Unlike Dergati's sister Kerenhappuch (who Dergati does not resemble but does help frequently), the goddess of nightmares is virtually unseen, but is assumed to be a black-haired and exotic beauty whose only flaw is a third eye in the center of her forehead. She never walks during the day, and it is rumored that if anyone created the creatures known as vampires and werewolves, it was her. She hates the sun, and often is involved in plotting ways to destroy it; some believe she had a hand in the creation of the World Dragon. Her vengeance is savage, and terrible to behold. The unraveler of souls, she kills with slow efficiency, sometimes entire villages. Death by her hand means no resurrection, as many a fool hero who has spoken her name in vain has learned. Since it is impossible to know when she is watching, many fear speaking of her, even at high noon. She is the "all-seeing"; her dark eyes miss nothing. Dergati will do anything for Kerenhappuch, who she considers her equal mentally, and who she admires greatly for her schemes and motives. Dergati is impatient with incompetence, and will, without warning, kill someone who acts foolishly in front of her.

Altar Locations

Clerical Vision Leading to Creation of Altar (In four parts)
In the darkness, you feel walls closing in around you. Ahead in the distance, an exotic, black-haired beauty says, "Yes Sister, I shall wound his pride for you and take what is his. Such weakness deserves my wrath." As the woman holds out her arm, a shrike swoops down and folds its wings as if home.
You see the woman standing before a flat-topped stone altar. An evil smile crosses her face as she places her hands on it, her eyes closing. She mutters some words you don't quite catch and the altar starts to glow. Suddenly, you hear a loud *CRACK* as bolts of lightning fly out of the rock. In a flash, they disappear, replaced by the image of a shrike that illuminates the stone's surface.
You hear the exotic beauty say, "It is done. They shall worship me now or suffer my rage." She turns to a mass of swirling shadows and says, "I shall strengthen your brethren to guard this place. You may toy with all who enter these woods and feed on their souls."
A black-haired beauty stands before a wall of brambles with a gypsy marauder. She tells the gypsy, "You shall no longer enter here. Tell your king, I claim these woods and my pets shall punish all who dare pass. Remember, I am always watching." As the vision fades, you see three flashing eyes that slowly fade from sight.

Artwork and Depictions

As with all the Immortals, various works of art to the goddess can be found throughout the realms.

Raven's Court Statue

Found in the rose garden of the Raven's Court in Crossing:

For each of her three eyes, the goddess Dergati has a massive midnight ruby gracing her face. A long mess of wild untamed hair spills toward the base on which she stands motionless in a beckoning pose. Renowned for her exotic beauty and terrible taste for vengeance, the sly grin upon her smooth, sculpted face hints at Dergati's savage inner chaos steeped deep in Immortal lore.

Temple of the North Wind Frieze

Found NW from the entrance:

Surrounded by a flock of shrikes depicted in mid-flight, a three-eyed woman gazes west towards the sun's final resting place with a sneer twisting her beautiful features. Standing beside her, a sharp-featured man with a weasel perched on his shoulder holds a round object out for her consideration. Etched beneath the scene are the words, "Terror and Pain: the Dragon's Conception."

Ashala'taman Shrine

Found in the floating tower during the periodic event:

An ovoid stele of smooth black basalt stands shoulder-high to an average Human amidst the tangled briars, a bas-relief representation of Dergati centered on its polished surface. A menagerie of butcherbirds and other more nightmarish creatures surrounds the three-eyed goddess on the stone, while a fist-sized hollow furrowed through the top of the shrine glows softly with faint crimson light.
