Hey, on Elemental Pathways
done, gave pathway perceive it's own page for future additions too
-Powerhaus 10:26, 30 January 2009

Weapon Template Error
<s>hmm ok, i'll work on it. Eh Barrage kind of is and isn't, it's not like the others cause it's an actual attack rather than a state of mind, but shows up on our pathway list and uses 'mental reserve' that only gets drained and used by pathway stuff, i'll probably just put a See barrage or something. thanks
Powerhaus23:40, 29 January 2009<br>

The damage template is missing "demolishing." Example: w<br>
noticed there's 2 pathways pages, one with spoilers, and one that's a mess. Should the info just be copied over the the messy one, and delete the spoilers and leave a link to the pathway spoilers page? Also I don't think the whole Spell Form is needed, since other than barrage they don't include any spell effects? Also was wondering if I should move Defense Pathway spoilers from Discussion to the acual page since it's been awhile now. Finally, should Barrage be included with the pathways with just a link to the Barrage entry?

Template Request: Material Properties
Hi
If you could get with me in an email that would be fantastic. idonraiders@inbox.com or idonswebmaster@imseeingatherapist.com either works. thanks so much.--WebmasterIdonraiders 00:13, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Etherian has been working on an Alteration Buddy, and we were thinking it would be extremely helpful for those designing alterations to be able to query for certain "fluff" properties of materials. This would best be accomplished by making a "Material Properties: template with the following fields:
please note I've responded to Fenance's claims as best I could and also took your advice and remained civil :) Thanks for taking the time to hear both sides and Have a great night. --WebmasterIdonraiders 00:19, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Using - for any field would set the value to none.
Titles
*Material Name: same as page name unless otherwise specified
I've been changing some of the Title pages to use the TitleReq templates, rather than the extra pipes in the Title template, as I thought the TitleReq was the way things were going, but then I saw what you'd done with Barbarian Titles, so am thinking I may need to undo the changes I've made. Or, possibly use both styles so that TitleAsk and the individual Title pages both work? Thoughts? FuIru 20:08, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
:Sorry for the long wait, I've been having internet problems. Use TitleAsk for the category pages and use the forms to do the individual title pages. The form knows how to process it correctly.Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 03:35, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
As you probably noticed I updated the titleAsk stuff to "work better" including pretty name, and linking etc. (we may want to update css/formatting on the "more" link... no time atm). I also added a TODO page to help with getting it all done (and caught up)! Also of note is the missing property, which I added generically to do things like what you just did today (add it to other templates), so thanks on that! --Callek 05:37, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

::Replied to you on my talk page. again --Callek 20:32, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
hey, any idea what is up with the Title ToDo page, it refs the missing::TitleReq and still shows many pages that no longer have that. Even its "more" link shows that. Nearly the whole first results have that problem. Is it a Semantic bug, a function of how elanthipedia is cached, or did I do some mistake? If a semantic MW bug I can surely dig and attempt to fix stuff, but it may take a bit of work. (my best guess is its a factor of Semantic MW + parser functions together, the #if stuff) --Callek 03:31, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
::: It's a caching issue as far as I can tell. Basically, until the page is purged after the semantics change, it won't send it to the search engine properly. At least that's the issue I keep running into. If that doesn't work.... lemmie know and I'll poke into it. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 07:45, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
::: Okay, I've found a fix. Purging (i.e. refreshing) isn't enough, you actually have to do a no-change edit and save for it to be updated correctly. I suspect it has to do with the fact they were shifted namespaces, but I'm not sure of the details. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 07:49, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
::::Yea, purging in and of itself did not work (I can also purge :-) ) which is where I was confused. --Callek 15:28, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
:::::Hmm, and looks like it STILL did not update that ToDo page (I see a few that still shouldn't be there)... unless you mean purge/blank-save on the Title:* pages themselves. --Callek 15:30, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
::::::Yep. Gotta resave each individual title page. Why? Damned if I know. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 19:37, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Couple things: How do we calculate a diff for a title that only requires a stat like Title:Actor? And how do we calculate a diff for a guild title requiring a skill that isn't required for the guild like Title:Impresario? Had a couple more that have slipped my mind at the moment, but I'll let you know. I've been gradually working through the categories, finished Trader, Performer, Lore and Criminal, working on Survivals and up next are Thief and the other general categories. I saw you were doing the combat ones this morning so I'll leave those to you if you want. Thanks, Azhag 02:47, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
::Okay, what I do is that I ignore any skill that isn't required (no choice), and if it's a pure stat title, I make an arbitrary guess based on what I know of the given guild. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 02:53, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Note: I know there are existing category tags for the above two options. think it would ultimately be better to move the page categorization from the manual category tags to the template. I am happy to do this work once the template is set up.
Hey can you proofread and copy-edit Selling_Gem_Pouches for me, I'm not sure if that is clear enough. But I just wanted to write an article on it from all my times explaining the methods to newcomers in the gemshop in crossing! (I plan on writing a page on the numbers, and one "for traders" to refer to eventually) --Callek 18:21, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
: I'm not sure how to better word it at the moment, but tieing a pouch actually creates 2 items, not one. It is one for the pouch itself, and one for all the gems inside. --Callek 21:39, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

