Tezirite. One third of the semisphere (part of the Deceiver Device) circulated among scholars and was thought stolen, but he had it.

Moon Mage Guildleader in Shard who pretended to die. "Died" shortly after Jonela's coronation. Was replaced by Gylwyn as guildleader. At one time, refused a spot on the council and, instead, requested a guildleader spot (was awarded Shard). Friend of Erzebet Crowther and Tiv.

Born to a wealthy family in Therengia. Excelled in school, particularly in oratory/arguing. Got a job working for a merchant prince in Illithi where he met his close friend Kendadee, a halfling Moon Mage. Preferred study of rare artifacts to that of the stars.

In his explorations with Kendadee explorations, they found (309 AV) an old library with a copy of a pre-Empire grimoire known as "Thee Mottl'd Tyxte." Kendadee urged waiting to open it, but could not convince Mortom. In the craziness that followed, only Mortom survived.

Was present at obelisk event under Moon Mage guildhall in Crossings. So were Erzebet, Taramaine, Grell, and Shanrolias. He activated a device (the key, semisphere, or obelisk?) at Taramaine's insistence. When the device was assembled in the presence of the obelisk, something happened and shadowmaster(s) arrived. The Y'Shai were still new and this was their first fight. The semispheres were lunar in origin.

Description

Though an elderly Human, Guildleader Mortom Saist looks remarkably good for his age. His thinning grey hair is kept neatly slicked back in a small ponytail, and his pale skin is marked only by a few wrinkles. It's clear that Mortom is aware of his better-than-average appearance, for he occasionally pulls a hand mirror from his crimson robes, or gazes longingly into any of the varied ones that hang nearby.

• KSSARH: Mortom grins and says, "He is quite a character, isn't he? I hear he has stopped throwing people out of windows. I'm sure that was a hard habit for him to break." He chuckles at his own joke briefly, then glances into the mirror on his desk.

• TIV: Morton grows quiet a moment and says, "I don't think anyone realizes just how much Tiv has given up for our guild. For a man with such a drive to reach personal perfection, it is no small cost to dedicate all his time to the guild, rather than to introspection and meditation."

• LOMTAUN: Mortom says, "I was surprised to hear he had accepted a Guildhall. He always liked to travel so much. Of course, if he wants to see the world now, all he has to do is step out on that balcony of his."

• GYLWYN: Mortom looks thoughtful for a moment, then replies, "Well, I don't know about all the ruckus that occurred while I was sleeping, but she left the Guildhall here in good order when I took over. She's up in Riverhaven now, greeting new students and showing them the basics."

• SNOW: Mortom smiles and replies, "I adore Snow. She is a lady in the truest sense of the word." He winks and adds, "As long as you stay on the right side of the law, of course."

• MACFRAE: Mortom frowns, "I don't know what happened to him, but he feels a sadness that I think echoes my own loss."

• TOMMA: Mortom nods, "If everyone loved what they do as much as she, Elanthia would be a better place."

• SOTHAVI: Mortom grins, "Oh, I like Sothavi quite a bit. Social responsibilities being what they are, it's nice having someone around who can make me laugh."

• T'KIEL: Mortom replies, "Well, she's a Barbarian. I suppose she fits the mold well enough. I certainly would not want to upset her unless the moons were full and in conjunction, and even then I'd worry."

• MORTOM: Mortom smiles at you and says, "It's good to be back, thank you."

• MELEAR: Mortom says, "It's a shame she gets out so little. Most of her time is spent keeping that storm west of here from getting out of control."

• SAISHLA: Mortom looks at you questioningly and asks, "Who?"

• RAELEM: Mortom says, "I hear she had a touch of the adventure-seeker in her once." He grins at himself in his mirror, "Of course, I have heard the same about myself, too."

• AUGRYM: Mortom shrugs, "I do not really know him, to be honest. He rarely leaves Chyolvea Tayeu'a."

• K'MIRIEL: Mortom says, "Ah, a lady of mercy, she is. The life of a healer is a thankless one. The life of a teacher is doubly thankless."
