Attunement

Your attunement represents your current capacity to harness available mana for use in magic. It is primarily governed by the Attunement skill. It is easiest to understand it as the raw ability of a magician to perform magic. Increasing ability to manipulate mana largely reflects changes in the magicians nervous system that allow greater sensitivity to mana. Casting spells or harnessing mana is mentally fatiguing and reduces your current attunement, which regenerates in pulses every 6 seconds.

Note: As of Magic 3.2, the below struck-out section is no longer true. Attunement regeneration is determined by your guild (as a skillset perk, Magic Primes regenerate attunement faster than Magic Secondaries, who regenerate faster than Magic Tertiaries) and by your current attunement -- the less attunement you have remaining, the faster it regenerates. Certain magical feats also affect attunement.

Your current level of attunement can be shown using the MANA or HARNESS command, and appears in the Wrayth mana bar.

GM-Armifer note of misc errata: Many years ago, prior to Magic 3, we introduced both a cap to how bad room (or "room" in Lunar senses) mana can get, and also a secondary system of passive extra mana. It's not possible in natural conditions to have no mana to work with, though unnatural conditions can stop mana dead in its tracks.

Environmental factors that affect attunement

• Elemental mana is affected by the weather, peaking during storms and at its lowest under clear skies.
• Holy mana is affected by the holy days, peaking during the holiday and at its lowest on the date that is furthest from the two closest ones.
• Life mana is affected by the seasons, peaking during the solstices and at its lowest during the equinoxes.
• Lunar mana is affected by the weather, peaking during clear weather and at its lowest during strong storms.
• Arcane mana sort of cheats (this is a theme), it uses a fraction of available Lunar mana as its modifier, so technically the lay of the moons.