I responded on my user talk. As far as the changes go, I've provided proof but honestly, they're about things that are general reputation. It's well known, and Ragran is attempting to hide it. As someone who works full time on wikis, I am quite averse to people trying to whitewash their own articles that read like puff-pieces. Fenance 22:53, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

::red/pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, neutral (white/black/grey), multicolored, or none (if the material has no inherent color)

I just made a change to the map infobox, without first verifying that this is something we want. Revert if you think we need to either create stubs with template for shops red-linked from maps. Or if you feel that the way I did this is not wanted (i.e. fest shops showing up, needing to add new shop pages for the links to even appear, or shops from sub-maps not appearing -- i.e. Trader shop is not on Ranik's Map 1). --Callek 04:38, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

I would adapt the Manual of Style standards for items for use with materials.
A few thoughts I am having... The creature pages are unwieldy and unable to be easily modified via the Form.

Thanks! --ISHARON (talk) 21:58, 26 September 2017 (CDT)
I suggest one of us come up with a new layout there (that the current template(s) can fit into without much difficulty (given the large number of critter pages). Preferrably [imo] one that has majority of text along left side of page (rather than needing to move from the float: left stuff)

Templates
I was thinking something like a top-of-page header that has all the info, and the picture along the right side. But no idea how to work that. This will also allow us to have the map list specified in numbers alone on the creature pages in future (so we don't need to rely on people using rmap)

Something is wrong with the armor template, where it's flagged as cambrinth, but the max charge isn't displaying. E.g., a --ISHARON (talk) 20:08, 28 January 2017 (CST)
As far as NPC's, I was thinking of adjusting the template/form to allow pre-title, last name, and post-title (even affil?) entries. And then we can utilize that info on other pages we link from (such as Maps). This would negate the need to alt-specify MANY of the NPC's. (and could be used for player characters too).

Crafting material pages
Shopowners I was considering removing from the "Noteable People" list, unless they have another |type| associated with their NPC page. reasoning being in some cities there are MANY shops, and as the shops are already listed there is probably no need to also list their owners on the main map page.

