Facial Hair

Males of all races except Gor'Togs, Prydaen, and S'Kra Mur can grow facial hair. (Female Dwarves also have facial hair.) The appearance and maximum length of facial hair varies slightly between races.

Facial hair grows naturally over time in DragonRealms and can be removed, shortened, or styled. The basic tools are the razor and clippers, which are sold at general stores. Empaths can also shift the length of facial hair and even permanently remove it. Warrior mages may use the Burning Touch cantrip. Gelfurjaal unguent can also be used to permanently remove facial hair, or to temporarily prevent facial hair growth between deaths.

Beard and Mustache Commands

There are several verbs for interacting with and modifying beards and mustaches. This post contains the information below.

BRAID <beard/mustache/goatee>
Only available when hair is at certain length.

BRUSH <mustache/beard/goatee> (comb or brush in hand)
You See: You run your brush through your beard, painfully working out all of the kinks and tangles.
Others See: <Player> runs her/his brush through her beard, painfully working out all of the kinks and tangles.

CLEAN <mustache/beard/goatee>
You see: You scrub at your beard, attempting to dislodge stray remnants of food and drink, or any other bits of gore that may have found a home within it.
Others see: <Player> scrubs at her/his beard, attempting to dislodge stray remnants of food and drink, or any other bits of gore that may have found a home within it.

CUT <beard/mustache/goatee>
With clippers this shortens your facial hair.

EAT <beard/mustache/goatee>
You see: Why would you try to chew on your mustache?
Others see: <Player> tries to touch the tip of her/his nose with her/his tongue.

KISS <beard/mustache/goatee>
You see: The wind ruffles your beard, tickling your face a little, so you reach up and smooth it back down.
Others see: The wind ruffles <Player>'s beard and s/he reaches up to smooth it back down.

LICK <beard/mustache/goatee>
You see: You wipe some stray dribble from your beard.
Others see: <Player> wipes some stray dribble from her/his beard.

PEER <beard/mustache/goatee>
You see: Your eyes cross as you try to peer at your beard.
Others see: <Player>'s eyes cross for some unexplained reason.

PULL <beard/mustache/goatee> (beard is short)
You see: Your beard begins to itch and you scratch it fiercely for a moment.
Others see: <Player> reaches up and scratches fiercely at her/his beard for a moment.

PULL <beard/mustache/goatee> (beard is long)
You see: You tug at the tip of your beard distractedly.
Others see: <Player> tugs at the tip of her/his beard distractedly.

REMOVE <lip/chin/beard/mustache/goatee>
Completely removes all facial hair from area shaved.

RUB <beard/mustache/goatee>
You See: You stroke your beard in thoughtful contemplation.
Others See: <Player> strokes her/his beard in thoughtful contemplation.

SCRATCH <beard/mustache/goatee>
You See: You scratch distractedly at your beard.
Others See: <Player> scratches distractedly at her/his beard.

SHAPE BEARD
When beard is long enough this verb can be used with clippers to change the beard into a goatee.

TAP <beard/mustache/goatee> (beard is short)
You See: You run your hand over your beard, smoothing it down.
Others See: <Player> runs a hand over her/his beard, smoothing it down.

TAP <beard/mustache/goatee> (beard is long)
You See: You smooth your beard down with practiced ease.
Others See: <Player> runs her fingers through her/his beard, smoothing it back into place with practiced ease.

TRIM <beard/mustache/goatee> (clippers in hand)
Use clippers to trim and even out the hair. This only changes things slightly, and tends to make things more refined, groomed, elegant, etc.

TURN <beard/mustache/goatee> (beard is short)
You See: You pluck out a stray hair that has been bothering you from your beard.
Others See: <Player> reaches up suddenly and plucks a hair out of her/his beard in irritation.

TURN <beard/mustache/goatee> (beard is long)
You See: You absently twirl a finger through your beard.
Others See: <Player> absently twirls a finger through her/his beard.

WAVE <beard/mustache/goatee>
You See: You furiously drag your fingers through your beard, leaving it sticking out wildly in all directions.
Others See: <Player> furiously drags her fingers through her/his beard, leaving it sticking out wildly in all directions.

Stubble

Facial hair initially grows as stubble. At the stubble stage, the noun is 'stubble', and mustache or beard will not work. From fully clean-shaven, stubble grows in 'on your face' and you do not at this point have a separate beard and mustache. With facial stubble, you cannot use the <lip> or <chin> arguments for Remove to shave only one. If you shave off your mustache or beard it will grow in as separate stubble on your chin and upper lip.

It does not seem possible to cut down to stubble with clippers, this stage can only be reached by growth.

Some beard interactions are unique to stubble. LICK, PEER, RUB, SCRATCH, TAP, TURN, and WAVE function the same as with a beard.

BRUSH STUBBLE (while holding a brush or comb)
You See: You rake your <brush> over your stubbled cheeks, not really accomplishing much, but it does reduce the itching somewhat.
Others See: <Player> rakes a hairbrush over <their> stubbled cheeks, not really accomplishing much, but it seems to make <them> feel better.

CLEAN STUBBLE
You See: You scrub at your stubbled cheeks, attempting to relieve the almost constant itching.
Others See: <Player> scrubs at <their> stubbled cheeks with an intense determination.

EAT STUBBLE
You See: Why would you try to chew on your stubble?
Others See: <Player> tries to touch the tip of <their> nose with <their> tongue.

KISS STUBBLE
You See: The wind blows by, tickling your stubbled face and making it itch a little bit, so you reach up and scrub at your stubbled cheeks.
Others See: <Player> reaches up to scrub at <their> stubbled cheeks.

PULL STUBBLE
Others See: <Player> reaches up and scratches fiercely at <their> stubble for a moment.
