quick "note" about where the location is relevant to something notable, since it doesn't have any indicator on the corresponding Ranik map that it is there? For instance, on this particular place I might put something like:
note: this building is found W, SW from the Corik's Wall gate.

Anyhow, let me know how you'd like these handled. --Kythryn 20:09, 4 January 2015 (CST)

If it's a source for something, I'd rather have a page made for it. If it needs directions from a major landmark on the page, go for it. -CARAAMON (talk) 21:44, 4 January 2015 (CST)
Ok, thanks for the feedback Caraamon. I made up a SOURCE page for this example: Corik's Wall, Refectory. Could you take a look over it and make any changes you want to see on formatting, etc. when you get a chance please.
Also, do you feel this is the way to proceed with the picked flora/fauna stuff too? I've held off adding any flowers, fruits, etc. that you can pick since most are like this; not found where they can be tied into a housing area, shop, whatever. Thanks!--Kythryn 22:37, 4 January 2015 (CST)
I would consider merging that particular one with Corik's Wall. But aside from that, yeah, if you need to make random and otherwise unlinked pages for sources, go for it.
And yeah, I would also do that for flowers and fruit, unless you can think of a better way to do it. -CARAAMON (talk) 01:52, 5 January 2015 (CST)
I've got a page started for the House of the Gilded Longleaf, there is a ton of refreshments and picked flowers there. I've done a couple rooms. Could you take a look over it, esp. the Item:Bright red geranium page, and let me know if you have any more feedback on things to add, improve, etc. Sorry to be so "needy" on this, but as I'm sure you can imagine, there are a kazillion flowers out there, and it would suck for someone to have to go back through and edit half of them before a mistake was caught. The one thing I wasn't 100% comfortable with on the flower was the IType; I put it as JEWELRY since it is worn, but I'm not sure that's the best one for it. Thanks! --Kythryn 03:18, 5 January 2015 (CST)
My only major edit I would do is to separate the organization from the location in two separate pages, even though they share the same name. I've also changed the fruit/flower listing to something I think looks better, though it's up to you if you want to use it. Lastly, if it's purely fluff and wearable, it's marked as jewelry, so no worries there. -CARAAMON (talk) 17:20, 5 January 2015 (CST)
Ok, I'll break those into 2 pages when I re-visit the grounds. Any particular way you want the new page named? I guess leave House of the Gilded Longleaf as the org. page and maybe House of the Gilded Longleaf (location) for the new page? --Kythryn 03:40, 6 January 2015 (CST)
Nope. The standard we have is that the original page would be a disambiguous page, and then you'd set up two daughter pages such as House of the Gilded Longleaf (location) and House of the Gilded Longleaf (group). -CARAAMON (talk) 15:43, 6 January 2015 (CST)
Ok, great, thanks! Split those up as recommended. On the "location" page, right now I am just adding in rooms that have items to find (food or flowers). I remember Linett had documented all the rooms of the GM houses for the recent Christmas showings. Do you want all the rooms documented here too? It might not be so bad for some of the other Houses, but the Longleaf grounds have almost 30 public and member-only rooms. It'll make for a pretty long page, but if that's ok, I'm happy to go back and put in those other rooms too. --Kythryn 12:39, 10 January 2015 (CST)
With that many rooms, just put the rooms that produce stuff. -CARAAMON (talk) 17:11, 10 January 2015 (CST)
I think I've got a decent handle now on this...the moderators haven't cracked down on me yet anyhow...:P. While this will be ongoing as I work through more provinces, this sub-topic is done unless you have more to add/suggestions. --Kythryn 15:20, 25 January 2015 (CST)

Fang Cove "sand"

So, I first found this sand you could search for shells and stuff in the housing area The Enclave at Fang Cove, made sense to put it on that page (even though there are multiple rooms, looks like the same loot pool from each). However, it appears there is also (at least) one more room outside the housing area that has this going on too. It kind of reminds me of the Sandbox game from HE festivals, so I was thinking maybe make up a game page instead of having it on the housing page? If that sounds right, then I'm kind of stumped on what to name it. Fang Cove beach combing? Fang Cove shells? Any thoughts you have would be appreciated! --Kythryn 03:38, 6 January 2015 (CST)

Fang Cove beach combing sounds fine to me. Here's an example of how I did it with another game-ish thing: Excavation sites -CARAAMON (talk) 17:10, 10 January 2015 (CST)
This should be done pending edits (and additions to the items found, I bet there's more): Fang Cove beach combing. --Kythryn 15:18, 25 January 2015 (CST)

theme music

Are we allowed to add theme music to a wiki page... or rolling credits?