So I thought I was making up the BONE item pages the same as how you'd made up the METAL item pages, but now I see you're starting to do re-directs on them to other page names. First off, sorry! Guess I should have just done one and gotten you to look it over first. So, with that in mind, do you want to go ahead and do the first leather item up (right now, looks like Antelope skin), so I have a template to do the other leather items that way too so that you won't have to go back and fiddle them later? Not trying to make more work for you...:) --Kythryn 14:51, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
I have not investigated any of these thoughts too heavily yet, but was wondering your opinion.
: Actually, I'm still testing it, trying to find the way that makes the most sense. Metals and stones are fairly simple, as they always are obvious what they are. Skin and bones isn't always quite so straightforward. I list them in stack form for a couple reasons:
::# So people can easily match what's in their pack to crafting stats.
::# Because some skin/bones we can't actually attribute to a specific creature yet or come from multiple creatures.
::# Because some skin/bones is very oddly named.
::# Because some similarly named items might end up being very different (Snow Goblin bones might end up different than Elven Pixie Forest and Plains Goblin bones) and so having a Goblin Bone page could cause issues.
: That being said, this is a wiki and not my personal little fiefdom, so if you think you have a better way to do it, PLEASE give it a shot. I watch all the changes on the site (or at least try), so even if I disagree and change it, some part of your idea may end up being far better. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 19:01, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
::You may not claim the title, but we all know: You're king of the Elanthipedia Kingdom...:).
:::So, on the stack vs. no-stack thing, I see where you're coming from. But, on the flip side of that, if you're looking to match what is in a pack, why not lumium shard or silk cloth or onyx rock? I mean, the only thing you can (currently) pick up from it's name is a prepared healing herb (ie. crushed belradi moss becomes crushed belradi), everything else you see as a "cloth" or an "ingot" or whatever. (not trying to be difficult here, but seems like the other materials already have their "qualifier" stripped off, so why not with Bone & Leather too).
:::And, we do already have Goblin Bone and Pale Goblin Bone (thanks to Antendren checking a snow goblin question I had) so I do suspect that if the GM's release something from 2 similar creatures, they will give it a separate name. Hopefully. Probably. Maybe.
:::At the end of the day, I don't really care how we proceed with this, I'm happy to help populate everything. --Kythryn 00:55, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
::::And because I'm just itching to do something with this tonight it seems, I have been playing around with Caracal-pelt Leather, including the base pelt and made a test table under the COMMON LEATHER section on the Crafting Materials page. Let me know what you think, make changes, etc. Thanks! --Kythryn 03:32, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

::ugh, sorry I didn't get all those leather crafting supplies finished up yet but I did guilt Anuind into getting me samples of all the remaining common leather skins and have them tanned. So, I am (hoping!) to finish that up this coming weekend. That being said, I'd posted on the forums, and will add this to the "crafting feedback" page too, but since there are currently 2 common skins that turn into "some azure-scale leather", each with different stats, should I go ahead and make "some azure-scale leather (1)" and "some azure-scale leather (2)", and a master "disambig" page like this link for both?

::::Ugh, looks like some red-links are still on the crafting materials page from the server transfer. Also, there are some naming things going on when you look at the Crafting Materials#Rare Leather, sometimes it is an item other times it is just a page. I don't think I'll be re-visiting this in the near future, however if you want to let me know the page naming standard you want for things, if it hasn't been done by the time I motivate, I'll be happy to go through and standardize and follow-up on the red-links. --Kythryn 15:33, 25 January 2015 (CST)

: NPC/Shopkeepers.... the problem is that if you exclude shopkeepers, who else do you exclude? What criteria do we set for "important" people? As for alt names, just change the "names" section to whatever you want displayed, and use that as the display name.... actually, lemmie set that up as a tag. -Moderator Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 18:13, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
::As far as "important" people, I was thinking shopkeepers not listed unless they have/had another role as something else. As in, in general we won't list Grisgonda on crossing (he owns the gemshop) but if the NPC of grisgonda caught and killed Grishnok, then we'd have him listed as another type of npc as well. Basically I'm just thinking to exclude shopkeeps from the Map List who are not also listed as another type. (The shops themselves are still listed, and I still intend we include the shopkeeps on the wiki). --Callek 18:17, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Heya! I'm updating some of the Hib stuff, and in the Barbarian guild, there is a door that looks like is Barb-only and it looks to be a shop.
Posts and Scripts
:>look door
:Polished into the brushed bronze of the door are letters that spell out, "Kvaren's".
:It is open.
:>go doo
:A large hand reaches out from behind the curtain and blocks your entrance. A burly guard mutters to you, "Just where, do you think yer goin? This shop is fer members of the Guild only."
I don't know how often you get out of Crossing, but if you're ever out this way, or you know a Barb in the area, might have them pop over and document the stuff? From the street, go boulder, go door, go grey arch, east, SE, east. That puts you in the room to GO DOOR to the shop. --Kythryn 16:06, 31 January 2015 (CST)

