Malzard's gwethsmasher was lost to time. Pormithius' gwethsmasher (the last) however was passed on to the trader Opulent to sell within the trade districts of the Crossing on his behalf. Unfortunately, unbeknowest to Pormithius, the gwethsmasher was used by Laros as a tool to sow dissent against Kalag the Black, as part of the uprising against the Crossings thieves guild (see Ladoc). Used throughout his battles, he was only defeated by the then eminent archmage of the realms. After this battle, the last gwethsmasher disapeared into Laros's arsenal, rarely to be seen again, it is believed that it disapeared with him when he retired to his fathers lands.

It should be noted that these original gwethsmashers had unlimited usage, and the probability of them failing (reflecting) was extremely slim, in so far that only the most powerful was able to defeat Laros.

Gwethsmashers when used will shatter the gwethdesuans of the target. Permanent gwethdesuans are merely disabled for twelve anlaen (6 hours) and may be reactivated once that time is up or replaced with a normal set.

Gwethsmashers were once available in the form of obsidian spheres that were sold at certain GM auctions. Prior to a player-made version being released, there were only two such smashers in the game. At the Hollow Eve Festival 392 GM auction two more obsidian spheres were sold, one each to Malzard and Pormithius.

After this battle, the last gwethsmasher disapeared into Laros' arsenal, rarely to be seen again, it is believed that it disapeared with him when he retired to his fathers lands, or perhaps it was passed on to be used at a time when truly needed, only he will ever know.

It should be noted that these original gwethsmashers had unlimited usage, and the probability of them failing (reflecting) was extremely slim, in so far that only the most powerful was able to defeat Laros.

Warning

Attempted use of a gwethsmasher, whether successful or not, will lock a character on Open PvP for 4 hours.

Stat Contest

The smasher contest is a pure stat contest based on both characters' mental stats. Depending on environmental factors it is either perfectly fair, weighted in favor of the defender, or automatically gives the win to the defender. There is no situation where the aggressor of a gwethsmash is on the "right" side of the weighting. . . . It's only an indication of ass-kicking insofar as superior mental stats suggest that. --DR-ARMIFER

Creation

Components

Steps

  1. Scribe, activate, and bind the Raven on the item
  2. Scribe, activate, and bind the Viper or the Magpie, whichever you choose to use
  3. Scribe, activate, and bind the Scorpion on the item
  4. Cast Unleash on the Imbued item
  5. Put the gweth stones in the light

Use

To use, CENTER <item> ON <Name>. They must have gwethed something within the past 5 minutes, and their full name must be used in the command.

If you are smashed, you will see messaging similar to the following:
Your mind suddenly receives a searing jolt! You hear a brief babble of <smasher>'s thoughts as the pain fades away.

Notes

  • This enchantment requires knowledge of either Thoughtcast or Seer's Sense. They are not actually used in the creation process, but are referenced during the final stage.
  • Gwethsmashers can only be created once every 15 days if you know Thoughtcast and longer if you only know Seer's Sense (between 24 and 30 days). This timer is on the same timer as Astral Guides.
  • Attempting to create one before the timer is up results in you losing the Imbued item and gweth stones.
  • The maximum number of charges a player can create a Gwethsmasher with is 10.
  • Gwethsmashers made with kyanite stones will use the skill of the enchanter to determine charges. Gwethsmashers made with jadeite stones will have the charges determined randomly.
  • Individual gwethsmashers can only be used once every 24 hours. One person can use any gwethsmasher only once every hour.
  • Loss of THUMP through receiving an official warning will also cause you to lose the ability to use gwethsmashers.
  • Being gwethsmashed will prevent you from using projecting gwethdesuan or albredine for one hour. Listen-only waermodi and lasmodi gwethdesuans can still be used.
  • Attempting to gwethsmash someone who has not gwethed in the last 5 minutes may cause a rebound.
  • A bug with the home and ship system prevents targets in homes or on some ships from being gwethsmashed under some circumstances.
