== Page Naming == |
|||
I'm not so sure naming a page "Manipulate Ability (Empath)" is really needed. When naming pages I like to think of how (likely) will someone search for a page, "Manipulate" sounds much better, and if that is taken, surely you could name it "Manipulate ability" adding text in parenthesis like that usually dictates that the page-title is disambiguated and thus needs a context clue. In this case, I do not know of a Manipulate ability other than for Empaths. Might you be willing to move this (and the few similar) pages? --[[User:Callek|Callek]] 13:17, 3 May 2007 (CDT) |

:I agree the (guild) part is unnecessary in most cases, but that 'ability' should remain. My own take on it is that an article title should be as brief but still '''precise''' as it can be; for common search terms that nonetheless are more vague, redirects can be used. "Manipulate", "Link", "Lead", "Roar", etc. are all still words on their own and the articles are about the ability not the word. IMO for consistency and clarity across the whole wiki, it is much better if article titles make it plain exactly what the article is about. Cf. the 'skill' pages which, admittedly, I created, but they illustrate my point. I was thinking of 'shift' when I put the guild in parens but I agree that should be only as needed. --[[User:Farman|Farman]] 10:33, 4 May 2007 (CDT) |

Farman, the Spell Template needs to exclude Incomplete if it's an Analogous Patterns spell, too. It's beyond my ability to figure out how to tweak the template. Could you take a look, please? --[[User:Diarik|Diarik]] 02:35, 10 May 2008 (CDT) |

While you're in there, Farman, could you also remove the "Guildleader Comments" field? I really don't think it's serving any purpose. ::I'll fix the AG spellbook thing, and yeah guildleader comments is redundant... That info is duplicated in the description and prereq fields. Let's continue this discussion on the [[Template Talk:Spell]] page. --[[User:Farman|Farman]] 09:47, 10 May 2008 (CDT) |

== Templates and Standardization == |

I like what you did with <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:Incomplete]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki>. Next up, Shop at A Glance improvments. Hopefully my future edits won't as badly as my first attempt (I had to rollback the entire thing, BAH!) --[[User:Caraamon|Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi]] 13:38, 19 April 2008 (CDT) |

It occurred to me that standardization seems to be a big issue all accoss subjects. Take a look at [[Style Guide|this]] and see what you think. --[[User:Caraamon|Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi]] 13:55, 19 April 2008 (CDT) |
|||
:Yeah, excellent project, and a huge one to tackle... you've certainly bitten off a lot ;) Standardization is something that I feel strongly about, as uniformity of presentation makes the info a lot easier to use. We already have a vestigial [[Elanthipedia:Manual_of_Style|Manual of Style]] page though. I'm going to move the new one to [[Elanthipedia:Manual of Style/new]] so it can be worked on it there. |
|||
:I also did a little editing to remove the reference to "admin approved". Admins don't have any special rights above other users to '''determine''' what the style should be, I see our role more as facilitators and mediators should any disagreements or other conflicts arise among the community. Naturally, admins are usually users who have demonstrated a high degree of participation in the wiki, but that doesn't exclude other users from participating as fully in any area of content should they choose. I think it's important to maintain a community-focussed approach in a wiki so everyone feels welcome to contribute. To that end I'll also un-protect the page. Also this would be a natural to announce in the [[Elanthipedia:projects|Projects]] page or on one of the [[Elanthipedia:Town Green|Town Green]] sections. --[[User:Farman|Farman]] 14:12, 19 April 2008 (CDT) |

::Well that's odd, I specifically did a search for style and came up with nothing. Oh well. As for protected and such, you're right, I suppose. It just seems like if we don't set down a standard quickly, by the time the argueing has ended, it'll be even more disorganized... -[[User:Caraamon|Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi]] 15:02, 19 April 2008 (CDT) |

Forum Stuff
Hey, I see you copied one of the forum posts over to your sandbox. If you want to use the following page for stuff you think should be moved from Forum posts (Player or GM alike) feel free to utilize the page I just (recently) created: Forum_Posts_Of_Note Might save you a few steps, and will allow others to grab the info and put it up in your place if you're busy doing other things at the time --Callek 23:24, 27 April 2007 (CDT)
- Thanks Callek, that's a useful page. I definitely intend on converting the post into an article given the strength of its content, but I'll add it to the notable posts page too.