Don't know if this has been answered yet but as I'm in Hibarnhvidor I decided to check this out. Here is the room inside the door and contents of shop. --Rhadyn 22 January 2016
Hmm, I am envisioning placing posts in their own namespace so we don't have to duplicate them across many pages, and actually using semantic-media-wiki to auto-generate a list of posts (with a "more..." link).

[Elding Gwilt, Kvaren's]
Also, I think we can do a better job of segregating scripts. So if we get a Posts: and a Scripts: namespace we can sort this all out a bit better I think. :-) If you agree I'd like to pester Naeya about adding those two new namespaces. (I have a better idea along the Posts side than Scripts side though). --Callek 22:57, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
There is little space to move about in this cramped shop. The bronze door opens inward, guiding customers straight to a display counter, while not making maneuvering any easier. To the left of the the counter, a number of axes have been placed on display on a rack. Adding to the clutter of the establishment, a small shelf hangs above a stout table, each showing off their own wares.
Obvious exits: none.

On the display counter you see a small iron axe bearded with bright steel, an oak-hafted hurling axe with a wide steel blade inlaid with gold tracings, a slender steel throwing axe with a white leather-wrapped haft, a heavy bronze hurling axe with a river boa-shaped haft, a short-hafted hand axe with a dragon-engraved blade, a small axe with faint engravings along its length and a light bronze throwing axe with a grass eel-shaped haft.
:Ahh I knew there were two namespaces I wanted to use, and Scripts was one thing I've been thinking about, but wasn't actually the namespace I was hoping to ask you about. The other being "Logs". For <cleaned-up> logs of events, meetings, etc. not meant to be the main-wiki articles, but useful for anyone who cares to see the finer details. (Can be copied logs from posts, or players actually posting the logs themselves). Most logs should/could be made eventually into 3'rd party style. --Callek 22:59, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

On the axe rack you see a dark ironwood-hafted axe with a cruelly serrated head, a hand axe with an iron-banded handle, a smoke grey lochaber axe with a mottled steel head, a flint-bladed axe with a lengthened handle, an elm-handled battle axe topped by a grinning steel wolfshead, a black iron axe with a maple handle wrapped in thin leather cording, a twohanded war axe with a skull-shaped pommel, a crescent-bladed war axe engraved with a flame pattern, a goldenoak-hafted battle axe with a shining silvered blade and a sleek lochaber axe with a razored edge.
Spell Template
Can you please recheck your work on the spell template? Having a problem with Template:Shield. There's a couple protection values that you don't have listed as possible values, for instance "very poor" and "rather low". I didn't want to edit the template because you had previously hard-coded values as 0=none, 1=poor, 2=low, etc. and I was afraid adding the new ones would break it. == Adding TOC to player template card ==

Hey Caraamon! Having a Table of Contents and a Player Template Card on the same page was bugging me, so I wanted to take a shot at combining the two. See it in action on Uzmam's page. Absolon also helped out by making it a y/n toggle. I also took the left hand padding from the TOC, changed it into a margin, and adding it to the player template as a whole, giving some space between the main body copy and the player template card.

If you like how it works (and if it doesn't break anything!), we can flow it into the default templates for PCs and NPCs. Maybe even shops, who knows! --TEVESHSZAT (talk) 22:33, 13 January 2016 (CST)

Title redirect / caching issue?
Ok I came across a weird issue in regards to titles. Take the title "Shadowmancer" for example. If you go to the Title:Shadowmancer title page everything is right. If you click on the discussion tab in Title:Shadowmancer or directly go to Shadowmancer which redirects to Title:Shadowmancer you see some old cached version of the page (which you can't edit, when you try to you edit the current version, not this cached version). Now oddly if while on that bad cached page, you click the "(Redirected from Shadowmancer)" link, it takes you back to Shadowmancer, and then when you manually click the redirect link, it takes you to the correct Title:Shadowmancer. Not sure really what is going on here. Sorry if that is a bit confusing but hopefully it's detailed enough.

