Amber is a fossilized tree resin that sometimes contains animal and plant material as inclusions. Amber occurring in coal seams is called resinite. It occurs in a range of different colors from the usual yellow-orange-brown associated with the color amber, to pale lemon yellow, whitish, brown, and almost black. Some uncommon colors include red (sometimes known as cherry amber), green, and blue, which is rare.
Yellow amber is a hard fossil resin from evergreen trees and despite its name, can be translucent, yellow, orange, or brown.
Amber, the traditional River Elf birthstone for children born in the month of Arhat the Fire Lion, is believed by the old wives of the clan to be particularly efficacious in elemental magic, though modern mages tend to laugh at such claims.
