Green blood worms are found in the crocodile marsh south of the Faldesu River and the crocodile hunting outside Throne City. They cause vitality and fatigue damage over time, along with small wounds.
These parasites can be prevented by wearing armor. Exposed areas can all have parasites attach, although only the legs will be attached to if standing. Because it is water, you can move prone through both areas and have them attach to any body part.
Description
You see a green blood worm.

2008 Update
From the release of these bloodsuckers until 6/17/08, the crocodile marsh was hazardous to hunters and empaths alike due to the ability of the parasites to latch onto any part of you in the water. This was problematic for characters that did not have the necessary First Aid skill, which is estimated to be around 75 lessons.
On 6/17/08, GM Dartenian made a handy change so that armor will now prevent the worms from attaching to you. If you wish to ‘hunt’ them still, just remove your armor and wade/swim around. The original post can be viewed here, with a copy below for an archive.
Croc Swamp Blood Worm Update · on 6/17/2008 5:16:09 PM
Heyo!
The crocodile swamp near Riverhaven has been updated to make it a bit more hunter friendly. While they still infest the swamp, blood worms are no longer capable of bypassing that stuff we call armor. As long as no exposed (unarmored) body parts end up in the water, a hunter should be safe from blood worms.
This is live in Prime and Platinum. TF will follow this weekend.

Skill Range
While it appears that all parasites will continue to teach to high ranks, possibly indefinitely, each one varies slightly as far as base skill. From this, one can also assume that there is a soft cap where they stop teaching 'at level'. The following table presents information on those skill ranges:
base skill needed | soft cap | still teaches at | |
---|---|---|---|
Empathy skill | n/a | ? | ? |
First Aid skill | 75 | ? | ? |
Animal Lore skill | n/a | n/a | 54 |
Skinning skill | n/a | ? | ? |