Also as an aside question, for updating titles, the article obsolete stub says "Some of these requirements have not been updated to 3.0. These requirements are italicized." I add the new=yes field to a title when I know all the reqs are updated and it gets rid of the "This article is obsolete" stub, but I'm not sure how to make updated reqs be non italicized (though I guess once the stub is removed it doesn't really matter if they are italicized or not?). -SYDNEE (talk) 14:20, 13 February 2016 (CST)

Character Page not showing up in categories, Unable to create User Page
I hope this is the right place to post this.

I created a page for my character Enalen a couple days ago. It's been added to the proper categories via the PC template, and they are linked at the end of the page so that seems to be working fine. But when you go to any of those categories, her page isn't actually filed under them. Also I added an image to the database and put it on the page. It displays properly on the character page but when you look at the image's info page, it claims nothing links to it.
:Unfortunately, category pages take a while to populate. If the recent Chris' Mass shop category page is any indication, this should happen automatically within a week. By the way, please only use the actual race name (for example, Elf), not clans, in the race field. I added a category at the bottom to categorize your page as a player River Elf. --ISHARON (talk) 18:13, 7 January 2017 (CST)

On top of those two things, I'm unable to create my own user page. When I click my Username and click create, I am sent to a blank page with nothing on it. The create page shows up fine when clicking any other red link though. Are these bugs? Or are they some of the functions that were broken by the update mentioned? -- DOOMKITTY (talk) 05:42, 3 January 2017 (CST)

Weapon Template Error

The damage template is missing "demolishing." Example: massive kertig maul with gnarled smokewood haft

Damage scale: Appraisal_skill#Weapons

Template Request: Material Properties

Etherian has been working on an Alteration Buddy, and we were thinking it would be extremely helpful for those designing alterations to be able to query for certain "fluff" properties of materials. This would best be accomplished by making a "Material Properties: template with the following fields:

Using - for any field would set the value to none.

 • Material Name: same as page name unless otherwise specified
 • Category: drop-down menu with the following options:
bone/horn‎, fabric‎, flower/plant, gem, leather‎, metal, shell, stone‎, wood, or other
 • Type of: if the material is considered a sub-type, variation, or alloy of another material, such as moonsilver (silver), steelsilk (silk), glacier emerald (emerald), etc.
This should be treated as N/A if blank.

Note: I know there are existing category tags for the above two options. think it would ultimately be better to move the page categorization from the manual category tags to the template. I am happy to do this work once the template is set up.

 • Description: I would move the official description of the material from free text to the template
 • Required for Alterations: drop-down (yes or no)
This should be flagged as unknown if blank.
 • Color: if the material has an inherent or default color, drop-down menu with the following options:
red/pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, neutral (white/black/grey), multicolored, or none (if the material has no inherent color)
 • Gives light: drop-down menu (yes or no). When altering an item, the item cannot give off light unless it is made of a material that gives off light, such as moonsilver. I have found myself searching for materials with this property to match a design.
Because light is a rare property, this value should be presumed no if blank.
 • Race association: drop-down menu with the following options:
none, Dwarf, Elf, Elothean, Gnome, Gor'Tog, Halfling, Human, Kaldar/Gorbesh, Prydaen, Rakash, or S'Kra Mur
Because race associations are rare, this value should be presumed none if blank.
 • Guild association: drop-down menu with the following options:
none, Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Empath, Moon Mage, Necromancer, Paladin, Ranger, Thief, Trader, or Warrior Mage
Because guild associations are rare, this value should be presumed none if blank.
 • God association: drop-down menu with the following options:
none, Chadatru, Rutilor, Botolf, Damaris, Phelim, Dergati, Eluned, Lemicus, Drogor, Everild, Kuniyo, Trothfang, Faenella, Murrula, Idon, Glythtide, Saemaus, Be'ort, Hav'roth, Peri'el, Ushnish, Hodierna, Berengaria, Asketi, Kertigen, Divyaush, Zachriedek, Meraud, Firulf, Kerenhappuch, Tamsine, Albreda, Harawep, Truffenyi, Alamhif, Huldah, Urrem'tier, Eylhaar, Aldauth, Rakash god(s), Prydaen god(s), Alaudian/Gorbesh god(s), Gnomish god(s), or other
Because god associations are rare, this value should be presumed none if blank.

