Description
The scavenger troll closely resembles its cousin, the wood troll in appearance and ugliness. Hulking and heavily muscled with rough bark-like skin, it stares down at you with scrutinizing eyes as if wondering whether you have anything worthwhile. Bits of tattered cloth and leather cling to its grotesque form in a haphazard parody of clothing, souvenirs scavenged from the bodies of many a luckless adventurer.
In Depth
As of Tuesday Tidings 98 (January 2022), scavenger trolls will no longer steal player weapons. Instead, they absolutely will take (destroy) any coins, gems or treasure boxes they find left lying about -- if you care about loot, don't leave it on the ground!
- Scavenger trolls will collect weapons, ammunition (arrows and bolts), gems, boxes, lockpicks and most random creature drop items.
- They ignore coins and do not pick up their fallen comrades' armor or knapsacks.
- They place most items they collect inside their knapsack.
- The scavenger troll exclaims, "I dinks I like da' lockpick!"
- The scavenger troll bends over and picks up the lockpick. After appraising it, the troll places the lockpick in its frayed knapsack.
- Items too big for their knapsack or weapons they choose to wield will be held in their inventory.
- LOOK TROLL: It is carrying a silverwillow shortbow with a lotusweave-wrapped grip.
- Collected or stolen items held in inventory can be LOOTed from a troll's corpse or recovered by SEARCHing it.
- You search the scavenger troll.
- The scavenger troll was carrying a frayed knapsack, a battered leather coat, some leather greaves, and a silverwillow shortbow with a lotusweave-wrapped grip.
- Other items will have to be recovered from within the troll's knapsack once it drops. LOOKing IN KNAPSACK after each kill is a good way to find missing loot or stolen items.
Area Information
- The hunting area is labeled: A dangling wooden sign reads: "DanJuR: SkAVjnUr TRulLz"
- The Gorbesh Fortress interior (Mess Hall, Meeting Room, Officers' Quarters, Barracks, Storage, and Stable) environments prevent Anther's Call from working (The wood underfoot creaks slightly, but nothing else happens.) on the scavenger trolls found there. The spell functions normally in the exterior (Firepit, Practice Yard) environments.
Skill Caps
- Weapons: skills at 158 rarely miss (05/31/2017). Learning slows significantly at 200. Skills move past dabbling at 220; however, the trolls die quickly (6/19/2020).
- Offensive quickly locked starting at 175, continue to lock quickly at 205. (07/01/2021)
- Defenses: skills at 200 mindlock and allow for safe fighting when engaged with four in melee (05/31/2017). Learning slows significantly by 220. Only after about 30 minutes of melee engagement with four high-attribute (see below) trolls will skills at 230 mindlock and skills at 240 get to about (17/34) learning rate (10/23/2020).
- Defensive skills lock quickly through 205 when dancing with 3, pool slows significantly thereafter.(07/01/2021)
- Debilitation: Mindlocks at 255 (10/29/2020).
- Tactics: Hard cap at 288 with no soft cap - (34/34) at 287; (0/34) at 288 (10/29/2020).
- Locksmithing: Required skill to DISARM / PICK CAREFUL 140 (value pulled from creatures with boxes table). Skill at 200 safely opens boxes and mindlocks using mainly CAREFUL. Required skill to DISARM / PICK BLIND 280, based on "you could do it blindfolded!" DISARM / PICK IDENTIFY result at same skill (04/25/2021). Easily mindlocks using mainly QUICK at 280 thru 300 (05/04/2021). See Equipment/Loot section below for further details.
- Skinning: Consistent perfect parts and quick locking with ARRANGE ALL at 285 (05/31/2017). Continues to mindlock through 336 (11/05/2020).
Special Attacks
Weapon Stealing - Scavenger trolls will no longer snatch weapons held by players.
Special Defenses
