You tap a colorfully illuminated parchment.
A blob of berry-red wax is affixed to the parchment. It is imprinted with a plump strawberry nestled in a crown of delicate leaves. |
[~* Vibrant watercolor strawberries grace the top of the page, depicting a basket overflowing with plump, juicy fruits interspersed with inkpots and feather quills around an unfurled scroll hand-lettered in a playful script: *~] Berries & Ink - Volume 1, Issue 4 [~* Editor's Note *~] Welcome dear readers to another delightful issue of Berries & Ink, jam-packed with all of your favorite creators. His brown hair is straight and short, the ends appearing to be caught in a mild breeze as they scatter across his cheek, half mingling with his elegantly groomed beard. He looks like he is either about to leave on an adventure, in the midst of one, or just returned due to his outfit of a slouched hat, a rugged chestnut-hued shirt, utility belt complete with a multitude of pouches, and heavy pants with leather knee patches. Despite the casual appearing dress, not a speck of dirt or mud is shown, not even on his leather boots. (Last month's portrait: Stelling. Winner: Nilme. Mail in your guess for this month! The winner will be revealed next issue.) [~* The Adventures of Lavacano Gator, Ch. 4 by Crobin Yuanfen *~] Lavacano Gator emerged from the forest with the rescued children in tow, their faces now alight with relief and gratitude. As they neared the village of Dirge, the sun began to rise, casting a warm glow over the quaint settlement. The villagers, alerted by the children's joyful cries, rushed to meet them. News of Lavacano's bravery spread quickly through Dirge, and soon, he found himself surrounded by grateful villagers. They offered him food, shelter, and supplies, eager to show their appreciation. For the first time, Lavacano felt the warmth of acceptance in a community that saw him not as a mere goblin, but as a hero. Eager to continue his journey, Lavacano took only what he needed, refusing to burden the villagers further. He knew his destiny lay beyond Dirge, in the uncharted territories and unexplored lands. With a renewed sense of purpose and the villagers' blessings, Lavacano set his sights on the horizon, ready to embrace whatever adventures awaited him next. [~* Prayer for Travelers on the Svetstaka by Nawain Augtaire *~] Coshivi Great Guardian and Tenemlor who Guards the Blessed, Mrod Above and Eu Beneath, Enelne Life-giver and Demrris Lord of Life, Grant those who prepare to journey back to the land of their forebears your guidance and protection. Show us safely to our destination and back, and let our journey bring healing, restoration, and a renewed sense of connection to our ancestors. Give us the courage to face what remains of the necromantic scourge with unwavering hearts. May our steps be sure as we tread upon soil that was watered so heavily with the blood of our kith and kin. Bless us with the wisdom to honor the memories of those who came before us, and guide our hand as we bring peace to the restless souls that linger. May our return be a beacon of hope and a testament to the enduring spirit of the Great Pack and the Pr'ydaen, even in the haunted places. [~* Framed by tiny clusters of rosebuds tinged in the diluted hues of a sunrise are the words "Morning by Langen Esturi Nilme Iondu'il" *~] On an early Spring morning, I open the curtains. It will be a great day. Of this, I am certain. A cool breeze enters through the open window, How can I be of help to new friends and those I know? The world seems so bright and ready for me, I'm excited to discover the things I will see. Teapot empty, I head into the world Passing wildflowers whose petals are still unfurled. The colors of a brand new sunrise Are, each morning, a lovely surprise. [~* Friend by Ezathiel Karanea *~] As I trod the narrow path Or I walk the narrow road Facing mysteries unknown Walk with me When burdens bear me down And fears worry my heart When concerns do vex my mind Walk with me When my breathing begins to labor From the travel I must bear From start to unfathomable end Walk with me For in your presence my heart is encouraged My spirit becomes threefold uplifted And my courage is doubly strengthened When hand in hand you walk with me [~* A winding dashed line spells "Dantia's Destinations" and ends in a bright red X *~] This summer, fun-seekers can find a delightful respite from their adventures at Willow Pond, just off Apple Blossom Lane in Arthe Dale, where a natural waterslide beckons! Nestled among lush weeping willows, you'll find slick rocks that wind down from a hillside spring, pouring into the shallow pond below. Launch yourself down the chute and plunge into the green waters, letting the cool liquid envelop you. After drying off on the weathered pier that juts over the water, turn your ears to the soothing chorus of crickets and frogs serenading the tranquil village at dusk, or catch a fish or two for the evening's meal. If fatigue calls, sprawl out on the grassy banks and gaze up at the stars - tomorrow, it's time to explore new lands! [~* Seasonal Stargazing with Shaylynne *~] Uthmor the Giant: Did you do the big things suggested in the last issue? Then your proactive choices promise a month with no obligations. Sit back, relax and enjoy your birthday. Arhat the Fire Lion: Blaze a new trail, set off sky blossoms, celebrate the coming of summer. Safety precautions are highly recommended to avoid the heat of a forest fire or city guard, and our publisher is not liable for any damages. Moliko the Balance: Justice may feel anything but balanced this season for the Moliko. Use this time to explore peaceful parts of the world, visit a garden, stop and smell the flowers, and if all else fails you can always blame Opisehk. Skullcleaver the Dwarven Axe: Enjoy some time in the sunshine between winters