Titles....ew
I'm going to TRY and adapt the titles to semanticwiki's dynamic form generation so as to make some of the category pages a little easier to maintain... but I have no idea if it'll work. Check the Perception skill page, down at the bottom with the juggling items to see what I'm trying to do. Lemmie know what you think. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 01:26, 15 August 2008 (CDT)
- Ok, that's a great idea, because the load time on the pages currently with all the includes are horrible. LOL After this, I'd like to hit the Bestiary *groans* It needs to be done. Semantic Wiki will help LOADS with that, and if we add caps to the individual pages, the Bestiary level list can be made just like that juggling items, aye?--Naeya (talk) 09:57, 15 August 2008 (CDT)
- In theory..... we'll just have to see how messy it is in actual practice. Here's hoping. I'll work out the bugs with the simpler titles, then try bestiary once I've nailed it down. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 15:33, 15 August 2008 (CDT)
- I've been changing some of the titles over to use the TitleReq template instead of the extra pipes in the Title template. Should I undo what I've done, so that other pages can be changed to match Barbarian Titles? FuIru 19:41, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- Speaking of load times, it looks like the Empath Titles page is timing out now, thanks to my conversions of the individual titles. Also times out trying to edit it to use the Ask. I apparently should have switched over to Ask on the titles page first... There an easy fix? FuIru 02:48, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed.Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 04:04, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Redlink Directing
Check here and lemmie know, please. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 01:30, 20 August 2008 (CDT)
- Okay, I have to put in a few more minor things, but after that it should work for MOST things. If you see something that isn't, poke me on my user page and I'll look into it. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 18:00, 20 August 2008 (CDT)
Outcast
can we get a new catagory added to the npc's and pc's that will allow me to identify them as members of the outcast tribes?Alexii 13:26, 16 September 2008 (CDT)
- For NPCs, you can enter that as one of the Types and throw in at the bottom. PCs you can still use the Category link, but an addition to the Template for Order/Clan type info might be handy.

Titles
I have to admit, they're starting to tick me off. What do you think about moving them to their own namespace? I'm tired of having to filter them out of searches manually. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 19:24, 12 October 2008 (CDT)
- That would be a huge and tedious project. I guess we can do that. --Naeya (talk) 19:48, 12 October 2008 (CDT)
- It would be, but no worse than the item conversion was. And the sooner we do it (if we do it) the easier it will be. I dunno, it's up to you as the owner whether that's the style you want. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 23:45, 12 October 2008 (CDT)
Versions
Seems we're behind on both the new versions of Semantic Forms and Semantic MediWiki. If you have a spare moment, could you upgrade? I think it might fix some problems I'm having with some of the forms. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 15:39, 31 October 2008 (CDT)
I haven't been keeping up with the MediaWiki releases. Do you think it would behoove us to upgrade to 1.13?--Naeya (talk) 16:16, 31 October 2008 (CDT)
- As long as it doesn't cause something to explode, catch on fire, or require tech support, probably.-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 16:42, 31 October 2008 (CDT)

- Looks like the factboxes have been disabled, could you look into that? -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 18:04, 31 October 2008 (CDT)
- I could...not sure where to begin looking. I haven't dug into this stuff in months. All I did on the upgrade was overwrite the files with the new ones and reinitialize SMW (as was instructed). Hmm..--Naeya (talk) 18:05, 31 October 2008 (CDT)
- OK found it. In the newest version of SMW, the Factbox is off by default. I turned it back on.--Naeya (talk) 19:04, 31 October 2008 (CDT)

- Oh crappola. I overwrote the old SMW_Settings.php... I'll need to fix it again for Namespaces.--Naeya (talk) 19:08, 31 October 2008 (CDT)
- Welp, unless you do decide to update MediaWiki, I need you to redo this:[1] -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 10:20, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- The edit was still in place in Linker.php (oddly). I do plan on upgrading to 1.13 but I was going to wait til after the rush of edits from the fest.--Naeya (talk) 10:23, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- Okay, edit with form is working again, but the item/weapon/armor/etc namespaces still aren't using factboxes or properties. Hope you enjoy this sort of thing, cause I'm about ready to strangle a goblin. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 12:13, 1 November 2008 (CDT)

