Focus
Displays concentration, examines objects for magical properties, checks cambrinth, or locates a bonded spouse.
FOCUS You see: Concentration: <current> Max: <maximum> FOCUS <cambrinth item> You see: You focus your magical senses on <item>.   The <item> pulses faintly with Elemental energy. You clearly perceive 5 mana streams bound within the <item>.   [You can use INVOKE to activate the mana held in this device.]   Roundtime: 2 sec. FOCUS <runestone> You see: You focus your magical senses on a dark azurite runestone.   Though not actively magical, the runestone is made out of a material that resists the flow of mana. Tiny tunnels and furrows are present in the runestone, which form the shape of a spell pattern.   You recognize the pattern of the Shadows spell.   You should get five more spells out of the runestone before it wears out. FOCUS SPOUSE — spouse in the same room You see: You focus on your love for <spouse>, but since <he/she> is standing beside you, nothing much happens. Spouse sees: <Name> smiles foolishly at you. FOCUS SPOUSE — spouse can be located You see: You focus on your love for <spouse>, and see...   <The spouse's room description> Spouse sees: You feel a sudden warmth, as though a loving hand brushed your shoulder.

Syntax

• FOCUS

Displays current and maximum concentration.

• FOCUS <OBJECT>

Examines an object for magical patterns or properties. The information revealed depends on the object and the character's Arcana skill.

• FOCUS CAMBRINTH

Examines all worn and held cambrinth at once.

• FOCUS SPOUSE

Attempts to locate a bonded spouse.

• FOCUS HELP

Displays brief usage information.

The spouse line is shown to bonded characters.

By itself, the focus verb can be used to display some information about your character and <his/her> bonded spouse, if <he/she> has one.  However, the main use of FOCUS is to examine the magical properties of objects.

  Syntax:
    FOCUS - See current concentration points.
    FOCUS SPOUSE - Locate a bonded spouse in the realm.
    FOCUS [TARGET] - View magical properties of and/or link to target.

Notes

• Focusing on an object can identify whether it has a magical pattern and may reveal details such as the spell in a runestone, remaining uses, active magical effects, or the amount and type of mana in cambrinth. The exact result is specific to the object and may require sufficient Arcana skill.
• A focusable object generally must be held, on the ground, or placed on something on the ground. Examining an object on the ground or on another ground object normally requires a free hand; this is not a general requirement for an item already held. Some worn items can be focused on, including cambrinth when the character has enough Arcana skill; other worn items may be too clumsy to examine. An item packed inside a carried container cannot normally be focused on.
• A room that interferes with magical senses prevents magical examination. Being unconscious, stunned, webbed, or in roundtime can also prevent use of the targeted form.
• FOCUS SPOUSE is available to bonded spouses and consumes concentration, with repeated attempts costing more for a short period. A successful locate displays the spouse's room. Distance and effects that prevent locating can instead provide only a direction, report that the spouse is too far away, or block the vision.
• Some individual items define their own FOCUS effect. A ritual focus is activated with INVOKE, and APPRAISE FOCUS and magical RESEARCH are separate systems.
