Roars are a Barbarian's means of intimidating a foe into flight or doubting their own abilities.

Battle Cries

Battle Cries are much more focused on the enhancing your allies in the immediate area and cannot be used without at least one person in your group.

The general consensus of the Barbarian community is that Battle Cries are nearly useless. While they may have an effect, the loss of a roar slot and the necessity of hunting with others is almost never worth it.

Use

Roaring is done using the Roar command.

The primary statistic for enhancing Roars is Charisma, though Strength, Stamina, and skill with the weapon in hand may play a part in some Roars. See specific entries for non-standard enhancements. The ratio of people within your group compared to the number outside it will affect the strength of your roar; the more allies you have the more potent your fear, but the more enemies you face, the less you intimidate. In addition, combat range and your position also will enhance or penalize your attempts, with closer enemies and overwhelmed enemies being more susceptable to your attempts.

Voice recovery may be minorly enhanced with skill in Vocals skill, however, it has been stated that it is a minor effect, and should cap out at around 100 ranks.

Roars may be additionally boosted with the use of Berserk Nightmare, Roar Helms, or Warpaint, and defended against with Roar Cloaks.

Restrictions

Corporeal undead are highly resistant to Roars, and incorporeal undead are completely immune.

Beware of roaring within the boundaries of a town, as the majority of the time it is considered a crime and will garner expensive Breaching the Peace warrants.

Aquiring Roars and Battle Cries

Each of the Barbarian Guildleaders will teach a separate group of Roars and Battle Cries. Barbarians receive their first pick at 5th circle and an additional pick every 10 circles after that.

Some Roars have circle requirements and/or require that you know another Roar before they can be chosen.

Rechoosing Roars

Though it is currently impossible to be rid of a Roar or Battle Cry once chosen, Barbarian Advocate Aurdun has indicated that there may be a system in the works for rechosing a small number of Roars, though he has not made any definite statement or even given a general time frame.
