The 426 World Jousting Tournament is the fifth worldwide tournament hosted by various organizations within Elanthia, including official orders as well as the Lorethew Mentor Society.

Contestants qualify for one of six skill-based divisions. Winners of each qualifier receive a prize and are eligible to joust in the championship.

Each winner of their bracket this year will receive a medal for that bracket. With grand prizes given at the Championship.

A platinum jousting medal hanging from a black silk ribbon. An exquisite relief upon the gleaming medal details the image of an imposing dragon clenching a lance and shield as fire billows from its nostrils. A flowing banner surrounds the design, etched with a rewarding inscription.

Rules

  • Contestants may compete in any qualifier regardless of citizenship. (If a contestant fails to qualify, he may try again at the next qualifier.)
  • Contestants will verify their skill in polearms and shield usage via the TELLEXP command. They will be placed in the appropriate division based on a formula of these two skills.
  • No spells of any kind are allowed to be in effect. (This is for simplicity, so that the hosts don't have to waste time arguing or consulting Elanthipedia to determine which spells might affect the outcome.)
  • No stat or skill buffs are allowed. This includes (but is not limited to) spells, supernatural abilities, Empathic links, and constellation jewelry.
  • Anyone found to be cheating will be automatically disqualified.
  • No mulligans. If a contestant jumps off his horse to avoid impact (because he is not properly equipped), he forfeits the match.
  • To avoid the appearance of impropriety at qualifiers, members of a host order will ideally compete in a qualifier that is hosted by another order. If this is not an option, the host order member's ranks must be verified by someone outside the host order.

The contestants will joust until one of the has earned a total of five points.

Result Points
lance breaks on shield* 1 point
lance strikes torso 2 points
lance strikes head 3 points
opponent is unseated/unhorsed 5 (instant victory)

*Shield strikes do not count unless the lance breaks. |-

Division 1 (0-100 ranks) Vivalynn Dhalinar Akhaal Horse

Division 5 (701-999 ranks) Hanryu a triple-bladed tyrium spetum with a flamewood haft
Division 6 (1000+ ranks) Aylay an ornate gold and ebony wristcuff
  • Prizes:

- an Akhaal horse that is sixteen hands high with a red coat spangled with tiny white spots that are concentrated over the back and hips. It has a reddish-brown mane and tail. The mare has a small white mark centered on the forehead.

- a triple-bladed tyrium spetum with a flamewood haft

LOOK: The base of the flamewood haft is expertly carved into the shape of an icicle that twists its way towards the blades. The single-edged tyrium blades are carefully forged into flame-shaped prongs that form the business end of the formidable weapon.

- a dull metallic serpent earcuff formed into an ouroboros

LOOK: The tail of the earcuff is meant to pierce the ear's lobe, while the rest wraps behind the upper ear, allowing the serpent's maw to grasp it's tail, roughly where the ear canal would be.

- an ornate gold and ebony wristcuff

LOOK: The gleaming metal of the wristcuff is offset by the dully polished ebony, while deep etchings are carved and painted a dull grey in subtle contrast to the dark wood.

- an Elven gold crown of vines displaying a massive green dwalgim

LOOK: White Elven gold has been exquisitely formed into a circle of vines, with tiny emeralds set into the entirety of its circumference. The trilliant-cut dwalgim stands triumphantly at the front of the piece, cradled by a setting of leaves. The crown often takes on a greenish hue as light attempts to pass through the gem's smoky coloration, complemented by the brilliant sheen of the smaller gems flanking it.

- a triple-reinforced vardite pavise shield etched with the image of a lion

LOOK: Artfully using polishing and etching, a lion's face is captured in a ferocious roar across the front of the dull orange shield. The image is accentuated by the jagged edges of the shield which forms the beast's mane.
