2024 Elanthia's Regional Ingredients Lore Contest Results · on 08/04/2024 20:17 2083
Thanks go out to everyone who took the time and had the enthusiasm to participate in the 2024 Elanthia's Regional Ingredients Lore Contest! All the submissions were creative and fun!

Congratulations go to Allye (tveiret leaves), Gragnel (rat root), Grenhart (mabafanis pepper), Miskton (baker's cap), Navesi (icemint), and Nawain (motherfruit apple)!

The name and lore of your entries have been adjusted to align better with current DragonRealms lore, but we've endeavored to keep the spirit of the lore submission.

tveiret leaves
Named "octopus" in Asaran in honor of the camouflaging versatility of the octopus, the hues of the tveiret plant are dependent on the mineral content of the clay it grows in and range from deep rusty red to dark green. The plant grows in clumps along the muddy seabed of Segoltha Bay and its large blade-like leaves are traditionally harvested by the Merelew.

Used to wrap around raw fish in Merelew cuisine, tveiret leaves have also been more recently adopted by land-dwellers. Crisp when roasted or dried, the leaves possess distinct rich and savory notes that provide excellent depth of flavor to broths.

rat root
Commonly found in Zoluren, rat root was long thought to be inedible due to its off-putting appearance. The vegetable's outer skin is covered with fine root hairs and looks shockingly similar to a rat's scruffy fur.

Rat root tastes bitter and sharp, similar to a spicy carrot crossed with a radish. Gaining popularity among the less wealthy communities, rat root can be used as a substitute for carrots and other root vegetables like potatoes.

mabafanis pepper
Named "most fiery" in Ilithic, the mabafanis pepper is found along the dry riverbeds of the Hidisharon Desert. The small peppers are similar in size to a blueberry and prized by the Sand Elves for use in cooking.

The brave of heart and tongue choose to eat mabafanis peppers right off of the bush to best savor their immediately sharp and overwhelming heat. Rumors are whispered that certain Sand Elves know the secret for brewing the mabafanis peppers into an ale that causes mild hallucinations.

baker's cap
Found in fields around Forfedhdar, baker's caps were first discovered growing on dead plant matter in failed fields and later found to be worth cultivating on their own. The large mushroom is densely fleshed with a wide cap and starts off white, turning brown as it matures.

With flavors that are reminiscent of bread, the earthy baker's caps are sweet when young, but mellow into savoriness with age. Fully grown, the unique mushrooms can replace bread in a sandwich, while the younger ones are often fried.

icemint
Found high in the mountains of the Himineldar Shel, icemint is a rare and hardy plant that not only survives, but requires the harshest wintry environment. Kaldaran immigrants who settled in Forfedhdar discovered icemint when exploring the highest peaks and quickly adapted it into their cuisine. While bearing the general structure and shape of mint, icemint possesses shimmering, icy veins that highlight its delicate blue-green leaves and jagged icicle-like edges.

When used in cooking or mixology, the icemint leaves often produce a shocking burst of coldness that is accompanied by a powerful minty freshness that typically wants taming.

motherfruit apple
Commonly found in small groves along the Rakash migration path to Siksraja, the "mother" tree is grown from seeds that are fabled to trace their heritage back to the very first apple tree that Enelne gifted to the Rakash. The hybrid apple tree is planted within a ring of diverse apple trees for ideal cross-pollination and is often much larger than its surrounding trees, possessing robust branches and a towering crown of serrated, medium-green leaves. The apples grown from the "mother" tree are named motherfruit and gain a decidedly lavender hue as they ripen.

Motherfruit apples are sweet with a very slightly tart finish and have a semi-firm flesh. They are perfect for snacking and baking, but truly shine as a juice or fratvarit.

Note: While motherfruit grows from "mother" trees, the "mother" tree is still an apple tree, so any product made from its wood would still be labeled as applewood.

The Level 4 RPAs will be set up for the winners and will be automatically delivered by the game system.

Thank you!
