Description
Composed of rock, the gargoyle is a statue come to life at the hand of an ambitious mage. Mostly irate at the world and grumbling to itself about anything from the state of the Elven nation to the weather, the gargoyle does not look so much inclined to fight as it is to curl up in a corner and look frightening. Still, it knows its task as a protector of its creator's domain, and will do its best to keep invaders from treading on its turf.
In Depth
Very similar in most respects to granite gargoyles, quartz gargoyles are more challenging foes. They have higher attributes, are more skilled combatants and seem to hit significantly harder than their granite kin.
Area Information
Quartz gargoyles inhabit the Talas Sagamat mine in Fang Cove. The area is indoors so they start advancing at pole range and usually spawn in packs of two. The area is only accessible by Estate Holders. Although non-estate holders can join the sea mammoth to Fang Cove, only estate holders may leave the building where the mammoth docks. It requires 50 ranks of perception to find the gap in the wall to enter the area.
Skill Caps
- Weapons: skills at 140 hit more often then not (08/02/2016). Learning slows at 185 and soft caps (1/34) at 190 (06/24/2014).
- Defenses: skills in the high 160s to low 170s lock relatively quickly yet allow for safe mining even when engaged with four in melee. Mining dangers pose the greater threat (08/02/2016). Learning slows at 185 and soft caps (1/34) at 190 (06/24/2014). Hard cap (0/34) at or before 250 (11/05/2020).
- Targeted Magic: soft caps (1/34) at or before 220 (11/05/2020).

- Skinning: Mostly fails on skins with single arrange at 135. Consistent perfect skins and quick locking with ARRANGE ALL at 250 (08/02/2016). Can mindlock through 307 (10/15/2020). Learning becomes severely impaired by 324, only reaching (16/34) after 50 arranged skins (10/26/2020) and (6/34) at 336 after the same (11/05/2020).
- Locksmithing: Boxes are tough at 137. Ranger with 110 locksmithing/28 refl/28 agi and using HOL having no trouble with careful picking (12/1/2016). Required skill to DISARM / PICK CAREFUL 135 (value pulled from creatures with boxes table). Skill at 160 safely opens boxes and mindlocks using CAREFUL. Required skill to DISARM / PICK BLIND 250, based on "you could do it blindfolded!" DISARM / PICK IDENTIFY result at same skill (11/14/2020). Easily mindlocks using mainly QUICK at 240 thru 280 (10/26/2020 - 04/27/2021). Continues to mindlock through 300 (05/04/2021). See Equipment/Loot section below for further details.