- I re-added the namespaces to the SMW settings, I might have had it wrong before, it's been a LONG time since I last edited that file... umm did I screw it up to make "Osgeth's" factbox appear at the top of every page?--Naeya (talk) 13:51, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- Seems to be fine now... I think. Thanks. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 14:02, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- Okay, still can't get the redlink to default to the correct forms. Can you check the linker once more? -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 14:14, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- I double checked. The code is in place. This will have to wait until I upgrade the entire wiki. I'll probably do that before the end of the weekend, if I can find a lull in the activity.--Naeya (talk) 15:00, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- I think I may have found a problem. Can you check and make sure the namespaces exist? Take a look at Item:Branded_leather_wristwrap_with_braided_straps. There's a wierd reference to "concept" at the bottom that I don't get. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 15:46, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- They exists... check out Special:Search. However.. I think that the new version of SMF includes "Concepts" and it might have overwritten the namespace 108 (Item). Let me take a look. --Naeya (talk) 15:49, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- Yup, that's exactly what happened. Give me a few to sort it out. I don't want to have to move them all from Concept: to Item. --Naeya (talk) 15:52, 1 November 2008 (CDT)

I've checked and double checked the includes and such. I have no idea why the factbox isn't working.--Naeya (talk) 16:26, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- Oh boy. All the items have been moved to the Concept namespace. That's gonna take a bit to fix. As for the fact box, um. As I recall, last time this happened it was because of the numbers that were assigned. Maybe? -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 16:32, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
I'm probably going to run the update on MediaWiki (to 1.13.2) VERY soon. I just don't want to do it in the middle of the day on a weekend while people are using it for the fest.--Naeya (talk) 16:58, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- Lemmie know if and what I can do to help.-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 17:39, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- I'm still not sure if I have the namespaces setup correctly in the SMW_Settings.php and I can't find anything that just doesn't say "add to the array". Meh I'm mad at myself for overwriting it. It's been so long, I forgot all the files I had customized.--Naeya (talk) 17:44, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- Hate to be a killjoy, but the factboxes for the namespaces are still gone. :P -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 18:22, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- How come this one shows? Weapon:Acid-etched_steel_horseshoe_stamped_with_the_crest_of_the_paladins'_guild
- WHOOO!!! Now one last problem and it'll be a good day. I can't make redlinks edit by form. Any clue?-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 18:32, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
- That I have no clue. If anything it will be fixed when I upgrade to 1.13.2 on Monday.--Naeya (talk) 18:39, 1 November 2008 (CDT)

New Articles
Ah! I'm new to the Wiki scene, so still figuring out how to navigate this "talk" concept. No, those articles I'm posting aren't my own works; they were written by GameMaster Armifer, and are referenced on his GM page in Elanthipedia. I'm actually in the process of uploading all his works that I can find, so I haven't properly attributed them on the pages I'm posting yet... but I will. ;-)
- Ok. Just a note - it's customary to continue talk conversations on the page they were started. And make sure to sign your talk posts (the signature button in the edit button window). Thanks! --Naeya (talk) 21:13, 1 November 2008 (CDT)
Search Functionality
With the segreating of items, weapons, armor, etc. into their own categories away from the Main section, do you think it would be possible to include those categories in the default search settings? It drastically reduces the search functionality for the casual user if a cursory search doesn't turn up what they're looking for. --Thilan 05:44, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- I've set the default search namespaces to include all the new ones we've added. However, the maintenance script I tried to run to fix all existing users has failed several times to work, and I'm not sure what the problem is. All my other scripts have worked. Until I get the patch on user options to work, I will put up a big SEARCH HOWTO that tells people to change their Search preferences in their preferences area to include the other namespaces.--Naeya (talk) 15:11, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
re: GoogleSearch
Just to forewarn you (if you haven't already heard stuff like this), you might get mixed results from this. GoogleSearch seems to be based on your site score or somesuch, so if you get too popular more and more "unrelated junk" will appear (ie, references to Elanthipedia from, say, play.net posts).
Zuggsoft.com tried to use GoogleSearch for an easy and powerful way to scan through their website/forums, but the results returned proved to be largely unuseful to the point that few people used it at all (luckily, the forums had a search feature of its own).--Symphaena 23:01, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Is it possible to put the google search below the elanthipedia search? I keep trying to search elanthipedia with it. --Ysselt 19:08, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- That's the point, but sure I'll move it.--Naeya (talk) 20:07, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Is there a way to default it to submit the search with "site:www.elanthipedia.com" appended to each search? then it will only search for whatever is being searched within the elanthipedia domain. --Bromus 08:12, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Shop Prices
I'm trying to learn to edit and I'm confining myself to the Crossing Trader Shop. I can't seem to figure out how to get prices to display for the items in the store. Any advice? --Dinran 23:02, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- No worries. For future reference, you can use the signature button in the editing buttons toolbar (File:Button sig.jpg) or just type 4 tildes ~~~~.
- To answer your question, Edit the shop page, go to the ShopItem line for the item you want to add the price to, and add the numerical value for the price after the last |
- Example

