A hand held, club-like item used to crush items in a bowl-like mortar, a pestle is a crafting tool used in Alchemy and in preparing certain alchemical ingredients.
See Crafting Tools for details.
Usage
- In alchemy, it is the primary tool for certain recipes (currently only external remedies). It is used by CRUSHing an herb in a mortar with the pestle.
- In alchemy, certain herbs must be crushed before they can be used in recipes. Currently this applies to all internal herbs. This is done by CRUSHing the herb in a mortar with the pestle.
Creation and Repair
Pestles can be created using forging techniques that fall under the Blacksmithing discipline.
Likewise, their repair falls under the same skills, with standard processes for metal tool repair.
Templates
Pestles use material hardness to derive their effectiveness.
(Low carbon steel was used for the durability cap, and high carbon steel was used for speed cap.)
Durability Cap | Speed Cap | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Type | Difficulty | Weight | Durability | Speed | Durability | Speed |
Store Bought | - | 3 | 7 - appreciably susceptible | 4 - very ineffective | ||
<metal> tapered pestle | 5 - Basic | 1 x density | 11 - rather reinforced against damage | 5 - not very effective | 2 - very delicate | 5 - not very effective |
<metal> flat pestle | 07 - Challenging | 1 x density | ?? | ?? | 2 - very delicate | 6 - sort of effective |
<metal> round pestle | 09 - Intricate | 1 x density | ?? | ?? | 3 - quite fragile | 4 - very ineffective |
<metal> grooved pestle | 10 - Difficult | 1 x density | ?? | ?? | ?? | ?? |
Cap indicates the best possible score that can be reached using normal metals. It should be noted that it is not possible to reach both caps in the same item.
