Verbs
- STUDY - Looking at the war hammer, you believe the following are available: CLEAN, APPLY (glue, then ammunition)
- The war hammer relies upon you to apply proper ammunition for lodging.
- LOOK - to check if the weapon has ammunition applied to it for chipping
- (with ammunition) You notice a few <ammunition> on the surface of the hammer, ready to chip away at any time.
- (without ammunition) You notice it lacks fragments on the surface of the hammer.
- CLEAN - (while holding cleaning cloth) You meticulously set to work, cleaning the surface of the war hammer with your cleaning cloth.
- APPLY - (while holding flight glue) You squeeze out a generous glob of the flight glue onto the surface of a polished steel war hammer with a wire-wound oak haft, using the nozzle to spread around the sticky substance for maximum coverage.
How to Add Ammunition
Cleaning
SYNTAX: CLEAN HAMMER WITH CLOTH
Hold the hammer in one hand and either a cleaning cloth or a chamois cloth to clean with in the other hand. Repeatedly clean the hammer until you're confident that the old fragments have been removed.
Messages:
- You meticulously set to work, cleaning the surface of the war hammer with your cleaning cloth.
- You continue to clean the war hammer, focusing your efforts on a stubborn bit of glue still stuck fast.
- Bits of grime dislodge, taking with it tiny fragments of past augmentations.
- The surface of the hammer appears mostly clean.
- You polish the hammer with your cleaning cloth, confident that the old fragments have been removed.
Apply Glue
SYNTAX: APPLY GLUE TO HAMMER
Put away your cloth and get out some flight glue. See Known Issues section about supported glues.
If the hammer has been cleaned thoroughly, and you're using a supported kind of flight glue, then you'll see this:
You squeeze out a generous glob of the flight glue onto the surface of a polished steel war hammer with a wire-wound oak haft, using the nozzle to spread around the sticky substance for maximum coverage.
Otherwise, you see an unsuccessful message of you making a mess:
You squeeze out some of the glue onto the surface of the hammer, but it just makes a mess. Perhaps you should have cleaned it better first.
If you use wood glue from an Engineering Society then you see:
You cannot figure out how to do that. Perhaps finding suitable ingredients and studying some instructions would help.
If you use colored flight glue from Survivalist Supplies then you see:
You squeeze out some of the glue onto the surface of the hammer, but it just makes a bigger mess than what was already there.
Apply Ammunition
SYNTAX: APPLY <AMMUNITION> TO HAMMER
Put away your glue and get out a single piece of ammunition, such as one arrow or one crossbow bolt.
If you have a stack of ammo, use the BREAK command to remove a single piece from the stack. See Known Issues section about the ammo quantity limitation.
A succcessful application of ammunition looks like this:
You carefully fit the boar-tusk arrow into a bit of the glue and press it firmly into place.
If you try to apply a stack of ammo then you see:
You can't add more than one at a time! That'd just be sloppy!
If you try to apply a second piece of ammo to the hammer then you see:
That doesn't match the other ammunition you've already put on.
If no flight glue has been applied to hammer then you see:
You could do that, but it'd be rather pointless seeing as there's no undried glue left on it.
Notes
- This is an old quest item, and it's quirky.
- Per forums, "Tier 4 medium blunt (will teach small blunt in X3). You apply the "shards", it can hold up to 30. Effect happens randomly once every 3 minutes and will lodge 1-5 shards at a time. No weapon damage when effect triggers."
Known Issues
- As of December 9, 2020, this weapon is confirmed buggy with a GM in that only one piece of ammunition (e.g. an arrow) can be applied to the weapon per use. It's supposed to allow up to 30 pieces of ammunition be applied to it and 1-5 of them chip off periodically when you attack in combat. Once that one piece chips away into a critter, then you're able to clean, apply glue, apply one piece of ammo to the hammer again.
- As of December 9, 2020, only Item:flight glue is supported. Wood glue from engineering societies or colored glue from Survivalist Supplies shop near Shard don't work.
