Background
Fenvol Ferris learned silence early, finding in written words a steadier company than conversation. That quiet preference deepened into devotion, furthering his studies with the Moon Mage guild and granting him rising status in the Heritage House, where reverence for books matched his own. As his skill grew, his world narrowed to ink, margin, and meaning, and even in adulthood, his affection was measured in shared reading rather than speech.
Fenvol met Indaris in early adulthood, when his world was still small and carefully kept. Where he was reserved, she was effortlessly bright, quick to speak, quicker to laugh, and unafraid to draw him outward. She loved his stories as deeply as he did, but where he consumed them, she shared them, pressing books into his hands and pulling him into conversations he never would have sought on his own. With her, the world felt wider, less daunting, something to be explored rather than avoided.
Following a boating accident, Indaris walked the Starry Road, and her loss shattered Fenvol's fragile world. He withdrew entirely, sealing himself within his personal collection. Years passed in dim light and careful study, his grief transmuting into determination. He began experimenting, not to command magic, but to preserve presence. He sought a way to give his stories a permanence akin to life.
Fenvol's early explorations into illusion magic were delicate things: faintly animated bindings, whispering margins, crude figures shaped from layered scrolls and lacquered covers. They were meant to linger, to fill the hollow quiet. But intention and outcome drifted apart. The enchanted objects took too strongly to their purpose. They did not merely accompany; they guarded.
Over time, the library grew and adapted. Stacks shifted, bookcases moved, and passages formed, randomly connecting different sections of Fenvol's vast collection. The constructs created to be companions and pets grew more willful, less precise reflections of their intended design, shaped as much by their creator's solitude as by his craft. They became territorial, restless, and fiercely protective of every volume, every shelf, every corner of their home.[1]
A decade later, Fenvol is prepared to step back into the world. Time has worn away the sharpest edges of his grief, leaving something quieter in its wake: maybe not acceptance, but a certain willingness to see and be seen once more. He has decided to throw wide the doors of his home, inviting strangers into the private world he crafted in isolation and offering them a glimpse of his creations.[2]
Instead of being lost within Fenvol's manor, where he was metaphorically trapped for so long, visitors are given all the information they need to walk free. Curious travelers, beware! Its magical guardians, born of devastating loss and a love of all things literature, defend it with a ferocious devotion that borders on dangerous, as though they fear what might be lost if the silence is broken. Are you prepared to face the challenges of Fenvol's Folly?[3]

[Fenvol's Folly, Portal Garden]
Slightly overgrown plants spill out of raised beds showing signs of recent repair, with climbing vines already beginning to wander again. A line of smooth stepping stones winds through the greenery toward a modest doorway set into the house beyond. Five freestanding arches rise along the path, each draped in trailing plants and faintly etched script, their frames fitted with hanging lanterns that sway gently overhead. You also see a colorful portal framed by a stone archway and a faint vortex of spiraling text bound in a silver-scribed trellis.
- Portal leads to End Loot suites. Vortex takes you back to the portal you entered from
[Fenvol's Folly, Tidy Foyer]
The receiving hall features a floor laid in patterned stone, bordered by carved woodwork paneling. A sweeping staircase rises along one side, with a ribbon stretched across the lower posts to restrict passage. Gaethzen sconces are mounted on either side of the arched openings leading off in several directions, with a cozy parlor to the east, the master's study to the north, and a well-lit conservatory to the west, while a shadowed arch to the northwest opens to the library antechamber. You also see an iron-banded door with a small viewing hatch and a narrow cast-iron table decorated with tidy scrollwork with several things on it.

[Fenvol's Folly, Library Antechamber]
The elegant space is framed by woodwork traced in fine gold script, the carvings precise and continuous along the edges of the walls. A masterfully painted portrait dominates one side, depicting a young woman with dark curls, bright silver eyes, and a warm, mischievous expression. You also see an intricately sigilated door inlaid with a spiral of copper markings, a carefully printed notecard pinned to the wall beside the butler, a stoic butler in perfectly pressed attire, a copper-scribed bucket of viscous gloop and a list of patients waiting to be seen.