- --Naeya (talk) 14:03, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- And if you mean on individual item pages, as I see you made an edit to Item:Jade turtles, just add the number and the currency (as the form asks). So like 2000 Kronars.--Naeya (talk) 14:05, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Not all the shop pages end their entries with " |}} ", some just have the closing brakets right after the name, but that just means you need to add the " | " right before the price yourself. It's quite straight forward once you know what all the parts are for, but that first look at the wall of text can be quite intimidating

So to clarify there is no way to link the table to the Item's stored sale amount?--Dinran 23:02, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Not currently. It has to be entered in both places.
- Nope. Because an item may be sold in multiple places for more than one price. It's theoretically possible, but it would be messy and I'm not really sure how reliable it would be. Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 05:07, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- There is a reference in the item for each store it's sold in, I don't know enough about it to know if it's possible within the limitations of the wiki's code but in theory you could have the shop page reference the price based upon the shop listed in the item page.--Dinran 20:45, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- Probably would be rough on the System for pulling items like Item:Flint, since it would need to look through each of the shop entries to match up the store names. And I'm not even going to contemplate how to handle items like Item:Finespun silk cloak.

Titles, Redux
Okay, now that I've started moving titles, I've run into a strange issue. The fact boxes show up for the articles in the Title namespace... but things like #ask don't see them. Any idea? Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 21:28, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. I ran the maintenance scripts after I setup the new namespace, so it's a viable content namespace. Hmm... does #ask work on the other namespaces?--Naeya (talk) 21:43, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, I've found a way to force it to specifically look in another namespace, but otherwise it only seems to check the main one. This is despite the documentation which says I should default to all namespaces. I wonder if it's at all tied to the odd behavior of the factboxes? (They don't show up on first loading a page, only once you reload 'em). Fun, eh? Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 22:14, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
having difficulty trying to put in multiple characters as character profile
I have tried 2 different times to add other characters. once under USER: Kadoshgonif, the second time under USER: Dagonif. I am trying to put in Schvartzgonif, and as it is I only see her profile under User page, not when I click on pc character pages. I'd also like to add other characters as well. Do I need a seperate user page for them all?
I am not using the former email or account I had specifically named Schvartzgonif, as I'm no longer using AOL, and it had that email as contact. I'm at YGERST@netzero.net if you need me to verify that I am, indeed, the gonif.
- Why don't you just make two pages (not User: pages) called Kadoshgonif and Schvartzgonif? Most people, myself included, prefer to do that, and just link to those pages from their User page. Just click on those redlinks to create the pages. Then put the following links somewhere on your userpage Kadoshgonif Schvartzgonif--Naeya (talk) 01:34, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Map not loading right
Redoing some maps and created a new map 34c. It seems to load fine in IE but in Firefox it keeps having a message that the Image is not valid. Even after clearing cache and restarting Firefox it is doing this. maybe it will work fine later, but if you could take a look at this and see if you see some problem.
- After rebooting it worked, no reason to look into.

Redirect Mistake On My Part
Hi. I was attempting to make some new planned spell lists, but made a big mistake on one of them. Had the wrong name for the spell and when trying to redirect it, I just made a bigger mess. It was for the Potency Shift spell. Somehow there are now three pages. Sorry about this, is there any way to fix it? The pages are Potency Shift,Portents Shift, and Portency Shift. The correct one should only be Potency Shift. Thank you and sorry again. Also, sorry if this was not the place to ask but was told only the Admin could delete pages.

Could you check SMW_Settings.php and see if the $smwgQComparators is set to allow the comparitors "~?" and "~*". If not, could you change it? It would allow me to do some interesting things on templates. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 21:06, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

possible addition to critter skinning
not sure where this really should go, and didn't want to start altering templates and such... but maybe since scraping skins teaches additional skinning, having a cap listed as far as learning skinning from scraping pelts/hides/skins. --Homikrin 08:53, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- Is that based on the source of the skin for it's cap? -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 19:21, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- I was thinking in terms of, if one were to say, skin a Striped Badger, and scrape the pelt, what would be the rank at which the 'scrape normal' no longer teaches skinning, or is there ever a point where that happens? --Homikrin 23:04, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Map109c
Not sure what the problem is, but only one of the 3 types of armadillos are being listed. They are all listed in the source and even tried reentering them. Brablo 23:32, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- I do believe that is handled by the individual creature templates. So check the other two types and make sure that Map109c is listed as where they are found.--Naeya (talk) 00:26, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- Naeya's right... I just recently updated the map infobox to auto-populate it from creature pages. see rmap for the template used on creature pages... I'm working my way down the map list to update all the maps to remove creature= (and shops/people) for the auto-populating to work, and then I'll remove all signs of creature= etc from the infobox template. --Callek 01:29, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Namespaces
Hey, any chance you can create Namespaces: Post and Log (or plural those at your discretion). Caraamon seems to think they may make sense. (that is if doing so won't break anything) --Callek 03:29, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, is there really a demand for those? --Naeya (talk) 13:56, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- Not too much with Logs, but I do have at least one to copy to a page (And I forsee reasons for future logs to be added). And as far as Posts, we have alot of /Posts pages, that we seem to be duplicating among many pages, because they relate to many articles. With a Posts namespace, we can just add a single page for a post and use Semantic Mediawiki to associate it to the articles where it matters. --Callek 15:21, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

