Look: Scrollwork along the wood frame embellishes this unique device, created to help scholars and merchants alike quickly and correctly count goods bought and sold. Consisting of a number of polished wooden beads on wooden dowels, the abacus is partitioned to allow the separation of lesser and greater numbers by sliding the beads from one side to the other. Burned into the wood is some writing.