Go ahead and link to music if you like, but nothing that auto-plays on the page itself, assuming we're even set up to do that.
As for animations, I'm going to say no. And I'll even add it to the MOS, as that seems to be missing from it. -CARAAMON (talk) 16:00, 10 February 2015 (CST)

Crossing Temple Festival

So, when I was working on the choryu cake page, I found an archived folder on my backup drive that had a bunch of documents I'd made from various festivals over years before sweet, sweet epedia came along (heh). I'll work my way through updating things over the next week from them, but I found one that epedia doesn't have (I don't think anyhow, I couldn't find anything with searches) a category and/or festival page set up for yet. In 2001, the "new" Crossing temple was opened and there were about 15 merchants that set up on the grounds. Did you want to set that category & festival page up? Or create the red-links here and I'll populate them next time I sit down to document? Thanks! --Kythryn 10:52, 13 January 2015 (CST)

Yeah, I think it was too early for Epedia and too late for DFP, or something around there. Just keep 'em redlinked until you put something in there. -CARAAMON (talk) 16:11, 13 January 2015 (CST)
Whew, your TALK page is getting long! Popular fella...:). Going to put a quick note on these sub-topics I've addressed so you can clean your "inbox" up if you want.
Linett got me motivated to finish this, I think she dug up the Sputkin tent or something. So, I guess this is done pending edits: Temple Reopening. --Kythryn 15:14, 25 January 2015 (CST)

Pit Boards

Being the resident Barbarian expert around here...:) Did you want a page created for the Pit Board rosters? I'm sitting here looking at the Ratha one, and while I'm guessing it has to do with Barbarians beating the tar out of each other, I figured I'd ask before jumping into formatting the table for it if there's some reason it shouldn't be on epedia. Thanks! --Kythryn 01:33, 7 March 2015 (CST)

We have guild renown boards, so I don't see why not. Go for it! -CARAAMON (talk) 17:54, 7 March 2015 (CST)

Forging lightweight HCS Poignards

Forging lightweight poignards from HCS for gnomes: a) I have found no way to reflect "honed" in the HC Steel table. Honed is the only way I know to make a 6 stone poignard from HCS, but I would prefer to make it explicit if possible. Can that be shown? How? b) my appraisals (certain) for 6 stone (honed) and 7 stone HCS poignards are identical to one another at mod/low/dismal, terrible, except-well/dismal when masterfully crafted from 99 material. Wondering if the 7 stone data in the table (shows excellently balanced) is a reality I somehow cannot duplicate, represents a balanced poignard not evident in the table, or an error. Please advise --Jbeetle 18:16 March 27, 2015 (UTC)

I've set up a temporary way to display notes, but I'm not sure we should do it. Balancing for sure is out, as it has predictable results always, but honing is still a problem as it will double the size of the tables. I'll have to think about it.
I rechecked the poignard and you were right, the balance was off.-CARAAMON (talk) 18:06, 27 March 2015 (CDT)
Very good. Thanks for verifying the weapon balance. WRT to managing table size, perhaps the honed note (if preserved) should be reserved for weights that can only be achieved through honing. If so, then would it simply be supplemental and prevent unnecessary duplication? For your considerarion. -Jbeetle 21:52 27 March 2015 (CDT)

Forging Table Data Missing?

