Description

Like all of the Adan'f race, the mage vaguely resembles a large lizard, complete with reddish-black scales and forked tongue. Slitted golden eyes are set deeply into its narrow skull, over triple rows of gleaming pointed teeth. A long, sinuous neck leads down to a slender, almost frail, body. Its delicate tail is tipped with one gleaming talon, though the tail appears too weak to use as a weapon. The mage wears a long hooded cloak of deep black cloth, its surface lumpy with concealed items. One of its three-fingered hands holds an oak staff topped with a jackal's skull.

Special Attacks

Casts Dinazen Olkar and Mental Blast.

In Depth

Shield skill is highly recommended, specifically a medium as you will be attacked with both targeted magic and melee. 40 discipline seems to be the range required to shrug off the Mental Blast.

With 350 evasion and similar in shield... almost never get hit with DO.

9/27/2015

- 37 disc, 45 int, 45 wis - easily shrug off MBs.

- DO easy to avoid or reduce to light damage with only 280 shield (25% stance) / 280 evasion (60% stance).

- Tactics / weapons significantly slower after 360.

8/30/2022

- 40 disc, 30 int, 40 wis is enough to shrug off the MBs. I'd wager even just 40 disc is enough as it's the primary stat in that defensive contest. Also, Lay Ward works well against their magic and doesn't require a warding slot.

10/14/2022

-222 Armworn small shield as an armor tert and 63% shield stance enough to almost never get hit by spells, minor abrasions on the few that sneak through. Warmie with Mantle of Flame, Swirling Winds, YS, and GI easily handle 4. 250 evasion, 222 shield, 233 parry, 223 chain, 242 defending. 80/63/40 stance. Only light hits, but running eddy as well. Seem doable though might need magic to up kill speed, reasonable defenses. Appraise care at -2 with these stats for difficulty, 43 ref before buffs.

Hunting Info

  • Body Type: Biped
  • Hard Cap weapons and hiding at 420
  • Hard Cap perception from HUNT at 530
  • 12/25/2019 Empathy soft caps at 530, 11/34 maximum at 535.

Equipment/Loot

The staff cannot be picked up.

Will occasionally drop a fetid antelope vellum, containing the Shadow Web spell.

Death and items

Adan'f mages will, on occasion, pick up the fallen weapon of the recently deceased and put it into their cloak. If subject to graverobbing mechanics, the mage will not despawn or leave the room while the corpse remains, and will fall dead on it's own after a few minutes. Items they pick up can be found inside their black cloaks after they have been looted. They will also stash boxes, shields, and some other items but will ignore bonded/registered items or mining materials.
