Description: Failure of the Forge is an unusual warding pattern which allows the magician to cloak themself in an aura of aural dissonance. If an attack lands against the spellcaster, the dissonance lashes out, imbuing any weapon in the attacker's hands with distracting harmonics. In effect, this makes the weapons temporarily less suited for combat, though the discerning magician should beware that this magical counter-attack does nothing to cushion them against the initial blow.
Effect: Token amount of damage reduction. Debuffs weapons held by aggressors.
Example Messaging: Cast:
A dissonant chord echoes through the area as a distorted shimmer briefly flows around you.

Debuff application:
3rd person: A Dragon Priest zealot's lata'oloh is caught by your aural assault, imbuing it with imbalancing harmonics.
1st person: Your lance is caught by a sweeping arc of sound, causing it to vibrate uncomfortably in your hand.

Damage reduction:
With a vengeful crescendo, sonic forces lash out in defense!

Spell ending:
You hear, more than feel, the Failure of the Forge pattern wind down and lose cohesion.

Devices/Tattoos: No devices or tattoos documented.

  • Any weapon held by the aggressor (whether or not it was actually used in the assault) will be debuffed for a short time, similar in concept to the Cleric spell Curse of Zachriedek.
  • The debuff will trigger on any strike that is at least glancing.
  • Debuffs all 3 physical damage types of a weapon.
  • The debuff does not work on natural attacks from critters or brawling attacks from players and the weapon attack that triggers the debuff effect does not receive any benefit from the debuff.
  • The effect cannot be triggered again on the same target until it has worn off completely from that target. There is no messaging to indicate when the debuff has worn off.
  • Provides a very small amount of always on damage reduction to the caster independent of the debuff effect.
