[The Heraldry Shop]
A palette of smells greets patrons of the Heraldry Shop as mineral spirits, turpentine, and linseed oil compete for olfactory attention. But Bonime, the artist, allows no visual clutter: rows of paints and solvents, pots of brushes, and sketches on scraps of paper all occupy orderly places on walls and workbenches. A leather-bound catalog rests on a plain plank counter at the front of the shop. You also see a shield rack with some stuff on it and Bonime.
Obvious exits: north (to Blazons and Banners).

HOW TO DESIGN A CREST FOR YOUR SHIELD

1 Hold the shield to be painted in your right hand and CHECK. (If your shield has both a look and a tap description, you will not be able to have it painted.)
2 Choose a charge from page 1, 3, or 4, and CHOOSE CHARGE (NUMBER)
3 If you've selected a beast from page 1, you can pick one of the stances on page 2. To do this, just CHOOSE STANCE (NUMBER)
4 Pick a tincture for your charge from those listed on page 5. To do this, just CHOOSE COLOR (NUMBER)
5 You can have up to nine charges in your crest (for example, "three coins" or "seven foxes". Just CHOOSE AMOUNT (1 to 9)
6 Pick a tincture for the field or background of your crest from the list on page 5. Then CHOOSE FIELD (NUMBER)
If you're pleased with the design at this point, just GIVE BONIME and you will be given a claim ticket for your shield.

The charge you select for your shield may be blazoned in one of the following stances:

1 Affronte: the beast looks squarely out of the shield.
2 Combatant: two rampant beasts facing each other.
3 Couchant: crouching, with the head up.
4 Courant: running like a greyhound.
5 Dormant: lying down in a sleeping position.
6 Passant: walking, with head forward and a forepaw raised.
7 Rampant: rearing on one hind leg, with three paws raised.
8 Sajant: seated on its haunches.
9 Salient: leaping in the air.
10 Statant: standing on all legs.

Obviously, charges like birds that lack paws cannot be shown as passant or rampant.
