Malachite is an opaque, green banded copper mineral. Except for its vibrant green color, the properties of malachite are similar to those of azurite and aggregates of the two minerals occur frequently. Malachite is more common and is typically associated with copper deposits around limestone.
It can be found as bright-green, dark green, blackish-green, and even very dark to nearly black. It may also be found in colors from green to yellowish green in certain lighting. It has a varied luster from adamantine to vitreous, can be silky if fibrous, or dull to earthy if massive.
