Prized Possessions

  • a battle-worn vardite aegis with a kertig inlay that you are wearing.

Inlaid in kertig on a field of vardite is a depiction of a Dwarven paladin in hulking battle plate kneeling before an ivory-skinned, black haired woman. She is flanked by a pair of onyx jackals, her hands outstretched to the dwarf, who places his heart, made of brilliant heartstone, into her hands in solemn offering. There appears to be something written on it.

A battle-worn vardite aegis reads: "Forever her Paladin"

  • a massive dawnfire steel greatsword with kertig inlays upon the blade

Your greatsword is emanating a powerful sense of holiness.

Dark kertig inlays depict a striking image upon the grey dawnfire steel: a slender, dark-haired woman resting her hand on the heads of a pair of jackals as they stand vigil over a silent graveyard. Mottled pale blue and grey deathfiber is bound tightly around the mikkhalbamar hilt. Its broad kertig crossguard is set with ebon jackal's heart pearls and capped by howling jackals. Trailing from the silversteel pommel is a sungold chain that ends with a mournful jackal carved from a clear dwaglim. There appears to be something written on it.

A massive dawnfire steel greatsword reads: "Unsheathed, so others may know Her peace."

  • a black kertig great helm shaped like a jackal skull with sungold accents

Multiple braids of golden jackal fur interwoven with black and grey deathfiber cascade down the sides of this massive sculpted helm composed of polished black kertig. Two enormous canine ears filled with radiant fur-like sungold filaments stand prominently from the top, and oversized eye sockets loom above an etched snout supporting heavy sungold fangs. The pale blues and greys of the deathfiber accent the dark metal of the helm, while golden jackal fur trims the collar. There appears to be something written on it.

A kertig great helm reads: "~From pink to teal, made with love for love.~"

  • some hulking battle plate with kertig pauldrons resembling howling jackals

Eyes of jackal's heart pearl glint with an ebony sheen from the dark kertig jackal-shaped pauldrons, accented by the blue-grey knarn fur rimming the collar. On the chest a pack of jackals lead a scared little girl into the loving arms of a slender dark haired woman, depicted in an inlay of kertig and uthamar. The mottled pale greys and blues of the deathfiber padding accent the armors sheen, while a long strip of pale grey deathfiber trails from each pauldron, embroidered with an ebon jackal.

  • a deathfiber carryall with jackal hide straps bound with kertig buckles.

Kertig buckles shaped like howling jackals placed along the fabric allow for different configurations of the straps, adjusting where the large container can be worn on one's body. A trio of jackal's heart pearls set in a sungold clasp hold the mottled grey and purple material closed. Crudely cut and worn jackal hide straps bear signs of use in the form of palm-shaped sweat stains darkening the leather.

  • a nacreous jackal icon set within an alcove of starstone

So dark a blue as to appear nearly black, the stone backdrop is spangled with myriad glittering flecks. The pearl jackal set within stands watch over a Dwarven Paladin in hulking battle plate.

  • Luminia

A rose grey horse, purchased from and trained by Kyssandra that is eighteen hands high with a red-tinted medium grey coat. It has a dark grey mane and tail. The mare has a white star-shaped mark surrounding the left eye.

Arkalye Starstone: The Devoted Paladin of Eylhaar

  • Early Life and Tragedy

Arkalye Starston was born on the 24th day of the 7th month of Moliko the Balance in the year of the Emerald Dolphin. He grew up in a rugged mining colony near the Stone Clan, where he was closely bonded with his older brother, Peeku. The family’s stability was shattered when their mother died during childbirth, leaving them in the care of their father. Tragedy struck again with a devastating cave-in that claimed their father’s life. Forced to leave their home, Arkalye and Peeku sought refuge elsewhere.

  • Journey to Crossings

The brothers made their way to Crossings. While Peeku pursued adventures with the Warrior Mages, Arkalye sought solace in the local temple, dedicating himself to helping those afflicted by the ongoing war against Lyras and her minions. Despite his efforts, the relentless suffering and death weighed heavily on him.

  • A Turning Point

Arkalye’s perspective shifted when he met a young Pyrdean cleric working fervently on the battlefield. Her compassion and tireless efforts to save lives amidst the chaos deeply resonated with him. The cleric took Arkalye under her wing, introducing him to the sacred shrine dedicated to Eylhaar and Aldauth. She spoke of the balance between mercy and death, and the grace of Eylhaar, inspiring Arkalye to pursue a path of service.

  • A Vision and a Tragedy

Arkalye aspired to become a cleric, but fate had other plans. The triage where the cleric worked was overrun by Lyras’s forces. Arkalye witnessed the cleric’s death, a sight that left him devastated. Resurrected at the shrine, Arkalye was guided back to the altar by the cleric’s comforting presence. This experience solidified his resolve to become a protector rather than a cleric.

  • Finding Purpose with the Order of the Dragon Shield

Arkalye’s journey took a pivotal turn when he met Kenamer, a human paladin and family friend. Kenamer recognized Arkalye’s potential and his directionless state. He introduced Arkalye to the Order of the Dragon Shield, an esteemed group of adventurers dedicated to protecting the realms and upholding justice. This diverse group of heroes, serving the Baron of Therengia, operated primarily within the city of Riverhaven.

Kenamer, seeing Arkalye’s dedication and potential, welcomed him into the Order. This new alliance provided Arkalye with a broader perspective on adventuring and a deeper sense of purpose. He joined the Order of the Dragon Shield in 439, where he honed his skills and began to make a name for himself.

  • Rise and Achievements

Arkalye’s dedication and valor were evident in his significant contributions. He participated in the Raid on Basalt Isle, helping to activate the Sanyu Aes and fighting against a lich and its forces. His bravery extended to defending Riverhaven from multiple raids by rebels, orcs, goblins, and Stone monsters. One of his most notable achievements was holding the raised drawbridge of the Baron’s keep alongside the empath Karthor. They faced a massive force of orcs alone, buying time for the defenders to rally and protect the city from imminent destruction. This act of heroism cemented his reputation as a formidable and selfless defender.

  • Founding the Jackals of Eylhaar

In 441, Arkalye married Chyral, a gnome paladin known for her love of pink and armor smithing, in a ceremony on the shores of Mirror Lake. The following year, he co-founded the Jackals of Eylhaar with Cote and Schakal. This order was established to honor Eylhaar by spreading her teachings, comforting the bereaved, and combating undeath. The Jackals’ mission included studying the Book of the Void and uncovering Eylhaar’s lore and dogma.

  • Notable Deeds

One of the Jackals’ notable achievements was the Cleansing of Gyfford's Bridge in 442. The bridge, tainted by necromancy, was ritually cleansed by the Jackals, who anointed it with holy water, burned blessed incense, and prayed for Eylhaar’s guidance. Their work, done with humility and dedication, was a testament to their devotion.

  • Legacy and Current Life

Arkalye’s unwavering dedication to Eylhaar and his role as a paladin continued to shape his life. He resides in a manor in Riverhaven with his beloved wife, Chyral. As one of the few paladins devoted to Eylhaar, Arkalye oversees her temple in Kweld Gelvdael, known as the Jackal's Heart. He guards the sacred altar with honor, serving as a beacon of light and inspiration for others.

Arkalye Starston’s life story is a rich tapestry of resilience, faith, and devotion. From his early trials to his current role, his journey reflects a life lived in service to a higher purpose, guided by the principles of mercy, protection, and unwavering commitment to Eylhaar.
