Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on who you ask) the deadly creatures that inhabit M'riss and Mer'Kresh attract all manner of powerful adventurers who both help and harm the local population in almost equal measures. In the year 392 AV one such man happened upon Vashir and his father while the two were bringing their day's catch into town. Though his fine clothing and equipment made it painfully obvious he could afford to buy as many fish as he desired, the man chose instead to steal one, brazenly plucking it away without so much as a word to the fisherman or his son. Outraged, Vashir turned to confront the man, however his father (knowing better than to confront such a person) pulled the boy away from the conflict and told him to keep him mouth shut.

Early Life

Born into poverty on the floating city of Mer'Kresh, Vashir grew up as the third son of a fisherman with almost nothing to set him apart from any other child. Indeed, the only thing remotely unusual about him was his luck - where most of his siblings eventually fell prey to the hazards of daily life on Mer'Kresh, he always demonstrated an uncanny ability to avoid harm. This only encouraged his already powerful sense of adventure, and by the time he reached his early teens he had long since begun to grow restless and dissatisfied with his apparent destiny as a poor fisherman.

Having seen this the thief laughed and held the fish out at arm's length. "You want this back, kid?" he asked tauntingly. "You can have it when you can take it from me." When Vashir and his father failed to respond he continued, "That's what I thought. Get out of my sight, trash."

Though his memories of that day have faded over time, the lesson Vashir learned remains crystal clear in his mind: Those with power make the rules, and those without must follow them. Shortly after the encounter with the thief Vashir chose to abandon his family on Mer'Kresh, severing all ties with them and making his way to the mainland to seek a new life - a life where he could be the one making the rules.

The Barbarian Guild

Even before his arrival in Rivercrossing Vashir knew that the surest way to strengthen himself was to join one of Elanthia's powerful guilds, but choosing which to dedicate himself to proved difficult. He was initially fascinated by the raw power wielded by mages, but soon discovered that he had absolutely no magical talent and nowhere near enough patience to overcome this limitation with practice. His frustration with magic was only increased by the realization that mages by definition rely on an external force for most of their power - to the young Vashir this was unacceptable. In the end, with no knowledge of the Thief Guild's existence he took the only real choice available to him: the Barbarian Guild.

Since joining the guild at age fifteen Vashir has distinguished himself primarily through his devotion to training, which scarcely wavered even with the outbreak of the war with Lyras and her undead horde. Early mistakes have slowed his rate of advancement considerably, but he is at this time one of Elanthia's deadliest fighters.

He is also one of the few Barbarians to favor heavy plate armor.

The Undead War

Vashir has played only a very minor role in the war with Lyras and her minions - early participation resulted in his swift defeat, and his recent return to Mer'Kresh has removed him from the daily struggles on the mainland. Though he has made his way back to Crossing to repel undead incursions in the past, he refuses to do so now after being twice arrested for months-old minor shoplifting charges while risking life and limb to protect the city.

Personal Info

Vashir is known to keep to himself for the most part, rarely choosing to involve himself in the business of others. Exceptions to this include debates on the merits of the Inquisition and the PHA, both of which he fully supports. He is also known to keep a list of the names of those who have defeated him in combat so that he may seek them out after honing his skills to challenge them again. He has a great deal of respect for Everild, Kuniyo, and Trothfang, but exclusively seeks the favor of Eu to cheat death.

He has had numerous romantic interests over the years (sometimes simultaneously) but eventually found his soulmate in Laniea Azra, and the two remain happily bonded to this day. He has one son, Keraen, and two adopted daughters, Rineta and Mahya.
