History
Early Life and Inspiration
As the daughter of an influential trader, Erisande spent several years on the roads. In her young life, she traveled across Elanthia in one of her mother's caravans. On the long journeys she kept a myriad of books and would read for hours along the bumpy roads.
During the war with Lyras, the trading routes had to change to avoid the swarms of undead plaguing the common roads. Still, the carnage could often be seen by the teenaged elf from the back of the caravans. Frightened and feeling helpless, she began to read history books on war. Her attention fell upon the story of Nissa. The story awakened her imagination and sparked great interest. Even while Nissa worked to advise Lanival and heal those in need, always she preached that bloodshed should be avoided. The truth of it rang in Erisande's heart, and so she decided when she came of age she would become an Empath.
First Years in the Guild
Erisande’s first steps as an Empath were taken in the bustling heart of the Crossing, a city that felt impossibly large after the quiet roads of her childhood. The guild hall itself was warm and fragrant with herbs, but that gentleness lived alongside a constant undercurrent of chaos — people arriving breathless and wounded, apprentices hurrying past with bandages and tinctures, the steady hum of voices asking for help. She learned quickly, adjusting to the rhythm of healing in a place where need never truly paused. The noise and urgency overwhelmed her at first, yet she found a quiet purpose in the work, and those early years shaped her gently, giving her a sense of direction she had never quite found before.
Unfortunately, her mother’s letters grew increasingly insistent, each one threaded with guilt and worry until Erisande finally set aside her empathic duties and returned to Leth Deriel. She hadn’t wanted to leave the work that had begun to shape her, but family obligation tugged harder than her own desires. Back home, her days settled into quiet routines: tending the gardens, helping with the ebb and flow of merchants, and offering the small, steady kindnesses she couldn’t quite stop giving.
Her mother, ever hopeful, tried to nudge her toward suitable matches, but Erisande deflected each attempt with gentle firmness. The years drifted by in a kind of soft suspension — not unhappy, but not truly hers. And when she finally left again, she carried with her a quieter heart and hands that had grown used to tending flowers instead of wounds. Returning to the guild would mean relearning the rhythms of empathy, rediscovering the work she had once stepped away from, and finding her way back to the calling she had never truly forgotten.
Return to the Crossing
After more than four decades in Leth Deriel, Erisande finally slipped free of her mother’s heavy‑handed hopes and returned to the Crossing, drawn back to the Empath Guild with equal parts longing and uncertainty. The familiar halls felt different after so many years — the scents sharper, the pace quicker, the work heavier in her hands than she remembered. She moved quietly through those first days, relearning the rhythms she had once known so well. And then, almost before she had found her footing again, she met Harkour — a chance encounter that would shift the course of her life in ways she could not yet imagine.
Their first real conversation took place in the quiet fields beyond the city, where wolves circled and talk came easily. He was young, earnest, and thoughtful in a way that surprised her — a Paladin with a gentle philosophy, speaking of balance and understanding even as he trained with steel in hand. Their exchange was light at first, threaded with humor and small confessions, but beneath it ran a quiet recognition. He treated her with a kind of respectful warmth, listening to her stories and offering his own with an openness that felt rare. In his company, she found not only a grateful patient but a companion whose presence made the unfamiliar feel welcoming again, and whose kindness lingered with her long after they parted.
Renewal and Growth
Not long after settling back into her work, Guildfest arrived in Therenborough, and the excitement of it stirred something bright in Erisande. She had not attended a proper festival in decades, and the whirl of music, lantern‑light, and crowded stalls felt like stepping back into a part of herself she had nearly forgotten. She rode the Faeries’ Wheel with Harkour, laughing as the patchwork of tents and wagons drifted in circles beneath them, and wandered through the merchant tents at his side. Their easy companionship made the days feel warmer, though she tried not to read too much into the quiet comfort growing between them. Her first visit with a festival artisan left her with a custom dress adorned in her beloved butterflies, a piece she treasured instantly. She also sought out the renowned merchant Endalar, whose artistry transformed her cherished Embrace of the Vela’tohr shrub. The festival was full and bright, a welcome reminder that her life held joys beyond duty and healing.
Returning to the guild after the festival, Erisande settled once more into the quiet discipline of her healing work. Alongside her studies, she began to explore alchemy with growing curiosity, spending long hours at the worktables grinding herbs, brewing simple potions, and learning the patient rhythm of mortar and pestle. The practice suited her — a blend of precision and intuition that echoed the gentler parts of her craft — and it offered a sense of steady progress she found deeply comforting.
As her confidence returned, Erisande found herself drawn to the strange, unfeeling world of constructs — the only foes an Empath could face without betraying her calling. She began to test her skills against endrus serpents and the granite and quartz gargoyles that haunted the wilds, learning the patient arc of a short bow and the weight of the magnificent pink sword she had discovered at Guildfest. The work was challenging but deeply satisfying, a way to strengthen herself without compromising the gentleness at the heart of her craft.
Wandering and Wonder
The days slipped into weeks, her routines steadying into a quiet rhythm — until the season brought something unexpected: Taisidon Island was opening.
Erisande heard it mentioned in passing over the years but never visited. When it opened, she purchased several tickets so she and Harkour could return again and again, slipping away from the mainland whenever their schedules allowed. Those days were spent diving beneath warm, crystalline waters in search of pearls, or exploring the island — including an abandoned farmhouse where animated forks, spoons, and other enchanted odds‑and‑ends skittered through dusty rooms and broken floorboards. The hunts were lighthearted compared to the stone‑faced constructs back home, and the easy rhythm of their shared adventures made those visits feel like small, sunlit chapters set apart from the rest of her life.
She returned to her duties for a short while, settling back into the familiar cadence of her work — but the calm didn’t last. When Hollow Eve arrived, it pulled her entirely off course in the best possible way. She took a short hiatus from her responsibilities and spent long stretches of time on Andreshlew, wandering from merchant stall to merchant stall and losing herself in the games. It was during that bright, bustling season that she and Harkour became engaged, a moment tucked amid the revelry that made the festival unforgettable.
