[Notification] Legacy Arcana/Magical Device/Runestone Spell Items · on 09/09/2015 09:30 PM CDT 1259
Since the DR3 project began, many staff members worked hard to update existing items, systems, and other odds and ends of code to the new standards and to bring them inline with new systems.

Many magical devices of old were left in the dust. After a great deal of discussion, it was discovered there were plans to 'retire' many of these items. While some have already been updated, and others COULD be, most of the remaining items will intentionally be left unconverted. For the most part, this will affect items such as "an iheaneu'a shield brooch" and other similar runestone-style magical devices.

What other items are now 'retired?'
The list here is by no means inclusive, but these are examples of some of the items that no longer work.

What does this mean for you?
This means that your item is not bugged, it's simply a legacy item, much like old crafting items. It shouldn't be used anymore and you can look forward to new things showing up in the future with the Enchanting system, the treasure system, and shops.

This also means that the special materials that used to signify a runestone will no longer be locked to just runestones. Likely, new alteration rules will be developed for those materials in time.

Materials that used to be restricted to runestones: avaes, askentine, azurite, calavarite, elbaite, erythrite, hafaltu, imnera, rhodonite, xibaryl, lemicule, zengalmi, iheaneu'a, sraeth, sheelite, axinite, ilmenite, selenite, and celestite.

Simiar materials that are still restricted to specific uses: cambrinth, gaethzen, lantholite, lasmodi, waermodi, jadeite, sjatmal, and albredine.

What if your item was an old quest item and you feel this isn't fair?
If your item was a quest item, please email dr-naohhi@play.net and provide as much information as possible on the item. A review will be done of the item and if deemed possible and necessary, an update will be done to it.

I don't like this change and now a bunch of items I was holding onto are useless.
Useless, but still pretty. There's sentiment in any item! Some of these items (or materials) may become increasingly rare in the future; we never know what the future holds!

When can we expect Enchanting?
I do not have an ETA for this, I can only say it is in the works.

What will happen to runestones?
They're getting a face-lift and you may begin to notice that new runestones are made of many familiar materials. This is only a minor adjustment and the full system of runestone creation will be released with Enchanting.

Runestones have a much broader list of spells now, as well as materials. Currently, the spells that have been approved for our treasure system to make runestones with are as follows: Acid Splash, Air Lash, Arc Light, Athleticism, Bless, Blood Staunching, Calm, Centering, Clear Vision, Compost, Eagle's Cry, Ease Burden, Ethereal Shield, Fire Shards, Gar Zeng, Gauge Flow, Geyser, Glythtide's Gift, Heighten Pain, Heroic Strength, Instinct, Minor Physical Protection (minorphysical), Obfuscation, Protection From Evil (protection), Psychic Shield, Refresh, Rejuvenate, Shadows, Stone Strike, Strange Arrow, Stun Foe, Sure Footing, Telekinetic Throw, Zephyr.

Spells that will no longer be available on runestones:

  • Air Bubble - This spell has too many prerequisites to be considered viable for runestones. Runestone spells should be Intro or Basic only.
  • Soul Bonding - This spell is signature to Clerics.
  • Multiple Ethereal Shields - This spell was moved into an effect for Ethereal Shield.

And materials you're likely to see from treasure system runestones once the changes go live are here:
Scheelite, axinite, ilmenite, selenite, celestite, electrum, agate, alexandrite, beryl, bloodstone, citrine, garnet, jade, jasper, malachite, onyx, quartz, xibaryl, sardonyx, sunstone, topaz, asketine, avaes, azurite, calavarite, elbaite, erythrite, hafaltu, imnera, rhodonite, lemicule, zengalmi, iheaneu'a, and sraeth.
