Target
Forms a targeting pattern for a targeted spell, optionally choosing a creature, player, body location or area-targeting mode. It can also prepare a spell and begin targeting it in one command.
TARGET <creature/player> (visible caster) You see: You begin to weave mana lines into a target pattern around <target>. Target sees: <Name> begins to focus intently on you! Others see: <Name> begins to focus intently on <target>. TARGET <creature/player> <location> (visible caster) You see: You begin to weave mana lines into a target pattern around <target>, focusing on <his/her/its> <location>. Target sees: <Name> begins to focus intently on you! Others see: <Name> begins to focus intently on <target>. TARGET AREA/ALL You see: You begin to weave mana lines into an all-inclusive targeting pattern centered around yourself. Others see: <Name> begins to focus intently around <himself/herself>. TARGET ENGAGED You see: You begin to weave mana lines into a targeting pattern centered around yourself that is designed to strike the avenues of attack around you. Others see: <Name> begins to focus intently around <himself/herself>. TARGET CREATURES You see: You begin to weave mana lines into a targeting pattern centered around yourself, seeking out anything obviously hostile around you. Others see: <Name> begins to focus intently around <himself/herself>. Single-target pattern completes You see: Your formation of a targeting pattern around <target> has completed.

Syntax

With a prepared spell

• TARGET

Target the creature you are facing. If you are not engaged to anything, you must specify a target.

• TARGET <PLAYER>

Target the named player. A player must be named explicitly.

• TARGET <ORDINAL> <CREATURE>

Target the indicated creature without first facing it. The ordinal is optional.

• TARGET <PLAYER/CREATURE> <LOCATION>

Fine target a body location on the indicated victim.

• TARGET <LOCATION>

Fine target a body location on the creature you are facing.

• TARGET AREA or TARGET ALL

For an area-targeted spell, target everything in the area.

• TARGET CREATURES

For an area-targeted spell, target creatures that are obviously hostile.

• TARGET ENGAGED

For an area-targeted spell, target opponents engaged with you.

• TARGET NONGROUP

For a harmful area-targeted spell, target players outside your group and creatures hostile to you.

• TARGET SUPPORT

For a harmful area-targeted spell, target players and creatures engaged with the last ally you recently SUPPORTed in the same room. If that ally cannot be found, use ENGAGED targeting.

Valid standard locations are the head, right or left eye, neck, right or left arm, right or left hand, chest, abdomen, back, and right or left leg. Some creatures provide additional location names. Some spells cannot be focused on a specific location, and a missing limb or a location too badly damaged to remain targetable can also prevent fine targeting.

Without a prepared spell

• TARGET <SPELL ABBREVIATION>

Prepare the targeted spell at its minimum mana and begin targeting the creature you are facing.

• TARGET <SPELL ABBREVIATION> <MANA AMOUNT>

Prepare the targeted spell at the indicated mana and begin targeting the creature you are facing.

• TARGET <SPELL ABBREVIATION> <MANA AMOUNT> AT <TARGET>

Prepare the targeted spell at the indicated mana and begin targeting the specified creature, player or area option. The mana amount and target may be omitted.

The forms above combine PREPARE and spell targeting. They do not fine target a body location. If no valid target is available, the spell can be prepared without a targeting pattern starting; specify a target or FACE a creature before targeting again.

The TARGET verb allows for targeting magical spells on creature and
 player targets.  You must be preparing a spell in order to target it, and the spell
 must be targetable.  Some spells are prevented from targeting specific body parts.

Syntax:
  TARGET -- will default to the creature you are facing
  TARGET <PLAYER>
  TARGET <CREATURE>
  TARGET <PLAYER/CREATURE> <LOCATION> -- target specific body areas
 on the indicated victim
  TARGET <LOCATION> -- target indicated body area on the target you are facing
  (Valid locations include head, right/left eye, neck, right/left arm, right/left
 hand, chest, abdomen, back, right/left leg.  Some creatures may have other names
 for these locations.)
  TARGET <spell abbreviation> <mana amount> AT <target> -- Prepare a spell and immediately target it.

Usage

TARGET directs a magical targeting pattern; it is distinct from AIM, which aims a loaded ranged weapon. Targeted spells generally have little or no ordinary preparation time, but allowing the targeting pattern to form improves the accuracy of the eventual CAST. The completion message shows when the pattern is fully formed. Casting early uses only the targeting accumulated so far, and some patterns may require full targeting.

Starting a new single-target pattern stops an existing pattern around a different target. A pattern can dissipate if its target leaves, disappears or can no longer be perceived. Once fully formed, concentration lapses after a limited time if the spell is not cast.

For harmful area-targeted spells, omitting an explicit area option uses the default selected with TOGGLE AOE. NONGROUP can be selected as a default; SUPPORT cannot. AREA and ALL are equivalent.

The observer messages above describe a visible caster; hidden or invisible casters can produce different results depending on whether observers detect them.

Target the right arm of the first matching goblin.

• TARGET FS

Prepare Fire Shard at minimum mana and begin targeting the creature currently faced.

• TARGET FS 15 AT GOBLIN

Prepare Fire Shard at 15 mana and begin targeting the first matching goblin.
