Shaping and Lumberjacking Released in Prime · on 06/13/2015 09:21 AM CDT 59
Hello everyone. Today I will be slowly deploying the new Shaping and Lumberjacking systems to Prime.

The release involves many parts, so it will be a few hours before everything is up and running. In the meantime you may notice a few things acting funny with foraging, combat, other crafting systems and so on. I'll be working hard to address them as they come up.

Shaping is a crafting Discipline under the Engineering skill. It works much like the systems before it, with instruction books, tools and resources sold at the Engineering Societies. My hope is the chapters in the book explain much of the process and syntax along the way.

A few things to note -

Stick Bows were rewritten and now have a draw strength modifier. Old bows will continue to have whatever load/fire RTs they had before. New bows will have a draw strength that modifies the chance of getting a higher or lower RT than normal. There is an enhancement to further modify this.

A bow's power rating is now directly tied to its damage modifier. Faster bows do less damage and vice versa. Balance is now a larger factor in hitting, fumbling, recovering, etc. We spent several weeks balancing it in DRT, but I am sure further tweaking will be required. Note that old bows may have a reduced damage capability, much like old weapons shortly after Forging went live.

Bows can take damage and must be repaired with the draw brush. I'm contemplating changing this to use sealing wax or something more realistic in the future. Arrows also have durability, and a slight chance to break when shot. This does not apply to quads or sling ammo yet.

Festival/Auction bows will be improved once I've located them all.

Wood is now under the new material system. This only applies to newly created wood obtained with foraging and lumberjacking. Old wood will continue to exist, but is likely less useful now.

Bead shaping and talisman carving should be unchanged. Bead shaping will work with the new woods. Talisman carving will continue to work with the old woods obtained on the WM quest.

Lumberjacking works very similar to mining. You'll need to be holding an axe and in a room setup for lumberjacking, and can CHOP TREE to try for wood. WATCH is the verb for observing what can be harvested, look for danger and so on.

Over the next few weeks I'll be adding additional Shaping templates for players to craft. Feel free to suggest new items, bring up concerns or report bugs in the Shaping forums.

Many folks have been updating Elanthipedia with specific details on the new systems. Please check there if something isn't making sense.

Thank you!
