Spellbook accessories are separate, individual items that can be attached to custom spellbooks. Some accessories (spellbook beading) are purely decorative in nature. Others (shoulder chains, hip-chain harnesses, spellbook locks and bloodlocks, and spellbook sockets) also add functionality. Spellbook accessories are durable items that can be attached or removed at the owner's discretion. However, the spellbook must be closed and held in-hand to do so. Up to three (3) beading embellishments, one (1) shoulder chain or hip-chain harness, one (1) lock or bloodlock and one (1) socket can be attached at one-time. Attached accessories are visible upon a closed spellbook when LOOKed at. When detached from a spellbook, they may be stored in a spellbook case's miscellaneous (herbs, incense, oil, potions, naphtha, burins, talismans and other spell components) compartment. Spellbook accessories are sold at spellbook shops.

Spellbook Beading
A spellbook beading embellishment is a purely decorative spellbook accessory that can be attached to a custom spellbook to modify its appearance. A single spellbook will accept up to three (3) beading embellishments at one-time. Attaching beading will modify a spellbook's look as follows [emphasis added]. The second and third beading will only display if attached.
- LOOK (beaded, closed): The spellbook has been carefully bound in [cover style]. It appears to be [condition] and is beaded along the edges with [first beading], [second beading] and [third beading]. Bold calligraphy [cover writing style] scrawls dramatically over the [cover style's base material] cover.
The first beading, if attached, can also be toggled to with the arrange command. Doing so will display it in the spellbook's TAP appearance.
- TAP: a [cover style] spellbook beaded with some [first beading].
Syntax
The syntax to use spellbook beading follows. When using this syntax, replace '[beading]' with the beading's noun. The word beading (with or without brackets) will not work.
Spellbook beading nouns are typically plural, often unusual, and vary greatly.
PUT [BEADING] ON SPELLBOOK: You carefully bead the cover of your [cover style's base material] spellbook with some [beading]. GET [BEADING] from spellbook: You carefully remove some [beading] from their decorative place on your [cover style's base material] spellbook. PUT [BEADING] IN spellbook CASE: You tuck some [beading] into the miscellaneous component compartment of your spellbook case.

Spellbook Locks
A spellbook lock is a decorative and functional spellbook accessory that can be attached to a custom spellbook to secure it and make it lockable. Spellbook locks are not magical and will not attune or bond to anyone. Once attached to a spellbook, a spellbook lock must be both unlocked and open to be removed. Attaching a spellbook lock will modify a spellbook's look, according to the lock's state, as follows [emphasis added].
- LOOK (lock attached, closed): The spellbook has been carefully bound in [cover style]. It appears to be [condition]. Bold calligraphy [cover writing style] scrawls dramatically over the [cover style's base material] cover.
- (the following applicable description will display below the preceding description)
- (the following applicable description will display below the preceding description)
- (open): The lock is hanging loosely off the back cover of the spellbook.
- (closed): A [spellbook lock] is closed over the spellbook, but is not locked.
- (locked): A [spellbook lock] is closed over the spellbook, locking it shut.
An attached spellbook lock can also be toggled to with the arrange command. Doing so will display it in the spellbook's TAP appearance. The appearance varies according to the lock's state.
- TAP (open): a [cover style] spellbook with an open [spellbook lock] hanging loosely off its cover.
- (closed): a [cover style] spellbook closed tightly with [spellbook lock].
- (locked): a [cover style] spellbook locked securely under the grip of [spellbook lock].
- (closed): a [cover style] spellbook closed tightly with [spellbook lock].
Spellbook Lock Keys
A spellbook lock's actuating spellbook key is retrieved from the lock's keyhole the first time it is attached to a spellbook. Spellbook keys are not magical and will not attune or bond to anyone. Any key from a spellbook lock will actuate its matching lock, regardless if that key originated with that particular lock [1]. For example: any pale silver spellbook key can be used to lock or unlock any spellbook latched shut with a pale silver spellbook lock. Spellbook keys, like spellbook locks, may be stored in a spellbook case's miscellaneous (herbs, incense, oil, potions, naphtha, burins, talismans and other spell components) compartment.
Syntax
The syntax to use spellbook locks and their spellbook keys follows.
PUT LOCK ON SPELLBOOK (first time only): You carefully attach your spellbook lock to the back cover of your spellbook lock [sic][2] and retrieve the spellbook key from its keyhole. (otherwise): You carefully attach your spellbook lock to the back cover of your spellbook lock [sic][3]. CLOSE LOCK on spellbook: You close a [spellbook lock], latching your [cover style's base material] spellbook shut. LOCK SPELLBOOK WITH KEY: You insert a [spellbook key] into the keyhole of the spellbook lock binding the spellbook shut. You turn the key and the lock mechanism locks shut with an audible *click*. UNLOCK SPELLBOOK WITH KEY: You insert a [spellbook key] into the keyhole of the spellbook lock binding the spellbook shut. You turn the key and the lock mechanism unlocks with an audible *click*. PUT KEY IN spellbook CASE: You tuck a [spellbook key] into the miscellaneous component compartment of your spellbook case. OPEN LOCK on spellbook: You open a [spellbook lock], releasing its hold on your [cover style's base material] spellbook. GET LOCK from spellbook: You carefully remove the spellbook lock from its place on the [cover style's base material] spellbook's back cover. PUT LOCK IN spellbook CASE: You tuck an [spellbook lock] into the miscellaneous component compartment of your spellbook case.