I would adapt the Manual of Style standards for items for use with materials.

Thanks! --ISHARON (talk) 21:58, 26 September 2017 (CDT)

Crafting material pages

So I thought I was making up the BONE item pages the same as how you'd made up the METAL item pages, but now I see you're starting to do re-directs on them to other page names. First off, sorry! Guess I should have just done one and gotten you to look it over first. So, with that in mind, do you want to go ahead and do the first leather item up (right now, looks like Antelope skin), so I have a template to do the other leather items that way too so that you won't have to go back and fiddle them later? Not trying to make more work for you...:) --Kythryn 14:51, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Actually, I'm still testing it, trying to find the way that makes the most sense. Metals and stones are fairly simple, as they always are obvious what they are. Skin and bones isn't always quite so straightforward. I list them in stack form for a couple reasons:
 1. So people can easily match what's in their pack to crafting stats.
 2. Because some skin/bones we can't actually attribute to a specific creature yet or come from multiple creatures.
 3. Because some skin/bones is very oddly named.
 4. Because some similarly named items might end up being very different (Snow Goblin bones might end up different than Elven Pixie Forest and Plains Goblin bones) and so having a Goblin Bone page could cause issues.
That being said, this is a wiki and not my personal little fiefdom, so if you think you have a better way to do it, PLEASE give it a shot. I watch all the changes on the site (or at least try), so even if I disagree and change it, some part of your idea may end up being far better. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 19:01, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
You may not claim the title, but we all know: You're king of the Elanthipedia Kingdom...:).
So, on the stack vs. no-stack thing, I see where you're coming from.
And, we do already have Goblin Bone and Pale Goblin Bone (thanks to Antendren checking a snow goblin question I had) so I do suspect that if the GM's release something from 2 similar creatures, they will give it a separate name. Hopefully. Probably. Maybe.
At the end of the day, I don't really care how we proceed with this, I'm happy to help populate everything. --Kythryn 00:55, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
And because I'm just itching to do something with this tonight it seems, I have been playing around with Caracal-pelt Leather, including the base pelt and made a test table under the COMMON LEATHER section on the Crafting Materials page. Let me know what you think, make changes, etc. Thanks! --Kythryn 03:32, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
Perfect! -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 06:07, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
ugh, sorry I didn't get all those leather crafting supplies finished up yet but I did guilt Anuind into getting me samples of all the remaining common leather skins and have them tanned.

Ugh, looks like some red-links are still on the crafting materials page from the server transfer.

Hib Barbarian shop

Heya! I'm updating some of the Hib stuff, and in the Barbarian guild, there is a door that looks like is Barb-only and it looks to be a shop.

>look door
Polished into the brushed bronze of the door are letters that spell out, "Kvaren's".
It is open.
>go doo
A large hand reaches out from behind the curtain and blocks your entrance.

[Elding Gwilt, Kvaren's] There is little space to move about in this cramped shop.

On the small shelf you see a dented flask, a leather flask, a hammered brass flask, an engraved flask and a wooden flask.

On the stout table you see a bronze paintstick, a cobalt blue paintstick, a leaf-green paintstick, a note, a blood-red paintstick, a purple paintstick, a gold paintstick, a maroon paintstick and a black paintstick.