Went in today to look up some weapon properties and data in the tables has been replaced by "?" for everything except weight for some forged items including katar, carving knife, and short hammer. -Jbeetle 19:28 10 April 2015 (CDT)

You can fix it by editing, making no changes, then saving. I'm not sure why it's happening, but I'll look into it. -CARAAMON (talk) 18:02, 10 April 2015 (CDT)

Old User Page

Hey Caraamon, assuming you still have admin/mod privs here can you move my old userpage from the prior incarnation of elanthipedia (User:Callek) to my new one User:CALLEK per the freemium play.net account I just got. (feel free to e-mail me at the address you likely have on record if you need a confirm). I'd also love getting some form of admin back, but I don't demand it at this time, since I am not yet certain how long I am back for (I haven't even chosen a guild for my newly created freemium character) --CALLEK (talk) 23:53, 23 April 2015 (CDT)

Thank You! --CALLEK (talk) 10:28, 27 April 2015 (CDT)

Metal mixes

Hi Caraamon -

I'm a ridiculously beginner forger but I am looking to get heavy into armorsmithing. Do you have any additional resources beyond what's on Elanthipedia for metal mixes? Or should I not even worry about alloys and the like?

Any advice would be awesome.

Thanks,

- Lyrandar

Searching

So, as an fyi, I learned that Searching the wiki fails when you uncheck various namespaces (e.g. if I want to search for stuff not in items, or not in Posts) I did verify that at least one thing in the "(Main)" namespace result set (a post) was actually in the Post namespace (per wiki {{NAMESPACE}}) which might be a need of regenerating the search/namespace index or something. --CALLEK (talk) 10:28, 27 April 2015 (CDT)

Semantic Media Wiki

So, when looking at special pages it appears that I have the admin access to the SMW functions (e.g. the regen all data). Which was already started when I looked, it's at 0%, I can infact cancel and restart those admin features.

I wonder if I retained/gained admin abilities in that regard again, or if everyone has those abilities (everyone shouldn't). It might also explain part of the issue with regard to the Semantic Searching not working. And might spell a problem with the overall SMW install.

Felt this was worth a note to pass off to SIMU-WHoever. --CALLEK (talk) 14:41, 27 May 2015 (CDT)

Woodland Wonders

Hey! I saw you happened on my faux shop page. I'm entering the Premie "Design a Shop" contest, and this seemed to be the best way for me to organize all the data. Hopefully it doesn't cause any issues!

I'm afraid it does. We only allow actual existing in-game items to be put up. It would cause such confusion if people were allowed to put up their items they're considering altering (or even altering) or design ideas.
I need you to take it down, please. I'll give you a couple days to do it, so you can save the info, but after that I'm going to have to start deleting it outright. -CARAAMON (talk) 16:14, 16 August 2015 (CDT)

Got it- I'll take it down ASAP.

Mistake?

Hey Caraamon, either this ([3]) was a mistake or its not, if not you likely need to remove ref to SIMUCOIN, if it is not as well I'd love a citation, since I *just* bought simucoins for offline drain as well, since I didn't have it as f2p as of a few days ago. --CALLEK (talk) 00:22, 1 September 2015 (CDT)

Forged steel greataxe

Caraamon,

I'm a fairly new adventurer (Circle 19 Barb) I'm fairly curious if you've found, in your experience, that lighter or heavier weapons deal more damage over time. I find that I generally have better luck with lighter 2HE. Is this typical of lower base strength and agility characters? If so, what is the lightest steel greataxe you can forge is it 44, or can there be an 8% reduction on top of that which would bring it to 41 or 40 stones?

-Halgore

It's really not that simple. If you're just moving into a hunting area or are having trouble hitting things, a light balanced weapon is going to excel. If you're already well into your hunting ground, then heavier, more damaging weapons start to pull ahead.
44 is the lightest standard steel greataxe that can be made, but yes, it can be honed further down to 40. -CARAAMON (talk) 23:47, 27 November 2015 (CST)

Player Armorsmiths page

Please add Gwenddolyn to the Player Armorsmiths page. Also is there a Shield Forgers Page? She forges both Metal shields and armor. The link to the page is on the bottom of her profile page, but her name does not appear on the Player Armorsmiths Page. Thanks! Player of Gwenddolyn

Fixed! -CARAAMON (talk) 19:27, 30 November 2015 (CST)
