Unity
Requirements: 380 Empathy, 70th
Difficulty: None
Type / Skill: healing / empathy
Description: K'miriel's faces lights up, her lips curving in a smile. "Oh yes, the unity ability is so exciting, is it not? It allows an Empath to powerfully empathize with a patient, to the point that they can instantaneously assume the wounds afflicting him or her. Isn't that lovely? The sensation of togetherness and oneness is quite powerful. I am told that some patients are a bit put off by it, but I think it's delightful. This would could use a bit more togetherness, don't you think?"

K'miriel continues, "The sensation isn't anything new to an Empath, of course. I suppose that may be why some non-Empaths find it so unsettling. To have some idea of what they have all given up, that must be so difficult for them, poor things." Her brow creases with a small, sad frown, before she goes on. "Unity really shines in triage situations, of course. It is the fastest way of healing that we know. Everything really does happen in an instant, and in triage, every instant counts."

The guildleader peers at you then tentatively lays a hand on your forearm. You sense K'miriel stretching her empathic sense along the link you share. The boundary between you begins to erode and you slowly realize that you can feel her body as if it were your own. Abruptly, the boundary between you and K'miriel dissolves completely and for a few dizzying moments you seem to occupy the same flesh. You can feel K'miriel concentrating, drawing your shared pain and suffering toward herself, attempting to imbue you with some of her holistic well being.

K'miriel beams at you and exclaims, "I felt you understanding. Do you see? You should be able to do it. Now go practice!"

Salvur grimaces, a look of distaste twisting his features. He says, "Unity. Ugh. Why I'd want to be one with the likes of you, I really do not know, but there it is. The unity link allows an Empath to powerfully empathize with a patient, to the point that the Empath can instantaneously assume the wounds afflicting that patient. Of course, to do that, you've got to really open yourself to that person, which is not an experience I relish. Not at all. Some patients are rightly put off by the feeling, as well. No one in their right mind would want to feel like one of my fluff-brained students."

Jabbing his cane into the plush carpet, he continues, "That's not just my natural distaste for such things, mind you. It really is a very bewildering experience, especially for a patient who likely has never felt anything quite like that before. And yet, it's the fastest healing we know, even if it is a bit...brutal. When someone's blood supply is painting the walls from a great wound in his neck, one really doesn't have time to quibble about such things, and unity is the fastest, best way to deal with such situations. I have to give the researchers that much."

The guildleader peers at you as if inspecting a medical specimen, then roughly takes your forearm. You sense Salvur stretching his empathic sense along the link you share. The boundary between you begins to erode and you slowly realize that you can feel his body as if it were your own. Abruptly, the boundary between you and Salvur dissolves completely and for a few dizzying moments you seem to occupy the same flesh. You can feel Salvur concentrating, drawing your shared pain and suffering toward himself, attempting to imbue you with some of his holistic well being.

Salvur shudders with distaste and says, "That's how it's done. You should be able to do it. Go practice."

Dagreth says, "The unity ability allows an Empath to powerfully empathize with a patient, to the point that they can instantaneously assume the wounds afflicting him or her. I'm told the experience can be pretty disorienting for the patient, unused as most are to that sort of thing. And the unity link truly is instantaneous -- that's part of why it can be so bewildering, I suppose."

Dagreth continues, "The experience of unity is one of the only ways a non-Empath can feel a glimpse of what it's truly like to be an Empath. You've had a while to gradually get used to the experience, but a non-Empath doesn't doesn't have the benefit of that. I'm told some patients refuse to be a part of the unity link, preferring instead to rely on the older, slower methods. Unity really shines in battlefield situations, though, and if someone's blood supply is dropping right out of their body due to massive trauma, there really isn't time to quibble." Dagreth raises his eyebrows and shrugs.

The guildleader peers at you then gruffly takes hold of your forearm. You sense Dagreth stretching his empathic sense along the link you share. The boundary between you begins to erode and you slowly realize that you can feel his body as if it were your own. Abruptly, the boundary between you and Dagreth dissolves completely and for a few dizzying moments you seem to occupy the same flesh. You can feel Dagreth concentrating, drawing your shared pain and suffering toward himself, attempting to imbue you with some of his holistic well being.

Dagreth nods gruffly at you and says, "See how it's done? Good. Now go practice."

Effect: +No buffs, -No debuffs, Wound heal, Heals all wounds on one target.
Messaging: Stretching your senses along the link with <patient>, you slowly lose the boundary between <him/her> and yourself, until you feel his body as if it were your own. Your empathic senses stretch out, forming a link so intense that your breathing slows almost to a stop. Abruptly, the boundary between you and <patient> dissolves completely, and for a few dizzying moments you seem to occupy the same flesh. You concentrate, drawing your shared pain and suffering toward yourself, attempting to imbue <patient> with some of your holistic well being.

Your nerves sing with pain as you draw <patient>'s wounds from <his/her> body into your own.

The feeling of unity with <patient> gradually ebbs away.
