Misdirection
Abbreviation: MIS
Prerequisites: Whispers of the Muse
Signature: No

Mana Type: Elemental Magic
Spell Type: battle / augmentation, debilitation, area of effect
Difficulty: intermediate
Prep (min/max): 10 / 66

Valid Spell Target: Area
Duration (min/max): 2 minutes / 10 minutes

Description: Misdirection is utilized in a manner that is unusual with Bardic magic. Rather than drawing attention to the Bard due to the music, the caster sets to motion tones that sound nothing like music, which can distract nearby foes. Anyone who falls under the influence of this spell, at the time it is cast, may find that these distractions make it difficult to pay attention to all sorts of activities.
Effect: +Stealth skill, -Perception skill, Buff is self only, Debuff is AoE
Example Messaging: You gesture.
A soft, rapid melody builds inside your mind as you create a call and response form around it. You orchestrate the winds to mimic the unnatural sounds of guiled approach, and the earth to make subtle movements -- leaving your own actions far less noticeable.
A mottled westanuryn appears distracted by the phantom events.
A mottled westanuryn appears distracted by the phantom events.

Stealth buff ending:
The delusive tones surrounding you fade away.

Perception debuff ending:
A mottled westanuryn suddenly seems less paranoid.

Contest Type: charm / willpower
Devices/Tattoos: Shifting inkpot, Starry inkpot

Notes

  • Buffs the caster's Stealth skill while debuffing other's Perception skill.
  • Only the debuff is affected by the use of CAST AREA. CAST GROUP has no effect since the buff is self only.
  • The stealth buff lasts from 2-10 minutes, while the perception debuff lasts up to two minutes.
  • The stealth buff is only replaced with a higher strength cast so the spell can be cast as a perception debuff with any amount of mana without worrying about it adversely affecting the strength of a previously cast buff.[1]
