Appearance

You see Slum Lord Fiasko Blackrat, Immigrant of Ratha, a S'Kra Mur.
An Rathan-style uaro's'sugi weighted by dark-jeweled ends is folded to obscure Fiasko's face, hiding all but a narrow strip of ghostly green scales around his eyes.
He has a partially severed tail.

He is wearing a black bowler hat, a pompous smuggler's rat, a gaudy counterfeit gamantang, a gem-studded money bag, a dark-jeweled nightsilk sash with a skull-gripped gentleman's cane hanging from it and some tasteful serpentine-hide dress shoes with stylish shadesatin laces.

History

Rathan Years

  • Born into the prominent S'kra Mur Gamant Lisska'Vran of Ratha. Was known as a mischievous youth who constantly bucked authority.
  • Suffered an unknown "accident" as a child resulting in a partially severed tail. (Even to this day, he spews random and unlikely stories whenever questioned on the deformation)
  • Shunned from his Ru'at and Gamant as a half-Smozh. He was branded as Fiasko and stripped of his lineage and name.
  • Survived in the gutters of the Neh docks where he developed a reputation for his more nefarious traits along with a horrid sense of humor.
  • A regular with the Malk'smo Constables and the Reshalian Prison System, he eventually received a lengthy prison sentence, organized a jail break, and stowed away on a merchant ship sailing for Zoluren.

Becoming the Blackrat

  • Seeing the Crossing as a ripe target, Fiasko immediately began working the streets, taking on the alias "The Blackrat". He carved out a block on the city's West side, claiming it as his turf.
  • These shenanigans quickly caught the eye of the Shadows. He was thugged and drug before the Sly who presented two options: Join the Guild or be fed to the rats.
  • Never one to make the smart decision, Fiasko called Kalag's "bluff" - resulting in a viscous beating and a cage deep in the Crossing sewers infested with starving rats.
  • Weeks later, two Enforcers returned to the cage dragging a new "rat food candidate" to the cage. To their surprise they found a grinning Fiasko, emaciated but quite alive, petting a lithe black rat which sat comfortably on his shoulder.
  • Impressed with his resilience, the Sly offered Fiasko an apprenticeship directly under his tutelage (which he prudently accepted).
  • Over time the Brothers and Sisters of the Guild become his Ru'at, earning his unquestionable loyalty.

Altered Items

a gem-studded money bag

  • Look: Crushed blue velvet flows in luxurious folds, encrusted with a multitude of sapphires, amethysts, and rubies in a swirling, abstract pattern. The profusion of gemstones juxtaposed against the dark, fluid cloth creates a rippling appearance when struck by light as if reflecting upon moving water. An unobtrusive onyx clasp hinged with blackened steel secures the flap when closed.
  • Info: Original item: Multi-strapped carryall, designed by Kingdok

a gaudy counterfeit gamantang

  • Look: Contrasting the luxurious purple fabric, midnight-black wildlace winds like a serpent about the wearer's arms and shoulders, bearing the repeating pattern of daggers accented by tiny crystalline droplets. Generous hems have been adorned with an assortment of gemstones in a blatant attempt at extravagance. The innermost layer is composed of a deep green swath of silk, intended for both comfort and to muffle the sound of any items concealed beneath.
  • Read: "Designed by Hashaal" (reference to Hashal, owner of Hashal's Haven)
  • Info: Original item: austere scalene gamantang with a high collar, altered by the Spidersworn at Hollow Eve Festival 436

a tattoo of the words -Reshalian Prison System- in faded ink above the numbers 06-93-005 on his neck.

a pompous smuggler's rat

  • Look: Two sanguine-hued jewels, pushed deep into the rodent's eye sockets, glimmer darkly as if scrutinizing any who dare pass by. Large claws allow the rat to perch on the shoulder when worn, providing an elevated vantage point to peer down upon its subjects. The lithe body is covered in silky black fur which appears far too luscious for such a creature, while its long tail swings about in a seemingly annoyed fashion in response to even the slightest movement.

a Rathan-style uaro's'sugi weighted by dark-jeweled ends

  • Look: Woven in a manner common to the isle of Ratha, the garment is tailored to drape about the head and neck in a style intended to protect against the brutal weather of the open sea or the prying eyes of the city guards. A multitude of lustrous gemstones provide weight to the trailing end, arranged in the traditional sharmiit'mhhg style. Fringing the intricate pattern is a faded patch bearing the crest of Gamant Lisska'Vran.

a skull-gripped gentleman’s cane mottled by dark jewels

  • Look: A trio of adderwood saplings contort about each other like writhing serpents to form this sinuous cane. Bound by polished tel'athi bands, the oil-treated shaft has been festooned with dark jewels which seem to exploit even the slightest opportunity to reflect light. A gruesome but well-preserved cobra skull serves as an unorthodox handle, fanged jaw agape as if frozen while lunging for prey. The opposing end terminates in an intricately detailed ferrule formed in the likeness of a serpent's tail.

an old jailer's key ring packed full of keys

  • Look: Mundane in appearance, the aged key ring looks like any other used to lock delinquents and scalawags into dingy cells. It has ironically been repurposed to conceal locksmithing tools with very little change to the original design. A locking mechanism embossed with the crest of Gamant Zsikiel prevents the key ring from opening unexpectedly and tumbling it’s contents to the ground. Keys of assorted shapes and sizes dangle from the ring, swaying and clanging together with the slightest motion.

dark-jeweled nightsilk sash

  • Look: Flowing nightsilk dyed in smoky hues conceals twin cobra-fanged skulls affixed to a leathery belt. Meant to secure a weapon's hilt between the gaping serpent jaws, each skull provides a means to flaunt the wearer's arsenal at an optimal angle for an expeditious draw. Extending downward from the skulls' lower jaws, braided leather tassels suspend flawless dark jewels which sway in reaction to even the most insignificant movement.