but don't be lulled into a false sense of security. Remember that your foes don't care what time of year it is and keep your blades and wits sharpened. [~* A stack of delectable-looking tarts are drawn piled against the words "Sweet and Savory by Shaoimhe Bramblebairn"*~] This month, I have the honor of performing for the Arthe Dale Concert and Performing Series, a production by Nilme Iondu'il and some absolutely remarkable performers. It makes me think on how far I've come - from the safety of the meadows, to ringmaster of the Starry-Eyed Tart Circus, to this much more intimidating - er, intimate setting. Just me, a few steps of space, and the audience. Not scary at all! (I assume you believe me.) Have you ever made sure to step out of your ring of comfort? My ring is Twizzle, who's always near, but that doesn't stop me from trying a seawater tart (not good) or facing a crowd. In the end, it feels *good* having tried these! So never worry yourself out of excelling, or failing, because that's where the real fun is. [~* Fashion Alley with Allye: Sensational Seasonal Stylings *~] As meadows bloom and forests awaken, refresh your wardrobe! Nature's palette of floral symbolism inspires us: ~ Embroidered lilies on a linen jacket evoke purity and renewal, ideal for fresh starts. ~ Pair a rosy bodice with a flowing skirt to capture spring's romance. Opt for classic red's passion, or white rose's elegance and innocence. ~ A violet-strewn cloak adds a pop of color, portraying loyalty and devotion. ~ Braid daisies into a crown for innocence and new beginnings. ~ Lush, full peonies denote prosperity and luck, attracting positive energy and compliments. ~ Green jade leaf pendants bring a touch of nature to symbolize harmony and balance. ~ Amethyst lotus rings are a stylish choice for travelers, signifying wisdom and protection. Let each bloom tell your story. May fashion bring you the joy and magic of a blossoming world! [~* Tips for Blunting the Spear by Hanryu Calibanor *~] As you're running around Elanthia, fighting off the most vile creatures of all kinds, don't forget that armor needs regular maintenance. Your local repair shop is always there to help. Of course this is the most dangerous activity you can possibly do! How many grand tales of adventurers cut down in their prime have you heard around the bar that go something like this: "And so she went hunting while all her armor was at Catrox's and that's the last we ever saw of that promising recruit!" So prepare that checklist! - Get armor from repair shop - Wear your armor - Go hunting Remember, checklists save lives. [~* I'm Gonna Miss Me (When I'm Gone) by Cythra Feralclaw *~] You say you heard that I'm leaving But I'm not the kind for retreating I'm gonna miss me when I'm gone They said I'm about to run away But I'll stick around another day I'm gonna miss me when I'm gone I'm gonna miss me When I can't bless me Oh, I'm gonna miss me Because I get me I'm gonna miss me when I'm gone Someday if they give me the boot Or the time comes when I scoot I'm gonna miss me when I'm gone I'm gonna miss me Please don't diss me Oh, I'm gonna miss me Because I get me I'm gonna miss me when I'm gone Some people might wish I'd go But I pretend it just ain't so I'm gonna miss me when I'm gone I'm gonna miss me And reminisce me Oh, I'm gonna miss me Because I is me I'm gonna miss me when I'm gone [~* A twining pair of rose vines, Therengian and Trigomas, encircle the title "Stray Thoughts by Stelling Constalon" *~] How do I find The perfect girl Should I put it in writing? Let me give it a whirl Clearly she'll have midnight black hair Well or maybe fiery red A brunette would surely do Then again maybe blond on her head? Definitely needs to be tanned Though she could be instead quite pale But possibly a bit darker complexion Though now that I'm thinking, maybe fur and a tail! Obviously an Elf, the superior choice Then again, Prydaen are great Rakash could be fun And a human could work as a mate Surely we know she should be a Bard Though maybe a Ranga or Magess Cleric or Paladin could be holy choices A Barb could be an idea courageous What can I say, there are so many potentials A realm full of fun options! That all seem to be viable Do you have some ideas? [~* Snickers in the Dark by Golameth War'Child *~] Drawn in quick strokes, the cartoon depicts a scene of manic chaos set against the backdrop of a dark and twisted forest. In the foreground, a towering human dominates the frame. His head, completely devoid of hair, gleams with an unnatural sheen, while a brilliant aura of vibrant flames licks up his body, reaching nearly twice his height. His face is contorted in grim determination as he chases after a pack of zombies and undead horrors, swinging a fearsome fauchard. Off to the side, nestled amongst the gnarled branches of a skeletal bush, lurks a lone figure cloaked in darkness. Their face, a grotesque mask of twisted features and oozing boils, is contorted in a cruel laugh. [~* Community Commentary by Mother Jaelia Evensong *~] 1. It is time for groups of explorers to gather and launch our ships out to sea! What Sea-Crets might Eluned reveal about the strange Mana-festations, the Merelew, Hallow Eve, Void Cults, Essence of the Depths, the Zoluren Navy leaks and more? What other sea-faring adventures, themes, etc. could we enjoy by gathering together, scrubbing our decks, and sailing into the seas beyond our docks! We only need to seek the adventures and watch our stories unfold. 2. If you do not feel the group known as the Hounds reflect Justice, Rutilor, and/or do not agree with their actions, stop calling them the Hounds of Rutilor! Consider just Hounds, Rabids, Ferals, etc. Names Matter. Stop giving them the authority of an Immortal in their name. [~* Thank you for reading! Look out for more juicy bites next month! *~] |