Spellbook Bloodlocks
A spellbook bloodlock is a decorative and functional spellbook accessory that can be attached to a custom spellbook to secure it and make it lockable. Unlike spellbook locks, bloodlocks are magical. They are infused with Life magic that allows them to distinguish the difference between the blood of one mortal and that of another. A bloodlook will bond with the first person to rub it, attuning itself to the owner's blood by pricking the finger. Once attuned, a bloodlock will only function for its owner. Only attuned bloodlocks can be attached to a spellbook. Bloodlocks assume a more aggressive security posture with their assigned spellbooks than their non-magical counterparts do. While a spellbook lock is left open when attached to a spellbook, a bloodlock will automatically latch close and lock the spellbook it is attached to. Once attached to a spellbook, a bloodlock must be both unlocked and open to be removed. Attaching a bloodlock to a spellbook will modify the spellbook's look, according to the bloodlock's state, as follows [emphasis added].
- LOOK (bloodblock attached, closed): The spellbook has been carefully bound in [cover style]. It appears to be [condition]. Bold calligraphy [cover writing style] scrawls dramatically over the [cover style's base material] cover.

- (closed): a [cover style] spellbook closed tightly with [bloodlock].
Spellbook Bloodlock Keys
A spellbook bloodlock's actuating spellbook key is retrieved from the lock's mechanism when it is attuned. The first person to rub the bloodlock will receive the key. Bloodlock keys are not magical and will not attune or bond to anyone. Any key from a bloodlock will actuate its matching bloodlock, regardless if that key originated with that particular bloodlock. However, the person using the key must be attuned to the bloodlock for it to work [4]. For example: Augrym may use any obsidian wolf's fang spellbook key to lock or unlock any spellbook latched shut with a gleaming obsidian wolf bloodlock attuned to Augrym, but only those attuned to him. Even with a matching key, Augrym cannot unlock a bloodlock attuned to someone else. Spellbook keys, like bloodlocks, may be stored in a spellbook case's miscellaneous (herbs, incense, oil, potions, naphtha, burins, talismans and other spell components) compartment.
Syntax
The syntax to use spellbook bloodlocks and their spellbook keys follows.
>FOCUS BLOODLOCK You focus your magical senses on a [bloodlock]. The [bloodlock] has a definite magical pattern. You recognize the pattern as a manifestation of Life magic. You sense that the bloodlock can detect the subtle differences between the blood of one mortal and that of another. (unattuned): It has not been attuned to anyone yet.
>RUB BLOODLOCK (unattuned) You rub your finger over the chalky white stone inset just above the keyhole in the [bloodlock]. Without warning, a small needle jabs out of the keyhole and pricks your finger. Blood begins to flow, tainting the color of the stone to a deep crimson hue. You strangely feel more attuned to the bloodlock. Suddenly a [corresponding] spellbook key pops out of the lock mechanism with a distinct *click*, landing in your [free] hand.
FOCUS BLOODLOCK (attuned): It seems to be attuned to you. RUB BLOODLOCK (attuned): You rub your finger over the blood-red stone inset in a [bloodlock]. PUT BLOODLOCK ON SPELLBOOK: [applicable bloodlock's unique attachment message]. UNLOCK SPELLBOOK WITH KEY: You insert a [spellbook key] into the keyhole of the [bloodlock] binding the spellbook shut. CLOSE BLOODLOCK on spellbook: [applicable bloodlock's unique closing message]. LOCK SPELLBOOK WITH KEY: You insert a [spellbook key] into the keyhole of the [bloodlock] binding the spellbook shut. Spellbook Sockets
A spellbook socket is a decorative and functional spellbook accessory that can be attached to a custom spellbook to allow the spellbook to hold a large decoration or magical ward on its cover. Although designed to hold magical items, spellbook sockets themselves are not magical. A spellbook socket will only accept an item while the socket is both empty and attached to a spellbook. Also, it can only be removed from a spellbook while empty. Attaching a spellbook socket will modify a spellbook's look, according to the socket's state, as follows [emphasis added].
- LOOK (socket attached, closed): The spellbook has been carefully bound in [cover style]. It appears to be [condition]. Bold calligraphy [cover writing style] scrawls dramatically over the [cover style's base material] cover.

Kuldaez Crystals
A kuldaez crystal is a decorative and functional spellbook accessory that can be inserted into a spellbook socket attached to a custom spellbook to magically ward the spellbook. The hafaltu-veined kuldaez crystal activates on command to ward against foul weather (rain and snow). The other kuldaez crystals (flame red, golden and ice blue) activate responsively to ward against theft. A hafltu-veined kuldaez crystal cannot be removed from a spellbook's socket while its ethereal shield is active. Inserting a kuldaez crystal into a spellbook's socket will modify the spellbook's look as follows [emphasis added].
- LOOK (filled socket, closed): The spellbook has been carefully bound in [cover style]. It appears to be [condition]. Bold calligraphy [cover writing style] scrawls dramatically over the [cover style's base material] cover.