- Choice of event run. Door for library. Statue for Guardian fight. Rope for quick end.
[Fenvol's Folly, Parlor]
The modestly appointed space is arranged in a tidy layout, with an ivory settee positioned against one wall and a distressed sage-colored sideboard on the other, supporting a neatly arranged tray of refreshments. A large riverstone hearth occupies most of the third wall, its roughly hewn mantle arranged with several stacks of hardbound books. You also see a narrow door disguised as a bookcase standing slightly ajar, a traveling healer and a list of patients waiting to be seen.
- Autohealer door leads to incidental exchange.
[Fenvol's Folly, Hidden Stair]
A short, narrow hallway leads to an equally cramped staircase that winds tightly upward. The steps are worn smooth but clean, bordered by plain white walls set close on either side. A single gaethzen lantern hangs in one corner, casting a contained glow that barely lights the space. You also see a narrow door, a copper-scribed bucket of viscous gloop and a tight-faced guard with shifty eyes.
- Guard is incidental exchange
[Fenvol's Folly, Conservatory]
Reinforced glass roofing shelters colorful vegetation as it fills raised planters, interspersed with several den-like pet crates placed among the foliage. A hollowed tree occupies one corner, its interior carved into a cozy nest. Tall windows line the perimeter, framed in sturdy supports and evenly spaced structural ribs, enclosing the room in nearly continuous panes. You also see Menagerie Manager Mayvarin.
- Mayvarin is the collection redeemer
Entry
See this page for portal locations.
In the same rooms as the portals, you can ASK a stern-faced butler in perfectly pressed attire ABOUT TREASURE to enter the quest area.
Overview
Inkbits
The currency for Fenvol's Folly is inkbits. These are non-transferrable, and will be immediately added to your character's MT currency as shown in TICKETS.
Fenvol's Library
Find the correct books that serve as keys to escape from Fenvol's Library! In [Fenvol's Folly, Library Antechamber], TOUCH or GO through an intricately sigilated door inlaid with a spiral of copper markings after redeeming a library card to start the puzzle. On successful completion you will receive 100 inkbits and an incidental reward.
How To
You will enter a 3 room library, and each room has a number of pieces of furniture and containers. You will have 30 minutes to OPEN and LOOK in those containers for different types of books, then when you find the correct ones, you need to TURN them. If you choose the incorrect books 3 times you will be kicked out. You will still get the inkbits, but no incidental.
You can check the TASK command for details on what you need to do, and your remaining time:
Objective: Escape the library by solving Fenvol's favored thinking game and returning to the wider world. How: Ten clues await. Six lead forward four will mislead. Search carefully by OPENing and LOOKing through containers and furnishings nearby. When you are certain, TURN the correct "key" to open the way. Choose wisely, as you are only allowed *three* incorrect selections before being evicted -- making a false TURN consumes one of those three! Be specific, as there may be more than one of a particular book type! Good luck! You have approximately 29 minute(s) and 52 second(s) remaining to complete your task.
In the entry room you will see some stacked notecards. You can read these for clues on what the correct books are, how many you have left to find, and how many errors you can still make.
