Description
Although superficially resembling a gigantic mouse, the mechanical mouse is clearly a machine. It moves, about on large wheels set underneath the dome-like metallic body that emits constant machine sounds.
In Depth
- WARNING! Special materials introduced at the Drathrok's Duskruin 422 event are needed to effectively fight these creatures.
- These creatures will flex (i.e., update their skills and stats) when they attack a target or are attacked. See Flex Mechanics.
Area Information
The giant mechanical mouse hunting area entrance is a narrow trail located on the Northen Trade Route (NTR), SW, S, S, SE from the forest path leading to the faenrae reaver hunting area. GO TRAIL to enter. The hunting grounds consist of the following areas (mice spawn in all rooms).
- Deep Forest, Dilapidated Cabin [Outside] Exits: GO TRAIL to the NTR. GO CABIN to go inside.
- Dilapidated Cabin [Inside, Structure] Exits: GO DOORWAY to go outside. GO TRAPDOOR to the basement.
- Dilapidated Cabin, Basement [Inside, Underground] Exits: north, south. CLIMB STEPS to the cabin.
- Dilapidated Cabin, Tunnel [Inside, Underground]. Exiting the basement to the north the tunnel runs clockwise N, NE, SE, SW, SW, NW, and then N, reentering the basement from the south. The tunnel can also be traveled in a counterclockwise direction exiting the basement to the south and reentering from the north.
The hunting area is not suitable for lumberjacking or mining.
Special Attacks
Giant mechanical mice will ignore and bypass attempts to block and/or parry with equipment (shields, weapons, or parry sticks) not made from haledroth, fulginode, crystal-bone, or finivire.
- Items must be atleast 67% special material (see discussion).
- Armor need not be made of special material.
Special Defenses
APPRAISE CAREFUL info: The mouse appears to be extremely immune to most materials.
- Weapons not made from haledroth, fulginode, crystal-bone, or finivire are highly ineffective at damaging giant mechanical mice. Strikes with them mostly result in glancing, brushing, ineffective, gentle, harmless, and similar blows. Weapons must be at least 67% special material and do better damage with higher purity (see discussion).
- Giant mechanical mice are effectively immune to targeted spells cast without a TM focus made from haledroth, fulginode, crystal-bone, or finivire. For example:
- The ball of fire explodes harmlessly against a giant mechanical mouse's body. Resulting in, The mechanical mouse has no injuries.
- The ball of fire explodes harmlessly against a giant mechanical mouse's body. Resulting in, The mechanical mouse has no injuries.
- Debilitation spells are unaffected by this material immunity.
Attributes
APPRAISE CAREFUL:
- (when NOT flexed): You aren't sure enough to venture a guess on its abilities.
- (when flexed): Results vary.
•GM Javac confirmed Mechanical Mice use raw ranks, not buffed ranks when flexing. ~2022-02-03, Discord
Body Parts
- ARRANGE INFO: The mouse cannot be skinned, so you can't arrange it either.
Messaging
- Spawn: The sound of steady ticking precedes a giant mechanical mouse as it enters the area.
- Entrance: A giant mechanical mouse scampers into the area, wire whiskers bristling.
- Exit: A giant mechanical mouse skitters <direction>, whipping its metallic tail in agitation.
- Death1: A loud clang reverberates as a giant mechanical mouse explodes in a storm of metallic cogs, gears, and fragments.
- Decay: A gust of wind scatters the disordered pile of metal fragments away.
Recall Knowledge
A giant mechanical mouse appears to be held together with mechanical though tenuous joints, powered with steam, and given a rudimentary intelligence through some sort of ancient magic.
You recall everything noteworthy about a giant mechanical mouse... which is apparently nothing.
