Happy Tuesday! This week, we are rolling out an update to jousting. Thanks to Zadraes and Ynami for guidance on implementation and to Zadraes and Ulerith for the technical and item QCs, respectively.
Shattering Lances During a joust, there was a high probability that the victor’s lance would be shattered (deleted). While this may have made sense when these mechanics were originally created, we have recently been moving away from destroying players’ gear. Accordingly, we have updated the jousting mechanics so that they will only delete lances that are flagged as disposable. Disposable lances are now sold at all jousting venues and can be identified by the following STUDY: “Designed to shatter upon impact, the jousting lance reduces the risk of serious injury when jousting.” We have also updated these lances to have standard T1 stats, which will result in a slight increase in performance due to the other changes we have made. (See below.) All other lances will incur damage each time they “shatter” during a joust. This creates an incentive to use lances with higher durability. Once a lance has 0 remaining health, you will not be able to joust with it until you repair the lance, which can be done anywhere weapons can be repaired. All jousting venues now also have a waste bin (a wooden bin labeled “shattered lances”) for disposing of legacy lances or any other lances you decide aren’t worth repairing. The following jousting venues were updated. (If we missed any, please let us know by submitting a BUG report while standing in the room where the lances are sold.)
Jousting Contest We have also adjusted the way jousts are scored. Previously, the primary stats that mattered were:
While these factors continue to matter, the new calculation also includes weapon stats and shield stats. These weapon and shield bonuses are reduced by damage, such that a lance or shield with 0% remaining health results in 0 bonus. Skill continues to be the driving factor in the jousting contest, but there is now an incentive to use heavier lances and shields. Please let us know if you notice anything unusual or have constructive feedback on the new scoring mechanics. GM Cordulia | |