An example of what the notecards can look like:
" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Among the shelves where whispers dwell, Six scattered lines may ring a bell. Not all are true, and none will tell. Set them aright where sense runs true, And what is sealed will open to you. ...and in the margin... an embossed hunter-green binder is named without reason. ...forgotten steps return when a singed cinnamon folio is held just so. A silent watcher... bound its fate... to a black-edged ocean-blue register. No need to rush... when a checkered orange... reveals itself. Not all who ... will see ... an ink-blotted violet anthology reveals naught. Not everything must be followed... sometimes... a mottled sepia path appears. Read it backwards, or not at all - a mildewed swamp-green tome decides... The warded threshold... yields only when a checkered ebony treatise is... chosen. What seems first... a stained grass-green... may only be first because it was... a distressed crimson... wrong choice... may still ... next... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -"
Once you find correct books, they will be marked off on the list like this:
" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Among the shelves where whispers dwell, Six scattered lines may ring a bell. Not all are true, and none will tell. Set them aright where sense runs true, And what is sealed will open to you. -----FOUND: an embossed hunter-green folder -----FOUND: a silver-gilt straw-yellow digest Certainly... a stained straw-yellow... is the simplest... of winning. No need to rush... when a filigreed midnight-blue... reveals itself. -----FOUND: a deckle-edged hunter-green grimoire Some answers arrive... after others are a charred mint-green... aside... -----FOUND: a dappled wheat-brown bestiary What is ignored... may matter more than what is taken... a gilt-edged cinnamon... -----FOUND: a dog-eared teal volume What was hidden... was never gone... a distressed dark chestnut journal keeps it still. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -"
The correct books are the ones where both the adjective and the noun are provided, while the ones with just adjectives are false clues.
It seems so far that there are two correct books in each room, but more tries will be needed to determine that for sure.
Guardians
Defeat the guardians that protect Fenvol's Folly! In [Fenvol's Folly, Library Antechamber], POKE an inkbound guardian statue after redeeming a library card to start the puzzle. On successfully defeating your foe you will receive 100 inkbits and an incidental reward. If you lose, you will receive only the inkbits.
How To
You will face one of several opponents:
- an inkbound leonine guardian
- an inkbound lupine guardian
- an inkbound strigine guardian
- an inkbound ursine guardian
- ???
They have different appearances, messaging, and natural weapons, but mechanically seem to be pretty similar.
- They have champion mob vitality shielding, so your primary strategy should be to focus your attacks on a vital body part, such as the chest.
- They can cast Refractive Field and Fluoresce. If they cast Refractive Field you will get the message: The unusual coloring catches your eye, and you wonder what might happen if you manage to PINCH the GUARDIAN.
- If you successfully PINCH GUARDIAN while they are visible, it will stop them from becoming invisible again until they recast the spell.
- Each guardian type does seem to have their own special attack:
- The inkbound leonine guardian has an attack where they crouch down, then pounce toward you. On a hit it causes a stun and can drop you to your knees or prone.
- The inkbound lupine guardian has a howl that can stun and drop you to your knees.
- The inkbound strigine guardian has an attack where they leap into the air, then dive toward you. (Not sure what happens if it hits.)
- The inkbound ursine guardian has an attack where they rear back and then swipe a paw at you. (Not sure what happens if it hits.)
You have 30 minutes to defeat the opponent, and can check your progress using TASK:
Objective: Defeat the library's guardian. You have 30 minutes. Completing the task in time awards inkbits as well as an incidental. If you fail to defeat the guardian, you will only receive the inkbits. You have approximately 27 minute(s) and 4 second(s) remaining to complete your task.
Pull the Rope
In [Fenvol's Folly, Library Antechamber] there is a discreet bell rope dangling a small ribbon bookmark.
READ:
A discreet bell rope reads: "Thank you, but no."
You overheard the stoic butler explaining to others that the rope simply summons a librarian who will exchange your redeemed library card(s) for inkbits. [PULL ROPE to use a Fenvol's Folly library card and get the currency instantly, without needing to perform a task. There are no incidentals for this method. Multipliers do work.]
How To
Once you have redeemed a library card, simply pull the rope:
You approach the rope, but pause to consider. [This will consume a library card for the Fenvol's Folly event. If you are sure you wish to proceed, PULL again within 15 seconds.]
And again:
Wanting no part of exploring Fenvol's extensive libraries, you pull the bell rope tucked away in one corner and a soft chime sounds. The nearby stoic butler gestures and a library attendant quickly appears. The library attendant hands you 100 inkbits before returning to his post to watch over the library. You recall you now have <X> inkbits.
You gain 100 inkbits, but no incidental prize.
