Description
Inexplicably connected to its surroundings, the gigantic ur-maeldryth appears utterly at home. Dozens of fleshy, clawed tentacles plated with large midnight-blue scales snake outward from a nexus of chalky black bone. With a tremendously long reach, they thrash about feverishly, the triple-tined claws snapping in every direction.
Recall
Part of what passes for the demon Maelshyve's metaphysical immune system, the ur-maeldryths are only found where her very self has been made vulnerable. The overlapping laws of our Plane of Abiding and the demonic Plane of Exile allow, or perhaps force, these creatures to be fully manifest, in contrast to the wraithlike maeldryths. Much about them remains a mystery, but there is one certainty: Every time an ur-maeldryth dies, so does Maelshyve, bit by bit.
They are known to cast Viscous Solution, Heighten Pain, Soul Bonding, and Hand of Tenemlor.
In Depth
They will adapt to your attacks and spells so you have to keep rotating attack types and spells that you use.
AOE Spells do not have this issue.
Equipment/Loot
Will occasionally drop a purple-speckled dusky blue phenocryst
Messaging
- Spawn: Suppurating detritus and splashes of ichor break away from the surroundings, congealing into an ur-maeldryth.
- Entrance: An ur-maeldryth drifts into view, its tentacles undulating hypnotically.
- Exit: TBD
- Death: With an ur-maeldryth's death, the vicinity looks less substantial.
- Decay: An ur-maeldryth fades, and everything around you fuzzes a little.
- Other: An ur-maeldryth hovers silently, a nightmarish guardian biding its time before laying waste to the invaders.
- Other: Impossibly wide emerald eyes open in an ur-maeldryth's nexus as its dark maw gapes in a gleeful howl. The glowing green orbs vanish, swallowed once more behind the tentacular mass.
Evolving
When you see these messages in monsterbold color, it will be listed as an evolving ur-maeldryth.
After the 3rd message, it will be an evolved ur-maeldryth. They are significantly harder.
New tentacles begin to sprout from the ur-maeldryth's nexus explosively!
More tentacles sprout from the ur-maeldryth's nexus in a frightening burst of growth!
Still more tentacles sprout from the ur-maeldryth's nexus, swarming outward in overwhelming numbers!