- Looks like all of the factboxes are disabled for some reason. It may be that the semantic tags are nonfunctional as well. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 07:50, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

- I did the upgrade of SMW as per the instruction on their home site. I can't imagine what is causing the issues we're experiencing. Perhaps ask on their discussion list? --Naeya (talk) 01:11, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Did you (two) verify the chmod of the SMW files. and that the DB itself is accessible (read/write) with the user/pass we are using for SMW? --Callek 03:08, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- .... Uh. Of course we did. And just to be sure we do it the same way, how would you have checked that? Because we did. Of course we did. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 21:20, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Naeya,
I want to change the skill caps on critter pages to offensive and defensive ranges. Tinkering around I added 2 columns to the bestiary list itself, and I fiddled with the ship rat page to include the correct properties. I was going to add the necessary properties MinDefCap and MaxDefCap but got a little stuck there. Also want to change MinCap and MaxCap to MinOffCap and MaxOffCap. If you can get these implemented I'll start adding info to the critters themselves.
Thanks!
Nazzarus
- That's really too complicated, and adds even more data to track to an already overloaded temple. As it is, basically the skill ranks represent the higher (or lower) of defenses or offenses required to hunt the creature. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 20:19, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- Does the system get overloaded when you add more to a template? Not sure what the issue is, was shooting for accuracy since people look for different critters for different training, and this gives the list more details (I don't see this as a bad thing). Check DRPlat.com to see what I mean Nazzarus Stormfall(talk) 02:59 16 March 2009 (CST)
- The more properties you add to a template, especially one that's going to be included into at least a hundred pages, the more data has to be accessed each time that page is loaded. As it stands, there's already a lot of data, plus you have the problem of visually overloading the page.
- Top that off with the fact that the numbers are only guidelines, due to differences in spells, armor, weapons, hunting styles, stats, abilities, and a thousand other things, I don't feel like two sets of numbers is going to be any more informative than one. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 19:47, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Better categories
I figured I would ask first, but I would like to sort weapons and armor (at the least) into better categories, such as all LX into a Light Crossbow category that links to Weapons, all ME into a Medium Edge category.
So would this be alright to do, or are there reasons it hasn't been done like this? -- Tea 04:10, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
- That's what the currently disabled semantic functions are for. It'll be back and working ASAP. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 05:33, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- Okay thanks! I was wondering where those went. --Tea 20:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Formula Question
Hello. Was just wondering whether it would be OK to start transferring over the formulas from DRSecrets. I can't imagine there's any sort of copyright problem, but just wanted to make sure before I started doing it and got anyone in trouble. Celeres 03:17, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
See also Template Problems
I'm attempting to make a template that mirrors Template:See Also, but it's not going so hot. I've tried a few different things, but haven't found a decent source on template styles and have ran out of things to try. Any help would be appreciated. --Maje 09:26, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- If you look at the source for that template you're trying to mirror, you'll see that it itself calls a great number of other templates. I wouldn't recommend trying to exactly mirror that particular wikipedia template, just because it's so complex and to make it exactly the same, you'd have to bring in all those other templates, which is really unnecessary. I suggest just making it very simple. I'll take a look at what you have in a few. Don't have time just yet this morning.--Naeya (talk) 14:44, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
SemanticWiki Oddness
I've done everything I can think of, but no dice. I think we may have to delete all the software and reinstall. In theory, it shouldn't affect the wiki pages themselves. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 23:58, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- "In theory" is a frightening thing. So... deleting files + database tables associated with SMW?--Naeya (talk) 00:02, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- In all honesty, since I can't figure out if the problem is SMW or the base MediaWiki.... everything? I wouldn't worry, that's what backups are for! -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:06, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- groans* I hate restoring backups! LOL Ugh. You might be right though. I need to do a little praying and get some courage to tackle that project...--Naeya (talk) 00:12, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yep yep yep. Lemmie know what I can do. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:23, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
