There are a variety of tools that can be used in crafting, with most (but not all) disciplines using separate tools.
In addition, there are several tools used in related gathering processes, such as skinning and mining.
Traits
Condition
This is how much wear and tear this tool has undergone. Once a tool's condition falls to "in good condition" (89% or below), a loss in effectiveness can occur. You can repair tools by giving them to the clerk inside a Society building, or using a wire brush and oil. See "Repair" below for more detail.
Condition is measured as a percentage range with the worst condition being 0-19% battered and practically destroyed and the best condition being 98-100% in pristine condition.
Workmanship
The workmanship of the tool is how close it is to the template cap, and how much of a bonus or penalty it provides when used to make other things. The quality of the materials, the workmanship of the tools used to make it, the skill of the maker, and the difficulty of the template all affect the final workmanship.
It should be noted that masterfully-crafted indicates that the tool is at the cap of the template for the material it is made of.
Quality is measured on a scale from 1-practically worthless to 12-masterfully-crafted.
Construction / Durability
This trait (sometimes referred to as "Construction" and other times "Durability") represents the rate at which a tool degrades due to wear and tear.
The durability of the tool is dependent on the template, the quality of the workmanship, and the durability of the material it is made of.
Construction is measured on a scale from 1-extremely weak and easily damaged to 18-practically invulnerable to damage.
Speed
This trait represents a percent chance that the tool will give a flat reduction in round time.
The amount a tool speeds things up is based on the template, the quality of the item, and a single material trait that differs for each template. For example, a forging hammer's speed is derived from the hardness of the material it is made from, whereas a set of tongs uses thermal resistance.
Speed is measured on a scale from 1-completely ineffective to 11-tremendously effective:
- completely ineffective
- tremendously ineffective
- extremely ineffective
- very ineffective
- not very effective
- sort of effective
- rather effective
- very effective
- exceptionally effective
- extremely effective
- tremendously effective

Density(metal) | Tools requiring low density(lightness) must be made with an ingot with a density between 3.0 and ~3.7 to achieve max speed for a given material trait above. |
Density(stone) | For stone, 5 density is considered maximally low for calculating speed, while 2.5(pumice) density is too low. |
Storage
There are a few convenient ways to store crafting tools:
- Society buildings can hold up to 10 tools behind the clerk's desk, just read the various signs.
- Rebecho has sold tool belts in his Ties for Things shop that can be used to conveniently TIE tools to.
- Unregistered player-crafted tools can be deeded and stored in a deed register.
- A Kertigen halo is a microtransaction crafting tool stacker that can be used to store tools without taking up inventory space and swap between them as needed.
Repair
To repair a metal tool you need a wire brush and some crafting oil, both purchasable from the Forging Societies. First RUB, SCRAPE or CLEAN the item with your brush, and then POUR oil on it. When a tool drops to "good condition" or worse, there is a notable penalty in their crafting.
Metal tools use the standard equipment condition values.
