'''MAIL INFO:''' The MAIL verb allows players to interact with the mail system to send and receive packages throughout Elanthia. The local post offices are run by the Rundmolens -- the Dwarven family known for operating the Carousels (vaults). As is their style, they only operate with Kronars. For these new postal operations, they also only dispatch runners to your Zoluren banks they will not accept coins you're carrying at this time.
The very basics: You can PUT the item you want to mail in an envelope or package, sold by the local post offices, close it, and MAIL SEND {NAME} to send the package to the target. You MUST spell the name exactly -- it doesn't check if they're online or even if they have an active subscription. If you send a package to someone you didn't intend to, or if the recipient fails to pick up their delivery, you can MAIL RETRIEVE it to get your items back. You can check the status of the packages you've sent via MAIL STATUS.
You can LOOK at and STUDY many of the items used in the mail system to gain additional information.
Fees: There's a fee for sending items. The are several factors that determine the final fee. First, the type of package you're sending, whether an envelope or a package, has a base rate associated with it. Additionally, all packages require a stamp to determine the class/speed of delivery -- you can either provide your own via the stampbooks, or the post office will happily add one for an increased fee. The weight of all items inside the parcel being shipped increases the price, and this amount is modified by the stamp's class -- higher priority is a higher modifier. The MAIL ESTIMATE tool can give you an idea of the fees you're looking at for a given package or individual item.
If you send a package with the COD option (payment on delivery), the receiver can choose to pay the fee you set to collect the package or reject it which will return the package to you. The post office takes 2% of the amount.
Items: Many of the items used by mail can either be customized by other items or provide such customizations. This is a brief overview of the items: * Packages and envelopes -- all items sent through the MAIL system must be PUT into one of these. The envelopes are suited to carrying letters or other very small items -- they only hold a single item. They also have cheaper base fees when mailing. Packages are larger, nearly backpack sized, and can hold up to 9 items at a time and have a higher cost. * Parchment -- you can WRITE letters with these parchments. The language you are speaking when you write the first entry will be the language the letter is written in, so take care! Don't send your Gnome friends something written in Ilithic! STUDY has more information. You will need a quill or similar writing item while writing away from the post office. * Quills -- Primarily these allow you to WRITE your letters while away from the post office if you do not already have such an item. They have a few fluff verbs. * Wax and signets -- These go together. If you PUT wax ON a package, envelope or parchment while wearing a signet, you can mark the item with the wax's color and the symbol on the signet ring. * Stamps determine the speed (priority, class) that a package is delivered. Standard deliveries take 1 hour, express takes 20 minutes, and first class is delivered instantly. * Stampbooks contain 20 of a particular class of stamp and are available at your local post office. You can PULL an individual stamp from a stampbook to PUT on a package or envelope. A parcel may only have a single stamp at a time -- adding others will overwrite what was there.
Additional Info: * You can toggle MAIL DND to block all mail from everyone and resume when ready. * Your mailbox allows for 25 incoming parcels at a time. Others will no longer be able to send you mail until you clear some out! * There is a limit to how many outgoing parcels you can have at a time as well. Please do not spam unnecessary mail! * Repeating to stress it -- when sending mail, type the name exactly as it is! If a character exists with the name you typed, whether active or not, the package will be sent to them. Do not shorten "Lyneya" to "Lyn" and expect Lyneya to get your package. * Related, you can use MAIL RETRIEVE to recall mis-sent parcels. You will not be refunded any fees.
'''MAIL SEND <player> <priority>:'''
The mail clerk takes a thick burlap-covered package from you.
