The following letter received wide distribution when it was found, unattributed and with the promised attachments removed, crumpled outside the window of Kssarh's office. While some observers may note the absurd, seemingly planned happenstance of the find, wise Moon Mages point out two easily overlooked things.

1: A vein of cosmic absurdity seems to always happen when you put too many seers in a room. Other examples include the giant shell of Taisgath, and Gylwyn finding two hundred tons of obsidian for sale in Riverhaven.

2: Are you going to be the one to accuse Kssarh of playing politics to his face?

Professional divination has confirmed what our journeymen and students fear: the Necrolord Lyras has breached the Barrier.

The subject poses a unique challenge for divination. Interference from the Barrier has limited the array of clairvoyant spells that are useful and causes sporadic disruptions in all attempts to perceive her. This interference is expected to clear if the subject moves away from the Barrier (we estimate ten miles should be sufficient, see attachment #1 for calculations). Further, directed precognition yields anomalous results which render the exercise useless for our purposes (see attachment #2).

Due to these factors, we have had to rely on consultants from the Warrior Mage and Paladin guilds to interpret our observations. As of this report, we estimate twenty thousand undead creatures have crossed east of the Barrier with more coming through at a steady pace. The composition of the force is largely corporeal undead, but spiritual undead have also been observed.

We do not have enough information to directly judge the quality of the undead, but there is evidence of intelligence. Wagons of materiel have been spotted and we have detected the use of Arcane, Elemental and Lunar magic. The Lunar magic has been scrutinized and matches our designs more readily than the primitive magic historically used by the western tradition.

Full details of the observations of the undead are available in attachment #3. Full details of the magical observations are available in attachments #4, #5 and #6.

Projections on the arrival time for the undead depend on assumptions of the nature and organization of the group. All relevant projections assume logistical support from lunar mages (Moongate, Thoughtcast and so forth) and that the undead will not need to stop for rest once on the march. Assuming the undead are arrayed as a conventional army, we can expect scouts and advanced parties to enter the western boundaries of Forfedhdar] around the first week of the new year. A popular alternative assumes that the undead will move in a directed but incoherent fashion (the "zombie horde" scenario), which would place contact around the fifth week. See attachment #7 for additional scenarios.

Again, we must emphasize these projections are not drawn from astrological observation, but instead from our consultants' years on the battlefield. At best, they must be considered educated guesses.

The current policy of Throne City is cautious observation. We wish to have time to observe the subject after she has put some distance between herself and the Barrier and attempt to identify the unknown factor complicating proper divination. Students must be encouraged to not engage in unnecessary heroics until we have a complete picture of the threat that the subject poses.

The Arid Steppe guildhall may be evacuated at Grandmaster Taramaine's discretion. While we have no intention of abandoning our colleagues and family who make their home on the steppe, we will not give the undead lunar mages an opportunity to seize a Named Grazhir shard. If the evacuation order is given, all students, staff, magical devices and historical artifacts valued over ten platinum will be removed to Throne City.
