I actually like the niche of armor secondary using brig - but let's be real, there's only Rangers, Traders and Barbarians and two out of those three have traditionally been leather wearing classes and the last one isn't a "real combat guild" yet. Future projects and whatnot. For what it's worth when I wrote Skein of Shadows for Rangers it's notably better at reducing the stealth penalty at heavier armors than Khri... whatever it is, for exactly that reason.
