An artifact that was in the sewers of Crossing near a tapestry dedicated to Faenella. The Lute, as opposed to a lute, was an instrument of power possessed by both Faenella and Peri'el, among others. The Lute was used to keep in contact with the Bardess Wren after her kidnapping by the Gorbesh. It was held in a room of the Crossing sewers, which was sanctified by Faenella shortly before the Gorbesh siege of the city.

The Lute was protected by several people working in shifts and inspired the song, Defenders of the Lute as well as the book A Time To Remember by Daerlynn Soulmyste.

Long after the initial defense, the Lute was stolen by Ponlahk and Leynar. The current location of The Lute is unknown.

Description of where the Lute was kept

[Cavity]
Clean sand carpets the floor of a cavity burrowing deep into the rock of the cavern. Worn tapestries of bright colors and simple patterns cover most of the wall space though an old desk sits patiently beneath one particularly fine specimen. Shadowed by an oak music stand, a delicate lute leans against the opposite wall as if its mistress might return at any moment to snatch it up again. You also see a rubble mound.

The Lute

Tendrils of rock have reached across the neck of the lute, cradling it gently. The lute, its wood darkened with use, is strangely free of dust and grime as if protected from the normal passage of time.

The Desk

Covered with a fine layer of dust and its top scarred and nicked with use, the desk is oddly barren of any personal items.

The Tapestry

Crafted with obvious talent and skill, the tapestry depicts Faenella on a field of jade clasping an ebonwood harp. Lying at her feet is the crumpled form of the Dragon Priestess Dzree and at her left stands Neithrel Silverfrost, iron chains still dangling from his wrists. Above their heads flies a large wren carrying a scroll in its beak.
