*The mana amount supplied to {{tt|PREPARE}} is the mana placed directly into the spell pattern. Mana supplied afterward through {{com|harness}} or invoked [[cambrinth]] is added when the spell is cast.
*Preparing with insufficient attunement produces the strain warning but still begins the preparation. It does not mean that the requested amount exceeded the spell's maximum.
*{{tt|PREPARE /HIDE}} uses a skill contest; concealment is not automatic merely because the option is enabled. It adds three seconds to preparation time unless the caster knows the [[Magical feats|Silent Preparation]] feat. Preparing while hidden or invisible automatically attempts concealment regardless of this setting.

Prepare
Begins preparing a known spell with a specified amount of mana, or manages spell-preparation messaging.

PREPARE <spell> <mana> — above the spell's maximum
You see: Since you're attempting to feed more power into the spell pattern than it is capable of utilizing, you quickly work your way down to its maximal potential.

PREPARE <spell> <mana> — insufficient attunement
You see: You feel intense strain as you try to manipulate the mana streams to form this pattern, and you are not certain that you will have enough mental stamina to complete it.

PREPARE <unknown spell>
You see: You have no idea how to cast that spell.

PREPARE while already preparing
You see: You are already preparing the <spell> spell!

PREPARE after preparation is complete

Syntax
