Prediction

Overview

Prediction is a Moon Mage"Moon mage" is not in the list (None, Bard, Barbarian, Cleric, Empath, Moon Mage, Necromancer, Paladin, Ranger, Thief, ...) of allowed values for the "Guild association is" property.-only ability which allows us alter our effective ranks in certain skills (Skills which we are unable to learn are not effected as far as I know) based on our observations of the heavens and our effective ranks in Astrology skill. Of course if you try to use this skill indoors you better be at a telescope or you will fail to make a observation.

• Starting out a player can use two specific types of predictions without having to make use of tools.
  • PREDICT WEATHER is useful to us since we cannot make observations so easily when our skys are completely overcast, or if you happen to use a musical instrument then you will know ahead of time if you should pack up so that you do not damage your equipment.
  • PREDICT FUTURE {Character} {Skill set} is used in order to give prediction of a specific skill set (Offense, Defense, Lore, Survival, Magic).
    • A player must at least make an observation of a specific heavenly body in order to make use of an observation. Please refer to a star chart or your own observations of the stars in order to get an idea of what will be effected during a prediction.

Align Ability

The ALIGN verb can be learned after a Moon Mage advances to the 4th circle however it involves a quest in order to make it useful.

• Once learned a character should ALIGN {Skill} in order to make a more accurate prediction involving the skill.
• The Moon Mage can also choose to curse a target purposely by using ALIGN.

Tools

• Divination Bones

You recognize the bones as a divination tool used by Moon Mages and preferred by the Skindancers and other Nomads of the Arid Steppe. Shamans and seers use the arrangement of the bones as they fall on the ground to predict what will come. First created by the shamans of the Arid Steppe as a means to scry the future, carved and enchanted bones have been used for countless years and are among the oldest known type of divination tool. Part astrology, and part mysticism, there are some Nomads who believe that the power of the bones lies in their connection with the dead, while others insist that it is the enchantment process, through which the bones are imbued with magic properties, that gives them their unique properties. A seer, properly trained to observe celestial bodies, tosses the bones on the ground before them and reads their seemingly random placement, often with uncanny insight.

• Sandstone Bowl

If memory serves, this bowl is tool used by Moon Mages to scry into the future. You remember that bowls carved with such sigils are divination tools used by Moon Mages and preferred by those mages that call themselves the Prophets of G'Nar Peth. Traditionally carved from a single piece of sandstone and etched with the mysterious sigils only Moon Mages seem to understand, scrying bowls are used by mages trained in astrology as a tool for divination. It is said that the first bowls were filled with water from the Garden of G'Nar Peth, though whether that is a legend held by the Prophets themselves or merely a tale told by outsiders is unclear.

• Celestial Charts

A collection of star maps, charts, calculations and algorithms, some vellum celestial charts are used by Moon Mages as a divination tool. Most often used by those of the Celestial Compact, the charts take an unusually logical approach to fortunetelling. By studying the current positions of heavenly bodies and plotting out their course, mages are able to determine how the movements of the stars will affect future events.

• Sapphire Prism

Favored by the Monks of the Crystal Hand, the prism is a divination tool used by Moon Mages. As the prism spins on its chain, the mage interprets the patterns of colors and fractures to determine what the future holds. It is fitting that a group devoted to perfection and the identification of personal flaws would excel at predicting what is to come by studying how such colors and fractures echo from the hidden flaws of the crystal.

• Ornate Mirror

Designed after the legendary mirror used by Tezirah, this mirror is a scrying tool used by Moon Mages. Detractors claim that all such mirrors should be destroyed, some because they worry that Tezirah went mad while scrying, others simply to remove the Guild's association with the magess. Others are quick to disagree, pointing out that the mirrors themselves hold the same properties as other divination tools, while some, most notably the mages who call themselves the Progeny of Tezirah, consider their use to be a show of respect for a mage who, despite her legendary actions, was by all accounts a most skilled and powerful seer.

Method of divination that developed out of a card game; favored by the Gypsies of Fortune's Path. No recall available.

• Once a Moon Mage advances to the 10th circle they are capable of learning how to do an Event Prediction. This ability can be taught to you by other Moon Mages who have learned to do an event Prediction.
• Commands: STUDY sky, Predict Event {Character}
• It should be common knowledge that predictions are all aided by spell preperation such as Clear Vision, Piercing Gaze, etc. in order to get a clear view of the heavenly bodies.
  • It is also possible that event predictions are more likely at night then during day however I lack the information to assume it.
  • Event Predictions should also work Scholarship skill to a certain extent.
