Description: | The Nissa's Binding spell is the only legacy the Empath Guild has of Lanival's companion. When cast, it is guaranteed to put anyone he has a Heart Link with to sleep if they are not standing, but it can be fought off otherwise. The Empath will also fall asleep when this spell is cast, but it is said that the most magically skilled Empaths can resist this, remaining awake and alert.
All bleeding, poison, and disease in the bodies of those under the spell will be slowed significantly. Many Empaths have found that their patients also gradually regain strength while asleep. Still, be careful that those you cast this spell upon do not bleed to death while asleep. | |
Example Messaging: | You gesture. You feel a field goblin fall under the effects of your spell. |
Notes
- Nissa's Binding can affect creatures as well as players.
- You must have an active Heart Link in order for Nissa's Binding to have any effect. NB will affect all targets that you are an actively Heart Linked with, so it can affect multiple creatures or players, or both, at the same time.
- To remain awake when casting Nissa's Binding, you must be able to cast the spell at about 25 mana, which requires a minimum of roughly 250 PM.
Cannot be cast when shocked.
Commentary
Nissa's Binding has given rise to a rat's nest of consent issues. Many players consider casting the spell a belligerant act, and Empaths have suffered both in-character retaliation and Gamemaster-issued Warnings for using the spell on players.
From an Empath's perspective, since Empaths are severely restricted from engaging in violence, Nissa's Binding is the only even moderately effective tool available in a conflict. Contrary to the above statement, it has been GM-endorsed according to policy as a legitimate recourse for Empaths in a consented conflict. The warnings that were issued in the past were the result of GM confusion on the applicability of the spell in conflict situations.
All that being said, however, like any action in the game, under the right circumstances it can give consent as well.
