During the last years of the Empire, around 280 BL, there came what was called the Kin Strife - struggles to determine who would be the emperor. This tumultuous period came to a head around 239 BL when the Elven Lord Teiro conquered Throne City in a bid to seize power. Lanival joined the fight against Teiro with other factions and in 231 BL, the war ended with the death of Teiro during a great battle.

The next year, 230 BL, the lands of the Empire were divided into the Five Provinces we know today: Zoluren (tr: First Land), Therengia, Ilithi, Qi'Reshalia, and Forfedhdar.
